Meng Rin thanked them for their evening and took her leave after dinner was over.

Jia gave a side glance to Mingshen. "How come you never talk about intelligent stuff when you are with me?"

He blinked. "What do you mean?"

"I mean I appreciate the way you took a stand on the industry’s toxicity and sexist nature. Everybody needs to hear that and everybody needs to do something about it. But when we are together, you only manage to push the wrong buttons," she sneered.

Mingshen’s eyes lit up with a dark smile. "Is that what seduces you, Spicy~?"

"At least I get to know that you can talk sensible things at times," her eyes narrowed. "Why did you ask her about the drinks?"

Mingshen whistled secretively.

Jia said after a moment’s pause, "You think something was mixed in it?"

"Nothing can be kept a secret from you for much longer," he sighed dramatically. "But that’s how you always take my breath away~"

"Is it a yes or no?"

"To be your boyfriend?"

Her gaze went cold.

He chuckled sneakily. "I heard it twice in the conversations that that director wasn’t someone who got drunk so easily. It tipped me off that a person with a high tolerance can become dead intoxicated to that extent with a few drinks."

It is a valid point, Jia thought.

"That’s why I wanted to know the blood test and gut results. But they didn’t do it," Mingshen scoffed with disdain. "So I, the great Yang Mingshen, told that grey haired cop but he ignored me. They are only bothered to check the respiratory tract and airways. The cause of death is asphyxia after all. Very ballsy for a person who isn’t even a doctor," his black eyes gleamed alarmingly.

She let out a sigh. "I will talk to Supervisor Lei about it and convince him. But don’t you bring more trouble, got it?"

He frowned. "There is no fun in that."

She shot him a deadly glare. "Go back to your lab to have the fun you want, not at crime sites."

She left the dinner table to head back to her room. Mingshen lazily stretched his arms. "The night is still so young~"

The night was young so Mingshen headed to the pool side. But the lights were off, so it was quite dark to look around.

"Apparently, the night is not so young," he looked at the time where it was already past 10 PM.

He stood at the pool’s edge with his hands in his coat’s pockets, staring down at the dark water. From a distant place, he heard some murmurs and his ears perked up. Curious, he walked towards the source of it.

"You may think you have won, but you have only delayed the inevitable. My influence is far-reaching and the world will soon tremble at my feet."

Mingshen arched his brow as he saw a figure facing the garden side. He wore a black coat that fluttered ominously in the wind.

He smiled. "Oh my what sinister thing are you plotting to make the world tremble at your feet? World domination?"

He walked closer at the same time as Bai Caishen turned his head towards him. The dim lights that fell upon him gave an impending chill in the air. His black eyes watched Mingshen carefully.

"World domination seems an amusing idea, don’t you think?"

Mingshen chuckled. "True. It would feel entertaining to rule over dumb pawns who will do anything for you."

He smiled. "More than ruling over them, it’s the process of turning them into pawns that is so exhilarating. You watch them fall for your deception slowly and steadily."

"Process can be enjoyed as much as the result~"

Mingshen then squinted his gaze. "You are not someone to be trifled with, are you?"

"Not by a long mile. I appreciate people’s cognizance who know to back off rather than mess with me."

"I guess we can become good friends," Mingshen laughed.

Bai Caishen withdrew his sharp gaze. "Or maybe enemies."

"Don’t say that. You will break my Mom’s heart~"

His chilling gaze softened. "I would love to meet her one day."

"She might betray Dad for you."

Bai Caishen laughed out heartily. "Isn’t it great? Betrayals are always the most fun to watch. It makes even the strongest relationships tumble down like a pile of falling cards."

Mingshen raised his brow. "Interesting. You seem happier than last night."

"I am always happy."

"The degree of happiness feels higher now that somebody is gone from here."

Bai Caishen’s eyes narrowed. "One crew member has died and another is arrested for it. There is nothing to rejoice about. Or perhaps you doubt me?"

"It’s Spicy’s job to have suspicion in these areas. I only look at dead bodies."

"And what does Director Wan’s body suggest to you?"

Mingshen met his eyes head on. "That perhaps his tipsiness wasn’t natural."

Bai Caishen held his gaze for a long moment. "I didn’t have anything to do with the drinks. I did see Manchu handling those."

"And?"

"Nothing."

He clicked his tongue. "You didn’t see anything useful then."

"I did hear something useful though probably," he smiled mysteriously.

"Is it about death or drinks?"

"Neither."

"Then talk to Spicy."

"You two work together. You can give her the message. I heard a strange clicking sound around the time murder seems to have occurred."

"You heard that sound from the B wing to A wing?"

He chuckled. "Of course not. I visited Yufei for some cuts and adjustments in the scenes after the party in Director Wan’s room. His room is right beside the director’s. It was around 3.30 or so that I heard a metallic click sound as we were working. It seemed to come from his room’s direction. It lasted for only a second. I ignored it."

"Is this important?"

"I don’t know," he shrugged. "Let your Spicy decode it if it even means something or not."

A chilly gust of wind passed through and he said, "It’s getting cold. I will head back. Call me if you will ever be plotting for world domination. I would love to become your rival."

His gaze flickered with a wicked mischief as he disappeared into the darkness.
