Chapter 108: Double investigation (2)

Infiniti Technologies.

Huojin got the detailed information of what had happened. Kong Chuanli had the habit of coming to work very early. He would usually be the only one in the office until employees would start to pour in from 9 AM.

But today, there was a change in the scenario. Zhang Feiyu, though arrived later than Kong Chuanli, still came earlier to the office compared to the regular office timings. Sometime later, Zou Haoran followed and then Hu Linglu.

Everybody was working as usual when Zhang Feiyu headed towards Kong Chuanli’s cabin. Ten minutes later, Zou Haoran, too, wanted to meet Kong Chuanli to discuss today’s meeting but he waited for Zhang Feiyu to come out. But when he didn’t after an unusual period of a long time, Zou Haoran frowned and knocked on the door.

He heard no response from inside and feeling even weirder than before, he slightly nudged the door open. He saw Zhang Feiyu standing behind Kong Chuanli’s seat.

Zou Haoran had slowly stepped inside, confused. It was then that he witnessed the complete picture. The scene that surfaced before him made his eyes widen with horror.

Kong Chuanli’s head was rolled to the side with his eyes shut. The end of his tie lightly lay upon Zhang Feiyu’s palm as he blankly stood rooted at his place.

Zou Haoran then noticed the marks on Kong Chuanli’s neck and seeing the tie in Zhang Feiyu’s hand, he could only come to one conclusion. He stumbled back hard, gasping in terror.

Kong Chuanli’s death instantly threw the office atmosphere into a pandemonium. Zhang Feiyu couldn’t explain himself no matter how much he was questioned. He simply remained silent and eventually was kept under the security guard’s watch until the cops arrived.

At present, Huojin and team were inside the cabin, studying the crime scene. Bojing put on his gloves. He glanced at Shilin and panicked. No way he felt he could act like an instructor and give out orders.

"T-T-T-T-T-T-Th...Ca-can...y-you..."

Shilin blinked. "Hm?"

He looked down at Bojing looking down at his trembling hands and asked, "Oh, you want me to wear my gloves too, right?"

Bojing couldn’t express the joy that gushed through after his mind was accurately read. He nodded hard.

He went to work and leaned closer to Kong Chuanli. He traced his finger across the round purple bruise and found some darker spots.

Shilin observed the same and said, "Those spots must be caused by broken blood vessels, right?"

"Yes. Strangulation caused the blood vessels to break and burst. Considering the state of rigor mortis that has just set in, the estimated time of death is less than an hour to an hour max."

"You are right."

Bojing snapped out from his focus and nervousness hit him once again.

As a g-good senior, I should teach him and a-ask him questions so that he-he can learn, right...?

But Bojing didn’t find the courage to ask Shilin about why the time of death that he declared was right. He would glance at Shilin, try to ask but would cower back in his shell.

W-what if he gets annoyed at me for asking him too many questions? He cried.

Shilin could clearly see his senior’s struggle in communicating something to him. "Do you want to ask me something?"

Bojing stiffened and looked away, alarmed. "N-Not really..."

"Ah? But you are my senior. Please ask me all the questions you want. After all, I have joined to learn from you and Boss Yang. Please feel free to scold me too if I get things wrong," his smile was as pleasant as all the times before.

"I-I-I will never scold you!"

I cannot even give out an order much less scold anybody!

"B-but I can...t-try to ask you questions," he meekly said.

He nodded.

"So...so what can you tell me about his body’s state right now?"

Shilin straightened up. "Rigor mortis has already set in. The time of death is maximum one hour because smaller muscles at the face, neck and hands are affected first because they tend to use up their energy stores faster after death. Those said muscles in this case too, are already stiff. Hence, it’s only been an hour at max since he has died."

Bojing brightened. "Right!"

"Also because we got the distress call within an hour of death," Huojin chimed in. "Non-medically speaking. So it’s a straightforward strangulation case, is it?"

"Yes," Bojing replied. "T-The bruise marks also match with the width and circumference of the tie."

Xiyang asked, "Then this seems an open and shut case, right Inspector Mo? Zhang Feiyu was caught red-handed."

Huojin didn’t respond immediately. He tried to match the man he talked to last night with the man who killed his boss today.

Surely, there was motivation and intent. Stress, workload, mental burnout. Maybe everything reached the breaking point today and an argument overwhelmed him to take this step.

"Not red-handed. Zou Haoran saw him standing behind Kong Chuanli. He saw him holding his tie. But he didn’t see Zhang Feiyu actually strangling him. There is a world’s difference between seeing somebody in a criminal position and seeing them actually commit the crime. Details like these matter a lot."

Huojin glanced at Xiyang. "And we are yet to hear Zhang Feiyu’s side of the story. Let’s see what he has to say or...confess."

There were two problems with passing the delivery through the mini compartment, Jia thought.

Firstly, there would be no scope left to nab the abuser with the outer door closed. There was no point in revealing their guns and their badges either. He would simply bang the door shut in a second, kill the woman, escape through a window and climb down. By then, the woman would already be dead.

Secondly, there was no burger inside because it was a fake call. The moment he would realize that, he would join the dots and understand that the woman had called the cops instead of the burger joint. Fury would consume him. She would be dead in the next second.

The man stretched his hand through the mini door outside and waved it. "Pass."

Lim shut his eyes.

We need that door opened at any cost.

"Quick," the man impatiently urged.

Jia made extremely slow movements of ’passing the delivery’ as she churned her mind to think of some idea.

The man grabbed the package and was about to shut the door when she said, "Excuse me! If you don’t mind, can I please get some water?" She touched her throat. "I have been on continuous deliveries so I am really thirsty now..."

"Then buy a bottle outside," he snapped.

"I can’t! I can only use the cash that Fastpoint gives me for change purposes. My manager will be really mad to know that I used the money for myself."

"Then don’t say it, dumbass."

"He will count the balance when I return and the missing money will screw me up. J-Just one glass of water, please!"

The man gritted his teeth and frustrated, he stormed inside to get this over with. He threw the delivery aside and headed towards the kitchen.

Score! Lim sighed with relief.

The mini door was still left open. Jia used this chance and quickly put her hand through the space to reach the outside door’s knob above. She turned it clockwise and the door opened.

Finally!

Mingshen was leaning on his limousine outside. He held his hand up and saw the time on his wrist watch.

"Soooo when will it be my time to shine?"
