Chapter 456: I’m a simple man; I see a chest, I go for it

Opening my eyes to see his face and hearing his voice...how long ago was it?

...well, it was two weeks ago, but still!

Knowing that I would continue to have this scenery and feel this comfortable cold from now on, without having to say goodbye to him later--was such a wonderful feeling. Tonight too, I would sleep beside him. Tomorrow too, I would wake up with him.

I couldn’t stop smiling simply from that.

"Do you have a good sleep?" he brushed some stray hair off my face.

"The best!" I dove into his embrace again, pressing my cheek against his chest. It was nice being able to hear his heartbeat first thing in the morning--the nice muscle in between was just a bonus.

He chuckled, and I received a rain of kisses on my temple. Ah...what a nice morning.

"To think we just went to sleep naked without doing anything," he laughed softly while burying his face in my hair.

"But it’s nice," I looked up. "Isn’t it?"

"Nice as nice can be," he gave me a peck. "I’m just surprised for you."

I puffed my cheek and smacked his upper arm. Fine--so I had a bigger appetite between us! Did it mean I wouldn’t want a cuddle-only night?

Although...well, I guess it was kind of weird for the night of our wedding.

"Let’s just save the energy for the honeymoon," he let out a crisp laugh. "We’ll probably get too exhausted today after all."

"Ugh--"

Just thinking about the whole parade and banquet already made me sigh. He pinched my cheek and smirked in amusement. Well, sorry for not being good in a crowd!

"Ah, and I had been taking those herbs and medicine you sent my way," he said. I perked up and lifted my upper body to look at him with widened eyes.

"You mean..."

He leaned forward and whispered into my ear. "The ones for stamina."

I gasped and clasped my mouth with both hands.

"Wow...look at those sparkling eyes," Natha chuckled and shook his head, giving me a hopeless look. "You like it so much, huh?"

"Well, I mean...yes?"

"Haa..." he sighed and laid down again, exhaling heavily and making this...sad expression. "I can’t even satisfy my husband; how pathetic of me."

"N-no! I mean...umm...you’re not pathetic at all! You’re great! You were really really great!" I scrambled in panic, fumbling with his hands. Oh, gosh--what have I done? I didn’t mean to make him feel like this, I was just...ugh--I was so stupid. "It...it doesn’t matter even if you’re not--I mean...umm..."

Aaahh--I didn’t even know what I was talking about anymore.

"Pfft--"

What? I looked up, and saw his eyes curled; lips stretched cheekily as he grinned at me fumbling about.

He was...

I gripped the pillow beside me and smacked him in the face. "You!" I could hear laughter behind the pillow so I smacked him some more. "Yoouu!!"

"Ahahaha!!" he laughed and tackled me to the mattress, tickling me just like my friends did last night. Rather than his tickling, however, I was laughing because of his laugh--wide and free and made him look like he used to be some seventy years ago when we just met.

Still, I pinched his side for revenge.

He laughed some more and rained kisses on my face again. "I know, sweetheart," he said after taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly at the end of his laugh. "I know you enough to know."

Tsk--so he just did it for the sake of teasing me?!

"Sweetheart..."

"What?"

He stroked my cheek softly; his silver eyes looking a bit dazed. "Can you call me ’husband’ now?"

Ngh! Damnit damnit damnit! I knew this day would come but aaaagh--could he not do this right after waking up?! That raspy voice and lazy eyes always weakened me like no other!

But listen to me--listen to me! I already felt like a boiled crab every time he mentioned that I was his husband. You think I could survive calling him one?!

I inhaled sharply and pressed my lips, before crawling out of him. "No," I climbed down the bed and put on my morning robe.

"Sweetheart..."

I turned my head and puffed my cheek. "It’s your punishment for what you did."

Immediately, I went to the bathroom, trying to make it seem like I wasn’t running away from the inevitable. Well...at least I heard his laugh again while I was closing the bathroom door.

"Papa!"

Jade was still in the boy form when we came down early for breakfast. He immediately asked for a hug and refused to leave my lap during mealtime. Well, he did hold back a lot yesterday, and he would have to hold back even more tomorrow, so I just let him.

And it prevented my nosy friends from asking me about last night. Although we actually did nothing but sleep naked. But that might invite more questions which I couldn’t answer, so...

Yay for Jade! I squeezed the little boy and gave him lots of kisses, which filled the table with laughter that sounded like chirping.

"You remember that you’ll need to turn into bird again if you want to come with us in the parade, don’t you?" I reminded the little boy.

"Of course, Jade remember! Jade will wear new clothes for bird!"

"Good boy," I ruffled the excited green hair and shifted my gaze to Zarfa, whose narrowed eyes had been observing Natha instead--probably looking for a sign of exhaustion or something, which obviously she couldn’t. "Will you be alright staying here alone?"

Naturally, it would be too complicated for Zarfa and Aina to watch the parade or attend the banquet full of demons. They could, of course, since I was also a human, but...there was no point coming for a party where they knew no one and where the guests might stare at them. Didn’t sound like too much fun, did it?

But they said they wanted to send me off for the honeymoon, so they would stay in the Lair until the going away.

"What do you mean alone? We have Neel with us, and your interesting nanny," Zarfa covered her giggle, making sure the last bit was uttered in a whisper. "There are many things to explore here, so you don’t need to worry. We’ll be fine--right?"

Aina nodded wordlessly because her mouth was stuffed with so much food her cheeks bulged. But I could still somehow make it that she was grinning.

"And we can just see the recording that the elf made later," Zarfa added.

"You can still watch the parade if you want," Natha said, prompting us to look at him in surprise. "You can ride Vrida and watch it from above with binoculars."

We gasped together, and Aina almost choked on her food from the sudden excitement.

"Really? Is it alright?"

"The problem is about being seen, right? So they just need to not be seen. They could take a flying carriage, technically, but there would be a lot of those today, so it would be better to have an even higher point of view," Natha shrugged. "Besides, it’ll be thrilling watching it from the top of the wyvern, right?"

"Oh, that sounds so fun!" Zarfa clasped her hands. "Thank you, Doc!"

It was fascinating that she kept calling Natha ’Doc’, which confused the others. Natha didn’t mind though, so all is well.

Anyway, we looked for the keeper to tell her about the plan, and Vrida was more than happy to take the girls since it meant she could also watch the parade. But thanks to the detour, we were late getting to the Lair, and Arta was ready to scold us.

"Yours are easy, my Lord, but Young Master’s outfit is another matter!" she scolded Natha, funnily enough, for failing to deliver me on time to the Lord’s quarters where my outfits for the day had been waiting. "Do you know how long it is to put together a druid clothing?"

And so, my new husband was getting kicked out of our bedroom to spend time lounging in the living room, waiting for me with Jade.

Arta was right; my wedding ceremony outfit was actually the simplest, easiest of them all. With no visible stitches, Arta and the servants had to work a lot to put on the druid flowy robe, fastening it carefully with a sash and fitting on some accessory so the whole thing wouldn’t come undone in the middle of the parade. Although we had done a fitting before, it still took a long time for them to finish my clothes.

But they still worked considerably fast, even with Arta panicking for the time slot. The parade should start two hours before midday so we could be done before the sun was setting. That way, we would have enough time to change for the banquet.

Phew, what a busy schedule.

"And now, for the last touch."

Arta smiled widely as she took out the crown from the box and put it on my head. I didn’t realize it before, but Lesta told me the crown had a rune formation that would make it stay in my head even if a storm blew toward me or I fell down. Unless I was willing for it to fall, it would never fall.

Heh--it was like those drows knew I was a clumsy little thing.

"Haa..." Arta sighed as she stepped back to check on me the last time. Only for a second, though. "Alright, we can admire it as much as we want later. Now, chop chop!"

And then she ushered me down; not to the living room, but to the court where the carriage had been waiting. Natha had gone ahead to check that everything was safe and comfortable for me--Panne said. In a wedding rush manner, we almost ran through the hallway to avoid getting late--since the citizens had been waiting outside.

Not gonna lie; the running around and slight panic were rather thrilling.

Turned out, before the citizens, the personnel of the Castle had waited first in the courtyard. The moment I stepped out of the huge double door, I saw them all filling the field and the hallway--faces I hadn’t seen for so long since I moved to the Lair. Smiling faces, sparkling eyes, and cheers. More people looking happy for my happy days.

No! No crying yet, Val. Not now!

Arta led me to Natha, who was standing beside the open carriage. He looked at me without blinking, and only opened his mouth when I was a few steps away.

"Fuck..."

My Lord! Husband! Jade was there!
