Chapter 593: Prepare for ten even if you only need two

Natha said we would have to wake up several times during the night, but when I opened my eyes, the sunlight had already streamed into the room. It seemed like I was sleeping so soundly that I didn’t even wake up in the middle of the night to pee or drink water as usual.

Granted, I had sleeping time to catch up after the long journey to and from the realm of nature, but...

Was I sleeping that deeply I couldn’t hear my baby’s voice?

"Huh?" I got up and looked to the side. Jade was curled on my side, but Shwa and Natha were no longer there. "Where are..."

The balcony door creaked open, then, and Natha stepped inside, playing with a giggling Shwa with his finger. He raised his head and smiled widely when our eyes met. "Ah, you’re awake?" he closed the balcony door slightly with the heel of his foot. "I was feeding Shwa on the balcony so he could get some sunlight."

I see...Natha must have taken Shwa and fed him each time he woke up in the middle of the night, giving no chance for the little boy to scream or cry and wake me up. For all I knew, he probably didn’t sleep at all, just watching us.

That being said, he looked as fresh as a well-rested demon. Still...

"Why didn’t you wake me?" I asked while reaching out my arms as they came closer.

"You looked so exhausted," Natha pointed at the curling little boy on my side with his chin. "Him too."

"Nng..." as if sensing someone talking about him, the little boy wiggled slightly and clutched my nightrobe, mumbling with a deep frown. "Jade...like...together..."

I looked at Natha, and both of us burst into laughter, which we instantly stifled because the boy was groaning in his sleep. We smiled and kissed the sleeping boy, caressing the green hair until Jade stopped scrunching his nose and made a peaceful sleeping face.

Natha smiled and kissed me next, before carefully placing Shwa in my arms. "Here you go..."

"Good morning, baby~" Shwa looked confused because we were suddenly laughing earlier, and his blinking round eyes were just like Jade’s. His little mouth formed a tiny ’o’, either from getting surprised by the laughter or because he just come back from drinking his milk. "Are you full? Did you have your burp? Good boy!"

While I was stroking the bouncy pink cheeks of my little baby, a big baby was sneaking behind me and circling his arms around my waist. He leaned his head on my shoulder and pressed his face to my neck, taking a deep breath as if absorbing my scent.

"Haa..." Natha let out a satisfied sigh and slightly pulled me closer to his chest.

"Hmm?" I tilted my head to glance at him slightly. "Are you tired? Did you get any sleep last night?

"No," his head shifted slightly. "I’m indulging myself."

I laughed and sunk myself slightly deeper into his embrace, taking in his soothing coldness the way he was inhaling my scent earlier. Yeah...we wouldn’t be able to bask in each other presence while I was away. It wouldn’t be just a week like last time, and even back then, I couldn’t say I was in good condition.

"Nat..."

"Mm?"

"I did say I’m going to leave for long, but..." I looked down and stroked my baby’s dark hair, rubbing the cutely protruding horn hidden beneath the strands. "I don’t think I can leave for three months straight."

Since we were glued to each other, I could feel him stiffening. His back straightened up and he raised his head; the stare was very palpable even without me seeing his face.

I swallowed my chuckle and squeezed the baby’s chubby cheeks gently. "So...I was thinking of going back and forth."

"...really?"

"Yeah," I nodded and sighed. How could I leave my sweet baby behind for such a long time? Shwa might survive since his milk did not come from me; he had a lot of nannies, uncles, and aunties aside from his own father. But for me...it would be devastating. "I don’t think I can survive being away from Shwa and you for that long."

"So I’m in second place, now?"

I was in a sullen, sad mood earlier, but I couldn’t help but laugh at my husband nitpicking the pecking order. "Naturally!"

Didn’t you hear Aunt Nezja saying Shwa held the highest authority? Even I was behind this sweet little creature.

Natha chuckled and tilted my face to kiss me after covering the baby’s eyes. It wasn’t like Shwa would understand or anything, but let’s still minimize exposure, okay?

Well, it was nice to make this decision. That being said...

"But I don’t know how to go back and forth smoothly and quickly," I groaned and leaned my head against his shoulder. "Using the teleportation scroll is too inefficient, and frankly...I don’t like doing it in new places."

There was always the risk of getting lost while using teleportation scrolls without a specific coordinate. When I went to the realm of nature, it didn’t matter where since my goal was only to get as close as we could to the Greay Forest before using Vrida. But I couldn’t do that in the human realm.

Not to mention...using teleportation spells consecutively was not an experience I wanted to turn into a habit. It was like riding all kinds of speedy and spinning rides in an amusement park back to back.

I could grit my teeth and do that for Shwa, but nausea was the least of my concerns. If I got lost, it would shave away the precious time.

Natha, who had been contemplating silently, asked. "Can you delay your departure for a few days?"

"Uhh...I don’t think so," my brows furrowed slightly, glancing at the calendar on the side table. "We’re already so pressed for time, and I haven’t even told them we should start searching for the Goddess."

Ugh--if only I already mastered the bird fusion. My last fusion attempt ended up in half-failure, and I didn’t have the time to master it now--not to mention the leeway for the risk.

"Then--the humans must need some time to prepare for the mission, right?" Natha muttered.

"Well...I guess so," I nodded.

It would be a big--probably final--mission. Preparing for months of provision couldn’t be done in a day, no matter how prepared they were. Surely, even Zarfa would want to say a farewell or two to her family.

"In that case, can you go back before departing for real?"

"Oh..." I looked at the determined silver eyes. "What are you suggesting?"

"Tokens."

"Tokens?"

"We’re going to make teleportation tokens."

* * *

Even though we had decided that I would come back to the Castle before departing on the journey for real, Arta still prepared everything before I went to the human realm. And no--it wasn’t just a provision for just three months. They could probably last me for a whole year.

Did she give me the leftover logistics from the banquet or something?

"Please don’t eat random meats they acquired on the way--give this to them to cook it for you," Arta pointed at a chest. "This preserves meats well and keeps them fresh for two years. If you run out, buy something in town and keep it here--no wild meat, you hear me?"

"I can just purify them tho--"

"No--wild animal’s meat is gamey and hard. Please don’t just eat anything, Young Master."

All I could say was nod at the glaring demon, who continued to give me more instructions about the food she packed for me. There was a separate chest for seafood, a chest for vegetables, a chest for fruits, and even a smaller chest for spices. There were dry ingredients, cooking utensils, eating utensils, and even folding tables and chairs, along with tents.

Of course, Arta would never forget to pack me lots of snacks and teas, lemonade, as well as herbal drink concoctions.

That was only the food. There was a chest full of medicines and potion bottles, a chest of mana containers and a transfusion device for emergencies, and... miscellaneous stuff I didn’t even know the function of.

"Arta, what about Jade’s jellies?"

"Here, Sir Jade," Arta placed a personal pouch on top of Jade’s palms--small enough to be secured in Jade’s belt. "I put your jelly and snacks inside, along with your change of clothes. Oh, but the cocoa jelly and the chocolate are in Young Master’s pouch because you can’t have them all the time, okay?"

The little boy gasped at the pouch. "Jade have a pouch too?!"

"Of course! It will stay with you even if you turn back into a bird, so you don’t have to worry," Arta raised her thumb.

While my little boy ran around the room showing off his new personal pouch to the servants and nannies and everyone really, I looked at all the various chests that Arta graciously put a label on so I wouldn’t get confused.

"This won’t fit in my storage ring..."

"Of course not, Young Master. Your storage ring is only for your personal stuff--only put your clothes and valuables there, okay?" Arta pointed a finger at me before taking out a different kind of pouch than the one she gave Jade. "I’ll put these all in this pouch along with some instructions, so you can just hang it in your belt like Sir Jade too."

Jade gasped again and rushed back to me. "Papa same with Jade!"

After laughing and high-fiving the little boy, Natha took my hand and put a money pouch inside my storage ring. "Don’t let yourself live roughly. If anyone wants to save money by staying in the forest or cheap inn, hit their face with this pouch."

Uhh...

"You’ll probably need money to bribe or pay other people, so don’t worry and use it all. I’ll give you more when you come back."

Ah, that would be useful. I nodded and kissed his cheeks in gratitude, but when I pulled back, NAtha was frowning deeply. He held my hand tightly, as if he didn’t want to let go.

The problem was...I also didn’t want to go. But if I stalled for much longer, I would want to run to Shwa again, embrace him, locking ourselves in the bedroom, and never come out until the world burn over.

"I’m going back in two days--or maybe tomorrow," I whispered after kissing his lips softly. "You know that, right?"

"I know," he pressed his face on my neck and inhaled deeply. "I know."

And yet, he only let me go after twenty minutes.
