Chapter 490: That time you realized your husband is a churchboy
"Tadaaa!" I mimicked Jade as I jumped out of the Great Tree. My little boy seemed to like it since he laughed and tried to clap--although he couldn’t do that while holding Shwa simultaneously.
Natha let out a relieved sigh as he approached me--along with my kids. "You seem energetic."
"Of course! I told you Mother might give me something," I grinned.
"She did?"
"Uh-huh, a delicious drink--almost like Amrita, but smoother and very shooting," I raised my thumbs and licked my lips. My mana was full just from that, but I could feel it was decreasing gradually the moment I stepped out--just a bit, almost unnoticeable.
But I was feeding the fetus, so...who cares?
"Alright, let’s go home."
Natha sounded so eager that I almost burst out laughing. But it would be an insult to his genuine concern, so I just pressed my lips and asked Amarein. "How long was I inside?"
"Around five minutes."
Pfft--sorry! I’m so sorry, but...
Okay, I got it. My husband was the biggest worrywart out there. Although...I had a feeling that if I were with the Demon Lord, he would probably be less worried.
On the other hand, it was nice hearing him calling the cabin the druid prepared for us as our ’home’.
It was a regular cabin with the same design that the druid used; made of inflammable timber and fire-resistant vines--Ignis wouldn’t be able to burn it down unless it got serious and used the Salamander breath. They even made a special children’s room for Jade to sleep in! So nice, these druids were.
It was placed at the settlement’s highest point, so the way there was rather tiring. But the view! Oh, the view! We could see everything from the master bedroom, including the waterfall and the whole settlement. A five-star, I would say.
"What did you talk about inside?" Natha asked while we were walking to the cabin. Amarein glanced at me, but immediately looked forward as if she wasn’t going to listen--although she totally would.
"A lot! I asked Her if She knew when Shwa would be born, but..." I shook my head. "We just need to wait and see. Oh, and she told me I did a good job."
"You did," Natha remarked without hesitation. "You did really, really well."
"Papa do well! Papa good job!"
"Thank you!" I grinned and pinched Jade’s chubby cheek. "And then we gossiped a bit about Lord An’Hyang who liked to play around in other dimensions..."
"Gossiped..."
Natha seemed to be horrified that we were gossiping about his God, which was honestly rather funny. He looked like how the elves talking about Mother--or the bow.
"But thanks to His hobby, they could find me and send you there," I giggled, finally finding out how the Demon God had a whole coffee shop set in His abode, complete with the frappe and all that stuff.
I also told Natha a lot more, like how Mother said Lord An’Hyang divided His power into seven fragments to be given to the demons because He was too lazy to watch over all demons and preferred his cross-dimensions hangouts instead. Naturally, Natha got even more horrified that he asked me to stop because he felt like he would commit blasphemy if he listened to me any longer.
Never thought my husband was such a religiously devoted guy.

"Mngh..." I stretched my body habitually when I woke up, only to get confused because the room was dark and Natha wasn’t on the bed.
After blinking dazedly for half a minute, I realized then that I had fallen asleep in the afternoon, after having a sumptuous lunch that Grandma Cook made for us. Feeling comfortable and full made me feel drowsy, and I remembered lounging in the garden with Jade before...
Oh, well--seemed like I fell asleep there and Natha tucked me in the bed, even changed my clothes and everything.
I rolled to my stomach and contemplated whether I wanted to go back to sleep or have a little night snack. The answer came easily with the rumbling in my stomach, so I crawled out of bed half-asleep. I instantly perked up, however, when I heard voices outside.
Brightening up at Natha’s voice, I was about to burst the door and strolled out when I heard Amarein’s voice. Huh? They were still talking? I had thought Natha was talking to Ignis, but...
Curiously, I glanced at the clock on the wall and it was close to midnight already.
Huh...
So, folks...what would you do if you stumbled upon this curious situation?
Surely, the right answer was to eavesdrop, right?
I mean...I knew it was wrong, but...
Oh, whatever--I heightened my sense instead of walking closer to the door, so I could hear them better.
"...tomorrow? Though I’m not sure I’d like it," I heard Natha’s voice.
"Me neither," Amarein replied. "But he should know sooner or later, don’t you think."
Natha sighed heavily, and there was a rustling sound like he was sweeping his hair. Uh-oh...he only did that if he was frustrated.
What was it? Were they talking about me?"
"What about asking him first?" Amarein spoke again after a while. "Let’s explain it well and ask what he wants to do. It’s his right."
"Haa...I agree with that, but...I don’t know if I want to tell him now. I’ve never seen him looking that exhausted except when he was sick, and--"
Okay, that’s it! I grabbed the door handle and stepped out. "And what?" I stared at the flinching druid and demon. Natha’s oath to not sense my thoughts without my consent blinded him from my presence too, so it was rather fun seeing him flustered. Oh, but I digress. "What is it that you should tell me but don’t want to?"
"Sweetheart--"
Was that panic I sensed in his voice? He parted his lips and stopped, before sighing and standing up.
"Forgive me," he approached me and held my hand. "I’m going to tell you, so don’t look at me like that...please?"
"Like what?"
He tightened his hold on my hand and replied quietly. "Like you’re disappointed in me."
Oh...was I making such a face? I blinked and, after looking at his saddened face, held his hand back. "Alright, but you better tell me everything."
He made the promise and led me to the couch in front of the fireplace, where Amarein was sitting while giving me a wry smile. After tucking me in a blanket, he sat by my feet rather than on the chair.
Hmm...was this his way of showing me how guilty he felt?
Honestly...kind of fun.
"So? What is it? What were you talking about?" I looked at them interchangeably. "You were talking about me meeting someone, was it...did it have something to do with why you came to the spot before me?"
"You are very perceptive for something like this," Natha said, for some reason sounding both amused and exasperated.
What? So what if I am dense about myself?
"So I am right?" I looked at Amarein, who was more likely to answer me without glib.
"Yes," she nodded. "Do you remember our last visit, when the fairies speak of someone staying in that spot?"
"The person is still there?" I raised my brow. "But...they said the person is not dangerous, didn’t they? Natha also..."
"Not dangerous..." Amarein muttered, sounded strangely bitter. "Yes, he’s not particularly dangerous--not to you, anyway."
Huh? Then what was the fuss about? Why didn’t Natha want me to meet that person? Just because I was a bit tired? Didn’t he hear me when I said I was rejuvenated by Mother?
I turned to look at Natha with a frown, and he just sighed in response. "Do you remember when the Chief told you about the royal family member who went missing?"
"Grandma’s uncle?"
"...yes," Amarein confirmed in a vague mutter.
"What?!" I stood up with my eyes opened wide. "Then why didn’t you tell me earlier? Shouldn’t we meet him? Haven’t you been looking for him all this time?" I looked at them back and forth. "If he’s Grandma’s uncle, doesn’t it mean he’s my Great Uncle? Where is he? Did you bring him here?"
Oh my, oh my...so that was why the fairies said the person who stayed there was similar to me. I guessed it was because we had royal blood, so they instinctively thought the person wasn’t dangerous.
But then...why?
Why did Natha and Amarein seem so reluctant to let us meet? I looked at them, and frowned as they made a strange expression. Was that...apprehension?
"Why?" I took a seat again, grabbing Natha’s hand. "Why? Tell me."
"Sweetheart--"
"You promise," I tightened my grip and stared into his eyes; glared if I must. "I’m not that weak."
Natha pressed his lips and closed his eyes for a few seconds; jaw clenched as if he was fighting some urge to destroy stuff. This reaction got me worried, because...what could happen? Was he sick? Was he dying? How bad was it that Natha felt compelled to hide it from me?
"That person..." the answer came from Amarein instead. How weird, to hear Amarein called a royal family like that; so cold and...bitter. Her eyes darkened for a second, before continuing while looking into my eyes, as if to tell me that she spoke no lie. "That person is the one who caused our kingdom’s downfall.
Oh, it was bad.
It was worse than anything I imagined.
