Chapter 539: Have you ever thought employing a demigod to paint your baby room and babysitting your child?

Natha put me down carefully in front of the bassinet, but even though my heart screamed and told me to check it right away, my body froze.

My hands, pausing in the air, were too scared to touch it. Thoughts like ’what if I break it’ flooded my mind, like what some people might think when they were in front of a beautiful piece of art.

And, oh...it was an art, alright.

Call me excessive or whatever--I didn’t care. For me, this box that my baby would use in the near future was an art.

Firstly, the white color was very fitting with the fluttering white petals all over the wall. And even without me saying anything, there were flower-shaped filigrees all over the frame, with small refined colorful jewels as the center of the flowers. A steady stream of mana that fueled the formations hidden all over the bassinet could be felt from those jewels.

It looked beautiful yet strong, and it was made of white timber that was stronger than metal. The many formations I asked to be carved were done expertly in such a way that they wouldn’t be seen from outside. The sheer fabrics the druid sent from me, made of elemental stone thread, were used for an attachable canopy during the night and nap time. Naturally, this canopy also had all kinds of protections.

All I could say was just...perfect. It was so perfect.

Oh, Uncle Sol. I could forgive you just from this alone, you know...

"How is it?" Natha asked after I let out the breath I forgot to exhale. I did not bother to answer and just looked at him. From how he immediately laughed, I knew it was properly conveyed through my expression. He nodded and smiled in satisfaction. "Mm, worth the money."

For the sake of my sanity--and so I wouldn’t feel guilty--I would never look at the invoice.

"Haa...isn’t it pretty?" I finally found the courage to touch the bassinet after seeing that it was made of sturdy materials. My fingers brushed over the beautiful filigree in awe. "How could Uncle Sol thought about decorating it with flowers?"

"Didn’t you doodle tiny flowers in the parchment you gave him?" Natha tilted his head. "I think you may even doodling Shwa’s name in the corner."

I gasped, clasping my flaming cheeks. But I didn’t have to wallow in embarrassment for long because a loud chirping noise could be heard from the hallway.

[Papaaaa!]

"Jadeee!" I turned around and spread my arms wide to welcome my baby--ahem, juvenile--bird who usually dove straight into my embrace.

But this time, Jade pulled the brake right before crashing into me. The green eyes scanned me all over, and only after seeing that there was no weird equipment attached to me did the sweet bird resume the hug.

[Papa!] the plump cheek rubbing onto mine, and Jade’s happy giggle resounding in my head.

"Don’t you have a morning training?" Natha tilted his head.

[Yes! But Papa suddenly feel so happy--baaam! Like fireworks! So Jade run to Papa because Jade want to know what make Papa so happy!]

Oh...was it so palpable that Jade could even feel it from...wherever it was earlier. D’Ara, who followed Jade’s excited flight, laughed as she entered the room.

"Oh!" seeing her reminded me of the wall painting that magically appeared. "D’Ara! Were you the one doing this? The wall?"

"Do you like it?" she stroked my chin the way I usually stroke Jade--which was rather embarrassing, but also unexpectedly nice.

"Of course, I like it!"

D’Ara smirked and pointed at Natha. "The brat kept begging and nagging me all day yesterday."

"Nat!" My eyes widened; I felt both grateful for his effort, but also felt bad that D’Ara had to do it in the middle of making the transfusion set. Sure, Izzy and Neel were the ones who made it, but D’Ara still had to check on the spells and formations carved on them.

How could this husband of mine ask his teacher to paint our baby’s room?

"What? You said you wanted it..." Natha pursed his lips.

Did this demon sulk?

"I was telling you to ask her for permission to paint the scenery of the white blossom hill on the wall--not for her to do it herself!" I hissed at him, and he sulked even more--his eyes narrowed and his lips pursed.

See? See? He became bratty in front of D’Ara!

"But the flowers wouldn’t be able to move if we asked a regular painter," Natha muttered with stiff lips.

Ugh...well, that was true, but...that was true, huh?

"It’s okay, sweetling," D’Ara chuckled while patting my head. "I want to do it too. Just consider it as my gift for the baby."

"But you’re already helping us so much with the transfusion..."

"Oh, that..." she curled her glinting eyes. "I’ll make a lot of money from that, so don’t worry about it."

Huh...was that how things worked?

[Papa! The walls move!]

"No, Jade. It’s the painting that’s moving. Look--the flowers are scattering around."

Jade gasped and flew around the room following the petals. [This is Teacher’s home!]

"That’s right," D’Ara nodded. "You remember it well, Jade."

[Jade play a lot with Vrida in Teacher’s home!] the little bird chirped excitedly; the sound seemed to blend well with the beautiful painting--until Jade stopped when the beady eyes finally caught the sight of the only piece of furniture in the room. [Papa? What is this?]

Jade landed carefully on the bassinet, perhaps because it felt that the item was an important one. I giggled and patted the soft mattress, answering the little bird in a whisper. "It’s where Shwa will sleep in the future."

Jade gasped; the little bird was so surprised that it fell and rolled into the mattress. [Oh!] Jade flinched when we laughed, and immediately flapped its wings to perch on my shoulder.

"What’s wrong? You can try the bed if you want," I stroked the surprised little bird.

But the green head shook. [No! Jade should not sleep in Shwa’s bed before Shwa!]

I raised my brows and looked at Natha, who had the same expression as me. We chuckled and stroked the little bird who was already acting like a proper sibling before Shwa was even born.

"Oh, I know! Why don’t we ask Shwa’s permission?" I clapped my hands.

[Lessgo! Lessgo!] Jade jumped up and down on my shoulder until Natha took the little bird and scolded it quietly for burdening my shoulder.

Geez--Jade almost weighed nothing.

"Oh, I’m coming too," D’Ara clasped her hands, and received a weird look from Natha.

"Why are you coming too?"

"Why can’t I go see my grandchild?"

"Why is Shwa your grandchild?"

Why were you bickering? I tilted my head and scooped Jade off Natha’s hands before leaving the nursery to go visit Shwa again. This time by walked on my own instead of being carried.

Meanwhile, the teacher and disciple behind us were still bickering.

"I treated you like my sons, so of course Shwa will be my grandchild!" D’Ara continued.

"You just say that because you want to play with a little baby," Natha scoffed.

"Of course I want to play with a baby! Do you know what it is called? Babysitting! I’m going to babysit your baby. Who else do you think has the privilege of having me as a babysitter? Huh?"

"Your babysitting method is questionable when I look at your children, and we have a lot of babysitters here."

"How could you say that? I babysat Sada’s children all the time in the past!"

"My point exactly."

"!!"

I whistled and covered Jade’s ear while skipping through the castle’s hall, laughing at the servants and staff who turned into statues when they witnessed their Lord and the Vampire Progenitor bickering childishly about child-rearing methods.

I wondered if Natha’s bickering nature was nurtured in D’Ara’s abode instead of the academy. Hmm...I think the academy was where he nurtured his debating and bullshitting nature, which he used well when he bickered with people.

Ah, what a nice day. I almost forgot the sensation of walking around lightly with my own feet. I had yet to have my breakfast, snacking on mana stones, or doing my meditation, but my mana pool felt good and stable. It was around seventy percent full, which was very good. I was sure I could smack the Spectre easily if I had this much mana that night.

Hmm...should I?

I slowed my pace and tilted my head in ponder. Before I realized it, the two demons had stopped chirping behind me and Natha stroked my head while asking curiously. "What’s wrong, sweetheart?"

"Oh, you’re done?"

I glanced at them, and I had the rare chance of seeing both the Lord of Green and Mother Progenitor clear their throat in embarrassment.

"Ah, yes. We reached some agreement for now," Natha flashed a business smile.

Without me? The audacity.

Natha chuckled awkwardly at my unimpressed gaze and unfairly gave me a hug and a soft kiss on my temple. Oh, whatever--I would vent my annoyance to the one who deserved it the most.

"So? What’s wrong? What are you thinking?"

"Hmm...I was thinking about some smacking."

"Smacking?"

[Smacking?]

I shrugged as the forest came into view. "Remember when I told you about slapping an audacious nightmare?"

"Ah..."

[Smacking time!]
