Chapter 415: A bit of spice is needed before a wedding

I looked at the pristine, beautiful white card in Zarfa’s hand quietly, and then turned to look at Natha. He was smiling relaxedly, and as I kept looking at him, his expression crumbled. He stared at me blankly, confusedly, and I hit his arm hard.

Tsk--he should have shown it to me first!

He blinked, still in confusion, and I hit him again. Jade was chirping in surprise, but joining me to kick Natha with its little feet.

"Uhh...sweetheart?" Natha didn’t stop me from hitting him--he never did, not like he felt anything by it anyway--but he was confused. And yet, I was so annoyed that I didn’t feel like explaining it to him.

"Umm...did you show this to him before, Doc?" Zarfa, who was scooting away from us along with Aina, asked curiously.

"No? Oh..."

I hit him again for the last time, since he seemed to finally get it now. I retreated, crossed my arms, and puffed my cheeks in annoyance.

[Jade have no idea what happen, but Nightmare is in the wrong!]

That’s right! He was in the wrong!

How could he show our wedding invitation to someone else first?! How could I know after someone else?! How preposterous!

"Umm...maybe we should go for now?" Zarfa laughed nervously and then scurried off with Aina.

Natha let out a sigh and walked around the couch. "Sweetheart," he crouched and rubbed my thigh. "I’m sorry. I didn’t know this meant so much to you, and--" he exhaled heavily and shook his head. "No--no matter what, it’s still my fault. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t do that. I should talk to you about everything since this is our wedding."

"That’s right, this is our wedding," I pursed my lips, still a bit annoyed. But the sincere gaze he got me in that grey eyes and more delicate human face got to me harder.

"Yes, it’s my fault," he nodded. "Will you let me hold your hand?"

Uhh...he looked at me so sadly that my arms moved before my mouth could say yes. He held my hands gently and kissed them hard, as if to show me how much he felt sorry.

"I’m sorry, yeah? I’ve never had a wedding before, so..."

The corner of my lips twitched by itself and he smiled at how my angry face broke. "You should at least let me be the one who gave them the invitation."

"You’re right," he kissed my hand again, and as he held them, I could feel his palm getting colder.

Oh...was he afraid of something? Was he afraid I would be so angry and called off the wedding?

"I won’t call off the wedding just because of this," I told him teasingly, but he let out a relief breath anyway.

He looked up and asked me in a careful tone, as if wanted to make sure. "May I kiss you, then?"

I took Jade in my hand and covered the little bird’s eyes. "Sure."

He stood up and kissed me, softly, as if he was afraid of breaking me. When he pulled away, he spent a minute or so just stroking my cheek. "I’ll share all things about our wedding from now on."

All things? Well...uhh...

"The essential is fine," I replied swiftly. I didn’t think I’d have the stomach to hear about all of the guests he would invite to the banquets on the second day onwards. "Umm...is that the invitation for everyone?"

"No, just for the first day," he said. "That’s why it’s white."

"Oh..." I let go of the squirming Jade and fiddled with his green pendant again.

"I’ll show you the rest of them when you’re back home," he kissed my forehead, and I couldn’t help the smile break across my face at the word ’home’.

Ah, it made me realize how much I missed our home. I clutched his back and sighed into his embrace. No matter how annoyed I was before, it was still hard letting him go, even though I knew I’d be back home and see him tomorrow. I probably spent about ten minutes after that just looking out of the window, in the direction of the Demon Realm, fiddling with the black feather he left behind.

"Oh, you look better," Zarfa grinned as I got out of my room.

"I’m just a little annoyed, that’s all," I shrugged.

"Well, it’s nice to know your relationship is just like any other people’s," she chuckled and hugged my arm as we went down for some breakfast.

"What do you think my relationship was like, anyway? Initially..."

"I don’t know," she shrugged. "Just...he looked so scary and imposing before--much more than I thought he would be, but probably because he was jealous or something. Anyway, I kind of worried about your power dynamics or whatever, but you looked completely happy so I just thought eh, everything seems fine."

Huh...I never thought about power dynamics or anything within our relationship--perhaps because Natha never put me in a position where I would need to worry about that? Well...I was glad that thing was cleared off. Perhaps Zarfa didn’t think I would be able to freely get sulky or hit him like that, which was understandable knowing he was a Demon Lord.

"But anyway! That wedding invitation is sooo~ gorgeous!" she held my arm tighter and gave me a toothy grin. "I’m so going to frame it after your wedding."

"Hey, that’s embarrassing," I scratched my neck awkwardly, but also couldn’t help the big smile I had on my face. "Thanks, though..."

Zarfa giggled and whispered then. "That means you will come to my wedding if I have it someday, right?"

"Get a partner first before talking about that."

"Eh, they’ll come one day. You have a longer lifespan than me, anyway."

Our laughter echoed in the corridor, and before we stepped down the stairs, I finally made my decision. "Hey, Ceci..."

Zarfa turned her head to look at me seriously. Perhaps she knew that me using her old name meant I was going to say something serious and...secretive.

"There’s something I want to tell you," I grabbed the black pendant on my neck and rubbed it. "About my child."

* * *

I ended up telling her about Shwa--about everything. From the reason I was being summoned here, to the seed of Primordial God that was given to Natha. I did it carefully because it might get censored again, but as I thought, nothing happened.

I thought...if there was someone who could understand this thing well without freaking out, it would be her. And if there was someone allowed to know about this aside from me and Natha, it would be her. After all, she was once having visions about this world, and by writing it, she even thought she was the one creating it at the start.

Naturally, I also told her about how we would need to make a vessel for Shwa and that we’d do it like a dryad would.

It wasn’t exactly the right time to do a whole exposition, because we had to find a secluded corner to talk about it, and no matter how well she received it, the story took quite some time to be digested, and we ended up very late for breakfast. But it also felt like the right time, with me having to go back tomorrow, and who knows...maybe I would forget to tell her if it wasn’t then.

"Phew...that’s...wow..." she breathed heavily while patting her cheek before we entered the dining room. "That’s heavier than I thought--or should I say grander? Damn...isn’t it essentially like...preventing the world from destruction?"

Oh...that’s right. I guess...I only focused on the ’having a child’ part? Hehe...

"That’s like...even grander than what Jin is supposed to do, isn’t it?" she gasped.

"Technically, we don’t even know what it is he is supposed to do exactly," I shrugged.

"Based on your theory, isn’t he supposed to find the Goddess or something?"

"That’s just a theory."

"Eh, whatever. But again, wow..." she took a deep breath and clasped her cheeks again, before looking at me with the widest grin and a brilliant gaze. "I’m going to have a nephew! Or niece! Ahahaha!"

She threw her hands up and danced around me while laughing. Jade even followed her and they ended up dancing together with the sounds of laughter and chirping that started to garner people’s attention.

I had to stop them because of that, but the happiness infected me so much that I couldn’t help but smile all day. It made the journey to the next purification site feel smoother, and even the process itself felt easier--despite me having no sleep the night before.

This time, it was on a ruin or something. I had no idea if they had a fight in a ruin or if it became a ruin because of the fight. It was a bit heavier than the mine one, but still very much doable in a day. I purified it leisurely until evening, and by the time I was done, everyone was cheering loudly. Perhaps since Natha wasn’t present anymore, even Fatia jumped and hugged me tightly.

"Let’s have a party!" Zarfa said cheerfully, and that was how I spent another night without sleeping.

Thank Mother I was a druid, huh?
