The Devil Doctor's Spicy Love -
Chapter 255: Fragile (1)
Chapter 255: Fragile (1)
Jia knitted her brows. She turned to face him and folded her arms. His devilish charm would have made a woman drop dead at his sight but not Jia.
"You are not a normal man, so I am curious what dirty talk means to you. The usual meaning doesn’t apply in your case."
"Dirty, naughty and sexy ooze out of every cell of my body. I fail to see why you fail to see it," he grimaced in displeasure.
"You stopped me so you could make this point?"
He smiled. He inched closer, gently pushing her chest with his until her back bumped on the door. His hands slid closer to her head on both sides, leaning his face just inches away from her.
Jia had to admit that his beauty was a sight to behold. She would die rather than confessing it to him and stroke his already inflated ego.
"I stopped you..." his whisper of a voice was only audible to her, "because my patient is in trouble."
"I am not your patient anymore."
"I saved your heart."
"And if I remember correctly, I got discharged two years back," she reminded him.
He slightly lifted her chin up, his finger brushing against her skin with a tingle as his eyes twinkled. "But I will always be your doctor."
Jia raised her brow at this tempting gesture. Normally, she would have already thrown her lethal jab of a kick at him but she remained patient.
"Where is the form to apply for a change of doctor?"
He chuckled. "Nowhere. Even if there was one, I will burn it and disperse the ashes into oblivion~"
"So I am stuck with you for the rest of my life?"
"The other option of unsticking never existed in the first place. So I am the only doctor you will ever have and get. And as your doctor, I understand that my dear Spicy is in trouble. Grave trouble."
She frowned. "What trouble? Also, do you have to be so close?"
"Distance from you kills me, Spicy."
Jia shook her head. "I have to get to work, Mingshen. We don’t have time for this."
Mingshen stared at her. "You cannot work till your judgment is compromised."
She blinked rapidly. "Sorry? How is my judgment compromised? I can think and decide just fine."
"You are sick."
Jia was taken aback. "No, I am not. I am standing right in front of you."
"You are right in front of me which is why I know. You are sick. Your mind is sick."
"Ugh, what are you even talking about? Is this about the bags under my eyes? Yes, I couldn’t sleep well last night but you, of everybody, should know the reason."
"You aren’t sleeping well for many nights. It’s not just one. It’s not even the first one."
She stiffened. But she quickly calmed down. "A cop’s job is difficult. Cases keep us awake many times. Ask Huojin."
"He is fine. I don’t need his answers," he said with a slight sharpness to his voice. "I want yours."
"Like I said, a cop’s job is stressful."
Mingshen’s eyes narrowed. "That is not the same stress that is making you eat a lot of cheese."
Jia almost got a heart attack.
Does he know I ordered a cheese pizza and burger last night? That’s not possible...
"Eating cheese is a cause of concern now?"
"Eating cheese when you weren’t so into it before is a cause of concern. I saw a lot of cheese products in your fridge when I came over to your house that evening. You ordered two cheese pizzas the day we were out shopping."
"So?"
He smiled faintly. "It’s nice that you have a sister. Otherwise I would have never known from little chili that you weren’t always a fan of cheese-based products. You hardly used to eat it. You hardly used to eat junk food at all."
Her brow slightly twitched. "People’s taste can change. What is the point of this conversation anyway?"
He tilted his head. "High fats and calorie foods are often considered as comfort foods. Do you know what comfort foods are known for?"
Somehow, Jia had a premonition that she wasn’t going to like the answer.
"They provide comfort to people experiencing depression."
Her eyelashes faintly trembled but she managed to stand her ground. Yet a sinking feeling clutched her chest.
"Cheese and other tasty food stimulates dopamine release. We all know what that is, right? You must have heard it during your drug cases."
She slightly gritted her teeth. "You...you are impossible. Just because I am eating some cheese, you are labeling me as an addict?"
"No," Mingshen raised his brow. "You are not an addict in the traditional way. You are not doing substance abuse. But you are eating a lot of junk food as your coping mechanism from anxiety."
Jia’s breaths began to turn slightly ragged.
"You ordered a cheese pizza and a burger last night."
She froze. "What the hell...You are stalk-"
He cut her off. "I wanted to confirm my diagnosis. You got rattled after talking to that oldie neighbor of yours, similar to what happened at the mall. You thought you screwed up and you unnecessarily blamed yourself for it. So I waited outside your apartment complex. If what I thought was right, then I knew you were going to order junk food in the middle of the night. I just wanted to see it with my own eyes."
Jia turned to leave, but Mingshen didn’t let her.
"This conversation ends here," she said with a quivering voice.
"The stress eating began two years ago, right? What happened two years ago?"
"Nothing happened," her hands started to tremble.
Mingshen stared at her.
"You learned about your parents’ truth and betrayal two years ago. The sweet bubble which you lived in suddenly burst one day and you crashed so hard that till date, you are trying to prove yourself as that cop which your parents weren’t. You never recovered from that crash landing. There are bruises everywhere. That’s why you are sick, Jia. You need help."
