Chapter 225: Shopping with the devil (1)

"Wait, what?" Jia felt a buzz in her head.

"Follow me~" He passed by her, whistling merrily.

Jia snapped out of her stupor and quickly chased after him. "What did you mean by cash cow? I cannot let you pay for my dress."

But Mingshen was looking around in joy, completely ignoring her. He found the section he was looking for and grinned. "Yup that way~"

"Mingshen...!"

He stood before the attendant and said, "Show me your latest collection."

"Yes, sir!"

The attendant was super happy. A rich customer equated to good sales and profits. She eagerly displayed the latest and eloquent collection on the glass table and flashed her usual sales smile.

"You have just come at the right time, Sir. We just got a fresh batch of the designer’s latest collections!"

Jia stared at the dresses in horror. She didn’t even have to see their price tags to guess their cost. There were five different dresses laid out, each a varied, rich color and exquisite design.

Mingshen smiled. "Which one do you want to try first?"

Jia grabbed his arm and pulled him aside urgently. "I am not trying on any of the dresses! I will visit some other shop-"

His brows furrowed. "Why not? I am rich."

Her brow twitched heavily. "...I am quite aware of that."

"Then what is the point of concern here?"

"I won’t be able to pay you back."

Mingshen waved his hand in dismissal. "You don’t have to pay me back."

Then he smirked at her.

"Of course, I have to pay you. I cannot let you buy me such an expensive dress and just accept it as if it has nothing to do with me."

"The payment has got nothing to do with you. Of course I will pay for it. I know you know."

Then he smirked very proudly again.

Since previously, Jia didn’t understand his intentions of returning her police badge as a gesture of his gratitude, splurging on the dress for her was another way to show the same thing. Mingshen was sure that this time, Jia would understand his message.

She didn’t.

"What do I know? And why are you smirking?" Jia was confused.

"Because you know why I am doing this~"

"...No?"

He scoffed. "Of course, you do. Spicy is smart, so let’s not waste time."

He went back and grabbed three dresses he liked on the face value. He dumped the dresses in her hands and asked the attendant, "Where is the trial room?"

"Walk straight and then a small right," she chirped.

Mingshen looked back at Jia. "You heard her."

Jia’s eyes popped at the dresses. She tried to turn a price tag but he slapped her hand away. "Trial room. Right now."

He didn’t give her any chance to speak and pushed her against her protest towards the trial room.

"There is no way-"

"We are not leaving until you try the dresses, so get going."

There was a seating area in front of the trial room and Mingshen sat handsomely, crossing his legs with his arms stretched on either side of the couch.

Fine, it’s just trying. I will say that I didn’t like any dress, Jia consoled herself.

"You have to show me each trial."

Jia was speechless. "Why?"

"To choose the best dress obviously," Mingshen smiled. "It doesn’t seem like you would be able to make a sound choice."

"..."

Jia gritted her teeth and locked herself in the trial room. She finally saw all the price tags and closed her eyes.

Why would anybody spend so exorbitantly on dresses...?

Mingshen was chilling outside, extremely pleased with his smart idea. It was a well known fact by now that he wasn’t used to spending money other than for his own needs. Definitely not for others.

So with this dress, it would be quite clear to Jia about Mingshen’s intentions, who was otherwise a money grubber.

A minute later, Jia stepped outside, wearing the first lavender shade dress. She awkwardly shifted her weight from the left to right foot and back again.

Mingshen touched his chin as he scrutinized her.

"T-This is not really my type, so I will quickly try on the other-"

"You are not deciding it anyway, so relax."

She scowled.

"Lavender is good but I want a more bold color. Try the other ones."

"Like I said-"

"I am waiting."

Damn it!

Jia went back and got out with another dress. This time, it was bottle green with long sleeves.

"Much better. But the X factor is missing," he nodded.

Jia was stumped.

These are already such lavish and amazing dresses. What more X factors are you looking for?

Mingshen called the attendant for bringing more choices which she happily obliged to. She brought more dresses out of stock which she shoved into Jia’s hands with a bright smile.

That smile was too blinding for Jia.

"...I have to try so many dresses?"

"Otherwise, how will I understand which one looks the best on you?" He frowned at her obliviousness.

"These are too much."

"How much do you usually try on when you are out shopping?"

"Two or three?"

"Noob," he sneered in disdain.

"..."

Her gaze darkened. "That is normal."

"That is way too little. You haven’t seen my Mom. You don’t pamper yourself at all. So I am doing it for you."

The attendant covered her blushing face and gushed with all her heart. "Mam, your boyfriend is so romantic!!"

Jia felt like lightning struck her. "H-He is not my boyfriend!"

"You don’t have to feel shy, mam. He is a keeper. Pampering boyfriends are hard to find like high quality pearls these days," she sighed.

Her brow twitched. Jia dragged her feet back in the trial room and after a number of dresses which felt like forever, she was exhausted.

Mingshen looked up from the magazine he was scrolling through as Jia exited once again. His brow arched slowly as she donned a beautiful knee-length dress that slightly glistened in the light but wasn’t gaudy at all.

"This is what I was looking for. Perfection."

Jia looked down at her dress and back at him. "Isn’t this quite a bold shade?"

His eyes sparkled. "Blood red. Suits you perfectly. A bold color for a bold woman. Yes, it’s decided. We are buying this dress."
