Chapter 578: Newborn babies are grandmas’ and grandpas’ idol

"So, that’s what happened..."

As Aunt Nezja advised me earlier, I told Natha about what I had been thinking. When he returned from his office, I took him to the bedroom before he could visit Shwa as usual, telling him that Aunt Nezja was having a bonding time with our son.

He went from intrigued to concerned when I brought him to the couch instead of the bed and put on a serious expression. There were even a few seconds when he looked dreaded before asking me if he had done something wrong.

I laughed because I realized I was acting too tense--perhaps because I was in the middle of solving the box’s puzzle when he came. He sighed in relief when I took out the treasure box and told him what I said to Aunt Nezja earlier. I waited for his reply while rubbing the bracelet, thinking about modifying it to fit Shwa.

"Sweetheart,"

"Mm?"

Natha got up from the couch and sat on the ottoman he dragged in front of me instead. He held up his palms and I placed my hands there instinctively.

"This is your people, your place, your inheritance," he said. "You can do whatever you want. My role is to help you pave the way with whatever I have in my possession--and then some."

That meant if he hadn’t had it in his possession yet, he would try his very best to acquire it.

"All of my resources are yours; including myself," he added, and even without seeing into those firm silver eyes, I already knew he meant every single word. Every promise. "Just tell me what to do, and I shall heed it."

He no longer said things like he’d do it for me or he’d wage war for me like before. Instead, he told me he would let me do what I wanted and supported it, which I appreciated. Could I take it that his trust in my agency had grown?

I leaned forward and hugged him, sighing on his shoulder. Talking to Aunt Nezja helped, but talking to my husband was the best.

"Just remember," he added while stroking my head.

"Yes?"

"That I, the Lair, and the people who work for me, are yours too," he patted my back, before pulling me into a tighter embrace. "We are your home too, and Shwa’s."

"I know," I held his cheeks and kissed his lips briefly. "And I’m always grateful for that."

He curled his lips. "But?"

"But there’s a dream I always have in the back of my mind," I held his shoulder and smiled bashfully. "One which is getting stronger every time I look at Shwa."

It was the first time I mentioned it, and for someone who used to never dare to dream, it was embarrassing to have such a lofty-sounding ambition.

Natha’s hands on my waist were gentle and soothing, reassuring. "Would you share it with me?"

"Somewhere that is like Shwa," I said it quietly, almost like a whisper.

It was something that visited my mind fleetingly when I heard about halflings that found no places in both realms. Something I thought about when I was deep in thought about my child’s future as someone with mixed blood. Something that I had to admit was born out of fear that my children might face rejection in their lives.

And so, as their parent, I wanted to create a place where they wouldn’t have to worry about such a thing.

"A place where the three realms could harmonize into one."

I bit my lips as my ears were filled with the sound of my heartbeat, and my nape felt both hot and cold at the same time. Was this how those office workers in drama felt when they finished their presentations in front of the big bosses? Not that I had any presentation, but--

"Ah..." Natha tapped the scroll of the floorplan and smirked. "I think I understand what you mean."

As expected of Natha.

"But...the palace isn’t mine," I smiled wryly. "At least, it isn’t mine alone."

Just because I was their last ’prince’, it didn’t mean I had authority over the druid or had the right to do anything I wanted with a territory--even if, say, I managed to get it back.

But Natha merely shrugged. "Well then, I think tomorrow’s event will be a perfect place to talk about it, don’t you think?"

The next day, while Zia took my human friends shopping for clothes and enjoying the ’baby festival’ in L’Anaak Eed, I met the Realm of Nature’s contingents in the large pavilion where I met Issa the High Elf for the first time.

This time too, she came with two other elves and the Chiefs of Druid Tribes. Initially, they just wanted to come for a familial visit--you know, how the Grandpas and Grandmas in the neighborhood would flock to a newborn’s house bearing gifts. However, since their scheduled visit coincided with the naming ceremony, the visit became a formal event where the elves were also tagging along.

Didn’t mean we would keep it stiff all the time, though.

"My Little Prince!" Grandma Tiralein hugged me tightly when I greeted them below the steps of the pavilion.

It had been more or less nine months since we’d seen each other, and she showered me with hugs and kisses. So enthusiastic she was that the elves cleared their throat awkwardly--seemed like they weren’t big on public displays of affection, even familial ones.

But we didn’t care! The other Chiefs did the same--minus the cheeks and forehead kisses--and they asked me all kinds of things about Shwa’s birth, saying that Amarein was so stingy and didn’t want to share anything.

Oh, Good--I didn’t want them to know about how my heart stopped and my lungs ceased to function, or how I had to use a vampire’s longevity pill to survive. Let’s not give them any detainment ideas; I had enough one helicopter husband by my side.

So I just told them it was wonderful and diverted their attention to our beautiful garden full of blooming flowers as if we were at the peak of spring already. Even those only bloomed in summer and autumn participated in my son’s birth-day.

"Oh, this is so, so wonderful!" the Grandmas and Grandpas exclaimed in excitement.

"Indeed," even the elves agreed. "To think we would be able to feel so much nature’s energy in the Demon Realm..."

I felt an absurd sense of pride, suddenly, knowing that it was my child who made this all happen.

"Ahh...even nature rejoices at the Littlest Prince’s birth!" Grandma Tiralein clasped her hands together in front of her chest as if praying. "I can’t wait to see him."

It was a sentiment welcomed by the other druids and the elves; even the stiff Issa nodded in agreement. They were even visibly restless, and couldn’t stop looking at the Castle’s direction.

I...probably should never let them know that Shwa’s soul was that of the Primordial One...right?

"He’ll be here shortly," Natha, the good host, told them while gesturing inside the pavilion, where chairs and a small buffet table with refreshments had been set. "He was having his meal when we heard you were coming, so he should be--ah..."

Right when Natha was talking, we could hear the sound of people walking through the yard path. Well, with four nannies plus Angwi, as well as four of Haikal’s subordinates, it was a rather large entourage for a ten-day-old baby, so the presence was noticeable. Especially with Jade skipping around Angwi and Shwa.

Even then, Natha didn’t think it was enough and had positioned several shadow guards around our son. I wondered what they were doing all this time though, since Shwa’s only movement was nursery-balcony-nursery-balcony, nothing more. It was his first time going outside the Castle, and...

"Huh...he looks happy," I chuckled, seeing the bright emeralds and the swaying limbs. Shwa was a gentle baby and not very expressive, although I reckoned there was only so much a ten-year-old baby could make with his face.

Ah...I should have brought him out more often rather than thinking it was dangerous...

"Oh, my!"

The Chiefs and the elves immediately turned toward Shwa before Natha managed to make them sit down. From the way they were fidgeting, it felt like they would rush toward him right away, so I clapped my hands rather loudly.

Clearing my throat, I spread my arm toward the pavilion. "My child is not used to crowds yet, so I would appreciate it if you refrain from making loud noises and wait calmly inside."

They flinched; the old druids and noble elves cleared their throats and smiled sheepishly before finally entering the pavilion one by one and obediently taking a seat.

Ahh~ baby was truly the center of the universe!

Hiding a smile behind my pressed lips, I walked lightheartedly to take Shwa from Angwi’s cradle. My good son made a soft giggling sound when he moved into my arms and I could hear small gasps coming from the pavilion, even soft clapping sound followed by a sharp hush.

Ah...yes, yes--the main character is coming now.
