Chapter 364: Drama is fun if you’re a part of the audience
"What’s the commotion?" I stirred at the vague sounds of chirping and conversation, slipping deeper into the blanket and Natha’s embrace.
"The Elf is here," Natha murmured against my hair, pulling me closer to him by my waist.
I blinked drowsily for a minute, trying to digest the information. My blurry eyes glanced at the window, where the sunlight had just trickled into the room. My head was raised in surprise when my brain registered this. "This early?"
"He came from a bakery or something," Natha pushed me back to the bed, so I laid on top of his bare chest.
"You mean...the bakery that Zia liked?"
"Maybe?"
I whistled and looked toward the door. So that was what he meant by coming here in the morning. Honestly, that bakery was truly good. They were so good that the bread and pastries were usually sold off in an hour or two after the place was open.
"What? Do you want to come down for some bread too?" Natha tilted his head; the silver eyes finally opened.
I grinned and lowered my head to bite on his pecs. "I have my own bread here."
His sleepy eyes became focused then, and I was flipped to my back in an instant. "What is this? My dear bride had become so good at seducing me," he whispered sharply before returning the bite all over my shoulder, pulling out laughter from my lungs.
"Well, if I had to be honest, I just don’t want to disturb them," I shrugged and circled my arms around his neck.
"Hmm..."
"So we have a lot of time alone this morning," sneaking my hands into his hair, I pulled him down and bit his ears. "Since we have more babysitters down there."
"That, I approve," he kissed me once, and suddenly, I was in the air, being carried to the bath chamber. Needless to say, we spend waaay longer time there than usual, playing with...water and such.
Ah, I was reluctant to admit it, but...there was a part of me that thought this situation--where we had to live separately--had a nice aspect to it; like how Natha was getting more honest with his thoughts, or how he got more clingy, or...like this, where his carnal appetite was increasing.
I didn’t even have to beg or give him any rejuvenation spell. Ah..what a dilemma...
Oh, Mother--looked how pervert your son had become!
I wouldn’t tell him that, though--didn’t want to make my Demon Lord sulky again. It was good that he banned himself from reading my thoughts, or he might have misunderstood it again and thought that I was fine with us living separately.
Because the answer was no! Sure, it brought something amazing into our sexual life, but I would still rather wake up looking at his face, feeling safe with his cold arms around me.
Anyway, it was almost midday when we were finally presentable to come out of the suite. They were in the drawing room this time, and Zia was writing another fairy tale for Jade. Izzi, meanwhile, was crouching on the floor binding all of the picture books we had made for Jade, turning them into a real book, not just a pile of sketch papers being tied by strings.
Such a productive ’date’, if it could even be called one.
Knowing their personality, though, I didn’t think they would have made considerable progress. I was sure they already caught on to the fact that both of them might feel something toward each other, but we have someone whose experience in love came from fantasy, and someone who probably never courted another person before, so...
Still, I don’t think they would take five decades like the ones in the Castle. In this case, we could send our gratitude to Jade the wing...bird?
"Master!" Jade ran from Zia’s side to jump into my arms the moment I stepped foot inside the drawing room. "Why Master take so long?"
"Ahem--I...overslept?"
I heard Izzi snorted from the floor, even though his hands were still moving to bind the papers together. I saw that he even made a nice leather cover for the books, so I would have praised him if it wasn’t for the sound he made earlier.
"How early did you wake up today, Izzi?" I tilted my head, asking dryly as I glanced at the basket which was already half-empty now.
Izzi coughed and grumbled, before getting back to his book-binding. To get the best products that Zia liked, he would have to go to the plaza at the crack of dawn, so he would be ahead in the queue. For someone who preferred to sleep at dawn, it would mean that he was forgoing sleeping altogether.
Pretty sweet of him, honestly, and I could see that it was effective, seeing Zia’s reddened ears.
That being said...
"I just...couldn’t fall asleep and decided to go around the city," he mumbled quietly. "It’s not like I go out of my way to buy it..."
See? He would never admit it, this stupid guy.
"Oh? What a disappointment," I scoffed while taking a seat around a tea table so I could get my very late brunch. "And here I thought you were trying to do something nice for Zia."
Izzi flinched and the tools in his hands clattered to the ground. "Th-that’s...I mean...well, uhh..." he looked at Zia and me back and forth as if his brain was being fried while deciding between avoiding any accusation of him having a crush and not making Zia displeased at his intention.
In the end, it was Zia who scolded me with a flustered face. "Val!"
I just stuck out my tongue and pretended to ignore them. Hmm...now I know why others liked to tease me so much; it was indeed fun teasing other people about this kind of thing. I hid my giggle behind Jade’s confused head, and Natha ruffled my hair slightly before picking Jade off of my lap.
"You have quite a mischievous side, huh?" he said quietly while putting the annoyed Jade on another chair. "Don’t disturb your Master when he’s eating."
At Natha’s words, Jade pressed his lips and nodded, sitting calmly on his slightly elevated chair while watching Angwi put down our brunch spread on the table.
"Well, I learned from the others," I shrugged and grinned sheepishly. "But Jade, did you morph again today, or you haven’t changed back since yesterday?"
"Jade not change back!" the little boy threw his arms in the air cheerfully. "Master gave Jade lots of yummy balls when Aunty here, so Jade have lots of power!"
"Oh! Good boy!" I ruffled the green head and pulled his chair closer so Jade wouldn’t be so far away. The little boy giggled proudly, which he totally deserved!
The first time Jade changed into human form, he could only maintain it for a few hours, before falling into a deep sleep for the rest of the day. I did observe that the time Jade needed to maintain that form was getting longer and longer, but this would be the time he managed to last through the night. What an excellent child!
"Right--I shouldn’t lose to Jade, right?" I clenched my fists to energize myself. "I need to work harder so I can keep the focused state longer!"
Last night, I was practicing the way to control--ahem--substances inside my body by trying to fuse my essence with Natha’s after he released his seed inside me. And I realized a fatal flaw in this whole plan;
I had to do it with a dazzled mind that was battling the highest level of pleasure.
At the peak of the high, my nerves were tingling all over, and I could hardly think of anything but Natha’s name. How on earth could I concentrate enough to fuse our essence?
Ah...the road wasn’t covered in thorns, but it was sure slippery as hell.
Perhaps sensing my disappointment, Jade curled his fingers to follow my move and pumped his little fist in the air. "Master, go go!"
I couldn’t help but laugh at the adorable display, and once again pumped my spirit. "Mm!"
"Easy there," Natha chuckled and tapped the center of the table, where our food had been left untouched. "Fill yourself with energy first before attempting anything, yeah?"
I grinned and swiftly dug into the food. Since I skipped breakfast, it should be alright to stuff myself now, right? After all, I was also spending the whole night...umm, exercising, in some way. And I had to feed my greedy unborn child before coming down earlier, so I was famished!
"You know..." I pondered while munching on my brunch. "People say sparring could enhance one’s concentration," I looked at Natha and spoke carefully. "Should I...go back to train with the Castle’s soldier?"
I felt Alveitya buzzed inside my left arm, but I told the spear to not get excited. Natha sometimes tended to get extra protective of me, to the point that he couldn’t even pierce my ears with his own hand. There was always a possibility that he no longer wanted me to fight.
But then, he nodded without hesitation. "Sure."
"Oh?"
That was unexpected. He didn’t even pretend to mull it over? Was his protective era over now?
"You’ll come to the Castle more often that way," he said with a shrug. Pfft--this demon. And then, he added with a smile. "Besides, I know our soldiers are not good enough to hurt you."
Hey, even if it’s true, you shouldn’t diss your own people, my Lord!
