Chapter 581: Your baby will stay your baby no matter how old they will become

We spent some more time in the garden, joining the elves to play with Shwa and Jade. Shwa moved to my arms and Jade to Natha’s, and we took a video as well as pictures with the recording device. Lesta had become quite proficient with it, although he still wasn’t very confident in multi-angle takes.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t play for too long because we already had a plan with Arta regarding the ceremony and banquet for the next day, so we parted ways soon as the Children of Nature contingents returned to their assigned lodging just outside the Castle.

"Seems like your talk went well," Natha said once we were back in the Lord’s Castle. We were instantly ushered to the nursery for a fitting, but I had a fitting on my own.

"Yeah--oh!" I clasped my hands as the bracelet I slipped on Shwa’s hand resized itself. "It really fits!"

Earlier, Amarein told me that the bracelet had a size-adjustment spell, and I instantly asked them if it was okay for me to let Shwa wear it. They replied with streams of tears coming down their eyes.

Well, I was glad they were happy about it.

"Aaah! So cute!" Arta clasped her cheeks as Shwa swung his hand. The iridescent jewel in the shape of a tree reminded me of the crown that the drows made for me. "Will that grow alongside him?"

"Yeah, just like what Jade is wearing," I nuzzled Shwa’s belly while swinging his arms up and down. The bracelet also had a weight-adjustment spell, so it should be alright for my baby to wear it.

Hearing my words, Jade looked down at his tree-shaped choker--or necklace. "The same as this?"

"Yep."

Although, truthfully, I had no idea when Jade would grow. In his case, I had a feeling that he would come to me one day as a teenager--which meant he would look like me when I was in the hospital. Well, the healthy version of me anyway.

Naturally, Jade was beside himself. "Yaay! We’re the same, Shwa!"

He took the hand with the bracelet and swung it lightly, making the tiny fingers touch the necklace. Perhaps because everyone was squealing in happiness, our little flower opened his mouth widely and cooed happily. "Uaa!"

"Look! Look! Baby laugh!"

It was the law of this house that whatever baby did, we followed. So naturally, we were all laughing happily, nuzzling the cutest baby in the world.

"Yep, yep--do you like it? You like the bracelet, Shwa? Papa will buy you lots in the future, ’kay? Oh, oh--your father also has a lot in the collection room, you know, should we look at them together someday?"

"And you were rejecting all of them before," Natha chuckled while patting my head. "But it’s all in when it comes to your son, huh?"

"Of course!"

"Well, that’s great and all, but can we do the fitting now?"

Arta, who had already recovered from admiring Shwa, cleared her throat and clapped her hands. Right--the real agenda was to fit the clothes we would be wearing for the naming ceremony and the banquet afterward.

Thankfully, since it was back-to-back events, we didn’t need to change. We also considered the fact that it would be too uncomfortable for Shwa to keep changing, so we made it as simple as possible--which was good for me too!

"Wow, a fitting when he’s just ten days old..." I muttered while the nannies changed Shwa’s clothes with Arta’s instruction. "It’s not like anybody will notice if the dress is slightly bigger..."

"It’s not for aesthetics, Young Master," Arta clicked her tongue and wiggled her fingers in front of my face.

"It’s for comfort, comfort! You won’t want Young Master Shwa to feel uncomfortable and restless during the ceremony, right?"

"Oh!" I clapped my hands in agreement. "Arta, you’re the best!"

"Hmph!"

She posed with her hips smugly as Angwi carried the newly dressed Shwa in front of us.

"Oh!"

All I could do was just sigh. Or scream. But Shwa might get startled if I did, so I just opted to sigh.

Why, oh why, was my baby so adorable? So pretty? So cute? Look at him in that long white robe with dark blue--almost looked like black--flower embroidery...even the limit of monochrome could not deter his beauty! And the small ribbon tying the robe! Aah...I could only clench my throbbing chest.

"Nat..."

"I know sweetheart," Natha as grabbing my shoulder, and I could feel his trembling hand--even though he looked as cool as always on the outside.

"Papa, Papa...Shwa is more cute than Jade..."

Whoa...for Jade to admit that...

I laughed and hugged my eldest son. "Jade is also the cutest! Both of you are the cutest in my eyes."

"Really?" Jade turned around with sparkling eyes and hugged me tight, laughing together.

"See? What did I say?" Arta continued prancing around smugly, pulling out more clothes from the rack. "Also, it would be nice if you all could wear matching clothes, so...tadaa!"

In Jade’s fashion, she spread her arms that were holding three sets of clothes in the same color and embroidery as Shwa’s. Jade gasped and jumped in place, looking at the smaller robes with sparkling eyes.

"For Jade too?"

"Of course!" Arta grinned and let Jade hold onto the robe. "Aren’t you Young Master’s child too, Sir Jade?"

Once again, Jade gasped the moment he grabbed the robe. He raised his head and smiled widely. "Jade like Arta very much!"

"More than my brother?" the cunning demon arched her brow.

"Mm..." Jade hugged his robe and swayed slightly in contemplation. "But Lesta always give Jade candy..."

Ah, of course, clothes would never beat candy.

Arta pursed her lips in disappointment. "Sir Jade, I’m the one who buys all of your jellies, you know..."

"Arta is the best!"

Wow, that was fast. Of course, jellies were more important than candies.

Hopefully, not more important than me.

Arta laughed and held up her hands. "Yaay!"

Leaving the giggling duo who were busy high-fiving behind, I retreated with Natha to try on our robe. Different from the worship day, the family was traditionally dressed in white, with embroidery or accessories based on the family’s color. The robes itself was simple, but with Arta’s seamstresses’ skills and the expensive fabric, even the simple stuff could look exquisite.

"Alright, why don’t you run it by me again?" I turned around and lifted my arms so Natha could tie my sash.

"It’s almost like the worship ceremony," he said. "We’re going to climb the hill with Shwa. It’ll be a bit of a hike, so it would be better if--"

"No," I stopped him immediately. "I’ll hold Shwa so he can stay warm through Igniss’s trait. Don’t worry about my arms--my rejuvenation is back in full force now," I glanced at him and grinned. "Or would you like to test it first?"

Natha smirked against the top of my head. "What is this lecherous invitation on the eve of our son’s precious day, hmm? Such a pervert Papa."

"That’s not a convincing scolding coming from someone rubbing my waist," I giggled and leaned against him.

"Well, what can I do if my husband is so inviting," he leaned down and kissed my neck, making me shudder at the ticklish feeling. But the touch receded swiftly, making me blink in confusion. "Unfortunately, I can’t afford to compromise on my own welfare with such an important event tomorrow."

"Oh, that’s too bad," I turned around and clung to his neck. "But since it’s for our son’s sake, I’ll let it slide."

He chuckled and kissed me again, on the lips this time. Just enough to not make our front tense up. Especially because we heard the energetic steps of our other son.

"Papa! Papa! Look at Jade!"

And there he was, slamming the door wide open and twirling around in his long robe, making his wide sleeves flutter.

"Oh, look at you looking all pretty!" I opened my arms and let Jade jump into my arms.

"Papa also pretty!" he squeezed my cheeks and leaned forward to whisper. "But...Shwa is a tiny bit more pretty."

Oh, no argument there. I looked up at Natha, who had finished changing himself. "So, what’s next?"

"We walk all the way to the Temple, where the Head Cleric will be waiting," he continued. "We will kneel in front of the altar, and the Head Cleric will bring the eternal fire to light up the torch."

Apparently, the fire had snuffed out at the end of the Sacred Days--that stingy Lord.

"And?"

"And I will write our son’s name on the parchment."

Our son’s name...it sounded wonderful already. "Shwa’s name..." Jade blinked and swayed his legs slightly. "Papa...will Shwa still Shwa after tomorrow?"

Huh...I hadn’t thought about it. I looked at Natha in bewilderment, and he chuckled in response. "It’s up to you," he said. "A lot of children maintained their fetus name until they became an adult," he paused, contemplating for a bit, and then added. "Well, or until they felt too embarrassed about it."

I giggled and turned to Jade, whispering to ourselves. "Shwa it is."

"Shwa is Shwa!"
