Chapter 334: a bride always needs an emotional support system

I looked at the water in fascination, observing the way the dark hair floated around Natha’s face. He looked peaceful there, underwater, away from all the voices in the world, away from the screaming thoughts.

The silver eyes opened slowly, and he pulled himself up to the surface, pressing his smiling lips onto mine. The silver eyes were as bright as a full moon, and he looked strangely at ease this morning.

Mother, he was so beautiful.

"Why don’t you build a pool here?" I asked, slipping myself back into his lap as he leaned back against the side of the tub.

"We have a perfectly nice lake,"

"Oh, right!" I clapped my hand and scolded my foolish memory. "But...we never use it?"

"Do you want to?" Natha raised his brow.

I scratched my cheek and replied sheepishly. "Well...you look nice in the water."

"I see," he tilted his head, lips curled up on one side. "So you want to have sex in the water."

I coughed, choked on my own saliva. But we were naked in the tub after a night full of pleasure, so was there any need to hide it? I looked at him through my eyelashes, voice came down to a whisper. "Can we?"

Natha chuckled. "Now? In winter?"

"Well..."

I mean...with our constitution, we wouldn’t get cold anyway.

Natha laughed and pulled me closer, brushing our lips together in a light kiss. "What an insatiable little mink."

"...so?"

"Are you planning to fill the time before moving to the Lair with sex?"

Honestly...I wouldn’t say no to that.

Natha held the back of my head and peppered my face with gentle kisses. "If you want to have underwater sex, then we might as well do it in a more beautiful scenery, don’t you think?"

"What do you mean?"

"The sea," he whispered. "Let’s do it under the sea on our honeymoon."

"H-honeymoon...!"

I pulled away from him with burning ears and cheeks, prompting his laughter to reverberate in the stone tile of the bathroom. "How could you still feel shy about a honeymoon after coaxing me to have sex in the lake?"

"It’s...it’s just..." I pressed my lips, feeling my whole skin burn. I swallowed and leaned forward, whispering in his ears after much hesitation. "I heard...we’re supposed to...consummate our marriage all the time on a honeymoon."

Natha turned his head away and covered his mouth, stifling his laugh so much that his shoulder started to shake. My cheeks burned even more and I asked again in embarrassment. "I...it’s not?"

"Oh, no; it is," he nodded with a deep smile. "It’s supposed to be a time for the newly wedded couple to consummate their marriage, and...tasted each other’s honey, I supposed."

I let out a small gasp. "Is...is that what it means?"

"Oh yeah," Natha leaned back in ponder. "I’m quite surprised that our worlds have a similar concept of activity to celebrate one’s wedding, even calling it the same. Although...I supposed on Earth it came from drinking meads for a whole month?"

"Meads?" I tilted my head. "Ah! It is made from honey!"

"Mm, real honey."

The way he said ’real’ made me blush, suddenly. So, I was right to presume that the ’honey’ he referred to in this world was...umm...our honey? The one we made inside our body?

"Yours doesn’t taste like honey, though..." I patted my lips, recalling the taste I had earlier. "It’s more like yogurt."

Natha bis his lips and lowered his head. From the way his back was shaking, I guessed he was laughing again. Geez--is it that funny?

"Why are you laughing?" I pursed my lips and smacked him lightly.

Instead of replying, Natha circled his arms on my back and pulled me against his chest, sighing against his neck. "Ah, God...you’re just adorable."

Why?

"But anyway, tradition said it that we do it during the night," he continued. "With the moon as our witness."

"Oh...I guess that’s what happened with the Queen’s parents too?"

"Perhaps," Natha nodded. "But during the day, the honey we drank should be each other’s promises," he continued. "Meaning, we should also talk about what we’re going to do after the wedding, what our married life going to be like. It’s a chance for a couple to deepen their bond when there are just the two of them, away from family and friends to influence their decision."

Oh...so it wasn’t just sex. Hmph--those courtesans lie to me! But his words caught my attention.

"Just...the two of them?"

He smiled; a satisfied smile as if I finally asked the truly important part. "Just the two of us," his whisper echoed in the steamy chamber. "We’ll go to a seaside cabin, on an island where only we could set our feet in. We’ll bring our own groceries, and take care of our own needs."

"But...I can’t cook," I whispered dejectedly.

Natha chuckled, pinching my cheek softly. "Your job, as usual, is to eat, sweetheart."

I let out another soft gasp. "You’ll cook? I can...I can eat your cooking?"

He raised his brows. "You’re that excited?"

"Yeah?" my heart was beating loudly, even more so than the time we talked about honey and whatnot. A picture was forming in my mind, and before I knew it, I had already blurted out. "Then...then I’ll clean around the cabin. I’ll learn cleaning spells, and I’ll tidy it up so we can eat comfortably."

"You’d do that?" he smiled and squeezed my cheeks the way I would do Jade. Even with the pressure on my face, I couldn’t hold back the giggle coming out of my pursed lips.

"It’s like...we’re a married couple."

Natha’s laugh was a vibration across my skin. "Well, we are," he kissed my cheek. "We will be."

* * *

"You look more cheerful than I thought you would be," Zia tilted her head as we waited for the servants to pack my belongings. "Must have been a good night."

"The bestest!" I squeezed Jade’s plump birdie cheeks.

Well, at least until our...ahem, honeymoon, I thought.

[Hngg...Master don’t even give Jade a good night...]

"I’m sorry, Jade," I kissed the bird’s head as an apology. "But you look jolly well with Lesta this morning."

I had thought my little bird would spend the night with Zia, but Jade came back to the Lord’s quarters with Lesta during breakfast.

[Darkie say he want Jade there so Whitey will stop talking about living together]

A gasp slipped between my lips. I looked around to make sure no one was around except Zia, and we huddled together with the bird in the middle. "So Eruha wants to live together with Lesta?"

This time, the gasp came out of Zia.

[Ngg! Whitey follow Darkie everywhere! And Darkie say...umm...]

"Yes, yes, what did Lesta say?"

The little bird swayed from side to side, trying to recall its little adventure with the eternal couple. [Darkie say it not pra...pracal...]

"It’s not practical?"

[Practical!]

"Hmm..." Zia, through the sheer self-learning of understanding our incomplete conversation, deduced things by herself. "Perhaps he’s talking about how easier it is for them to live here where they work? Lesta does have a lot of work, and he does it in a particular way."

"You mean, if they live together, they will live outside of the Castle?"

"Well, it’s not like there’s a family suite here," Zia shrugged. "Even the servants who are married live outside."

"Oh..."

Wow...hearing this kind of information made me think how...peculiar my relationship was.

[Oh! Oh!] Jade jumped up and down to attract our attention. [Darkie also say he can’t leave sisters!]

"Ah..." the soft exclaim came out together from me and Zia.

Leaning back on the couch, I started to wonder if it was a good thing that I didn’t have family. Well...not the close one anyway. While the druids were my family, they imposed their customs because it was needed for me to enter Alzeriya. But I kind of wondered, should we still have direct families, would they become a factor in our relationship? Would they oppose it? Would they tell us we shan’t live together before we were wed?

"Zia," I patted the little bird and turned toward the succubus whose eyes glinting in the full drive of...inspiration, probably. "Do you think...do you think the way we do things is weird? Me and Natha, I mean..."

Zia blinked and was about to grin, but upon seeing my expression, she made a serious face and scooted closer. "Well, Val...I wouldn’t think the way you’re doing things is...conventional," she said, and added swiftly. "I mean, how many people could say they followed a demon for a deal in marriage, fell in love, and got married for real?"

"Not many, I guess?" I grinned sheepishly.

"If there’s a lot of people experiencing that, I wouldn’t be interested in writing your love story," she scoffed. "But back to your case, it’s indeed not something you’ll find in every season of tea and scandal. People usually meet and have a few dates before they get into a relationship, do they? And even then, should they decide to live together, they’ll wait for some time, or until they are sure they’ll be getting married."

"I don’t know much about how people do relationships," I said. Well, apart from what I saw in movies and dramas I watched in the hospital--and I reckoned that wasn’t a particularly good source. Still...

"But I think so, yeah," I nodded.

"But you’re like...your order is all wrong," she laughed.

"No, no--we do meet first," I argued. Those two months in the hospital. "And we weren’t live together--technically--until...well, we’re in a more affectionate relationship, if I must say."

Zia smiled at my argument. "Then why do you think it’s weird?"

"I don’t think it’s weird, I just want to know if you think it’s...unusual," I pursed my lips.

"But is it wrong to be unusual?" she pressed her finger on my surprised nose. "Don’t you know, Val, that the greatest love stories oftentimes are unusual?"

I blinked once, before cupping my blushing cheeks. "You said it as if we have the greatest love story or something."

"Silly boy," she flicked my forehead lightly. "Every love story is the greatest story for their protagonist."

Oh...

"So you shouldn’t pay too much attention to what people think about your relationship," she scoffed. "It’s not like we’re the ones who experience it--oh, and you two are full of secrets anyway. I wouldn’t know that you’ve met before if you didn’t tell me about your previous life!"

I bit my lips and pulled her into my embrace. "Thank you, Zia."

She laughed and hugged me back, prompting Jade to jump onto my shoulder and join the group hug. "If we’re on Earth, I’d make you a maid of honor already."

Zia pulled away and blinked. "What’s that?"

The purple eyes were full of sparkles.
