Chapter 249: Who said a Nightmare couldn’t be cute?

I thought, after my blatant protest over the topic, and after Lesta told Arta to work, they would stop the conversation. Little did I know that the conversation only getting deeper, now with extra snacks and drinks and a paper in front of Arta.

"But what kind of outfit would you like for the wedding, Young Master? I need to design it now so we have time for details later," she said, starting to draw something before I even answered.

"What...design?"

"It should be white,"

I snapped my head toward the low voice that could only be coming from none other than the Demon Lord. "Nat?"

What was this, my Lord? Why were you participating now? You said it was just to let them have fun earlier!

Glancing at my dumbfounded expression, Natha smiled and repeated. "I’d like to see him in white."

"Dat dat da raa~ dat dat da raa~" Izzi moved his arms in the air as if playing a wedding tune on a piano, and I hurled the last three of my popcorn toward him.

"Go back to your tower!"

"Green is nice too, isn’t it? And this light blue is also beautiful," Zia was suddenly on my side tugging on my sleeve, while Jade jumped from her shoulder to my lap.

"Well, of course we would have several colors. It won’t be nice if Young Master doesn’t change at all during all the days, right?" Arta smirked while jotting down things--probably all those colors they mentioned.

I turned to look at Natha again. "Days?"

"It’s a celebration, so of course we will have a few days of party," Natha said nonchalantly. "We will have guests from every corner of the realm, including the realm of nature, so we have to divide the days carefully to not crowd the venue."

I bet the sound of me gulping nervously could be heard clearly. I mean...days of social convention in which I would be the main character? Was this some kind of new torture tool for introverts?

Would my mental strength be enough for that?!

"Don’t worry, we don’t have to be there all the time," Natha patted my head and caressed my hair. "We only need to be there at the start to greet the guests and retreat after."

Oh, thank Mother! I had no idea if I could withstand days of social interactions with strangers. One or two hours was okay, I think, if Natha was there.

While I was having a meltdown from the scale of this event, Arta continued to make some scribbles and rough drafts. "Well, Young Master is good in anything, so..."

[Flowers!] Jade, who was climbing on my shoulder, suddenly pecked my hair to reach for the snowflake petals woven there.

"Flowers would be nice," Zia said, understanding what Jade was saying. Wait, now my little bird was also on it? Zia then proceeded to caress the little bird. "Oh, wouldn’t it be beautiful to have something like a tail? The colorful one..."

Arta clasped her hands, and immediately made a long-ass note on her paper, which prompted a sigh to come out between my lips. What kind of outfit were they trying to make with all those colors and tails and whatever?

But Jade was chirping joyfully at the thought that my outfit would somehow look like him, and I had no heart to protest anymore after that.

Oh, fine. Just have fun, then.

"Are you uncomfortable?" Natha asked that night, when he heard me sighing again while I changed to my nightshirt.

"No, it’s just...embarrassing," I shook my head, and as I turned around, I caught the look in Natha’s eyes, which contained a slight disappointment. Swiftly, I walked over to grab his hands and fiddle with his fingers nervously. "Umm, truly--it’s not that I don’t want to talk about the...wedding, but..."

"But you’re shy," he smiled, taking my hand and pulling me to the chaise near the wall of the dressing room.

"Ugh--"

"It’s okay, I understand," he laughed softly, sitting down on the chaise and pulling me to sit with him so he could braid my hair.

I sighed again as I felt his fingers combing my hair. "Please don’t misunderstand, okay? I don’t want you to think that I have second thoughts or anything, it’s just..." he paused, and I squeezed the end of my shirt, continued in a quieter voice. "...fast," I said, almost in a whisper. "I feel a bit flustered."

I didn’t need to back it up with any proof because I was sure my nape and ears would be bright red. Perhaps that was why I could feel Natha’s lips on the back of my neck, cold upon my flushed skin. "It’s fine, we can just do this slowly," he said in a gentle tone while getting back on braiding my hair. "Didn’t I say you’re free to decide when? You can choose to do it tomorrow, next week, next month, even next year,"

I bit my lips and sheepishly turned my head slightly to glance at him. "What if I can’t feel ready even after a decade?"

Again, his hand stopped, and I could see the corner of his eye twitching. "...it’s...fine, I guess..." he said, in a restrained voice and slightly clenched jaw.

I laughed and turned around on his lap, shaking my head slightly. "No, it won’t be that long," I stroked his tensing jaw, which gradually relaxed at my words. "I just...need to calm down and stop being flustered first."

He bonked my forehead with his own head, softly, and I laughed again while he finished tying the end of my braid. As he did so, my eyes fell on the green jewel peeking out of his nightrobe. "I’d like to see Amarein and the other druid and let them know."

Ha raised his brow and tilted his head. "You want to ask for permission?"

"No, I just don’t want to have someone suddenly objecting to our...marriage...someday," even as I said it, I could feel my face getting hotter and hotter. Simply talking about wedding and marriage was enough to turn me into a boiled crab. It was like when the courtesans talked to me about sex before.

Well, I got over getting flustered about sex talk, so...I should be able to get over this one too.

I shook my head and smacked my cheeks lightly to stop myself from getting cooked by my own embarrassment. Let’s get back on track, alright? So I looked up and came back to the thing about telling the druids. "They are my kin, and it would be nice if they also come to the, umm, wedding...right?"

Especially after the help they gave us regarding this trial. It shouldn’t be an easy thing, to make a declaration about terminating a diplomatic relationship like that, even if it was only for a ploy. Both Issa and Amarein must convince their own Council of this, including acknowledging my name.

Natha leaned down to kiss me and smiled, much brighter this time. "Yes, that would be nice."

We moved to the bedroom with a lighter heart, and I was no longer thinking too much about how enthusiastic people were about our wedding--which was still far away--or how many days it might take. But talking about the druids reminded me of something.

"What about your...umm...what about your kin?" I asked Natha, rubbing the back of his hand with my thumb.

Natha tilted his head, and after mulling over it for a bit, he shrugged casually. "Well, if we invite Lust, they’re basically my kin."

I bit my lips and asked something that perhaps I should have asked from a long time ago. "Is all your family..."

He looked at my hesitated face and patted my head while smiling. "There’s my Great Aunt, but she never gets out of her mansion unless His Majesty calls for her."

"Oh," I let out a relieved breath that I didn’t know had been stuck in my throat. So his family wasn’t totally gone, but was it only the Great Aunt? I remembered her as the one who took care of Natha after the massacre and took him to the Sanctuary. "You’re not going to tell her?"

"She would have already read about it from the paper," Natha smirked, pulling the blanket and told me to climb to the bed. "And if she wants to be invited, she’ll tell me."

Huh...I had no idea if I should call it casual or distant.

"Is it weird?"

I climbed to the bed and leaned on the pile of pillows, shrugging. "Maybe? I don’t know much about family. I mean...I only remember Grandpa and Grandma, so..."

The memory of my parents was vague, perhaps because they hadn’t had much impact on my life before they perished. My relatives, on the other hand, either avoided me or antagonized me--and later after I became an adult, they started to try and get closer to me for Grandpa’s inheritance.

"I wish I could meet them," Natha stroked my cheek, looking genuinely regretful. "I want to thank them for taking care of you."

"Yeah..." I sighed and shuffled beneath the blanket to get closer to him. "I wondered...I wondered if my grandma got reincarnated or something. It’d be nice if she could go back to the land she loved so much..."

"You can ask the Goddess when you meet her," Natha shrugged.

"Right!" I nodded, recalling Her promise that we would meet again. "I better make notes of everything I want to ask. I had to think so hard when I met Lord An’Hyang because it was unexpected."

Natha leaned back on the headrest while stroking my head, the silver eyes looking at the ceiling in wonder. "I still can’t believe you talk like that to Him..."

"Well, I mean...I need to know!" I pursed my lips, but then remembered that unlike me, Natha was a demon who worshipped Him. I reached up to cup his cheek and asked worriedly. "Uhh...is it blasphemous? Are you upset?"

"If it is, He wouldn’t answer it, don’t you think?"

He said that, but Natha was still looking at the ceiling instead of me. So I couldn’t help but narrow my eyes and asked again. "But are you upset?"

Natha did not answer until about half a minute later. "No, just a bit...envious."

I blinked and looked at the slight blush on his blue cheek. "Of me?"

I parted my lips, still dumbfounded that Natha actually got jealous about the fact that I was the one who conversed with Lord An’Hyang and not him. I laughed and squeezed his cheek, kissing his face until he tackled me to the mattress, filling the room with the sound of my laughter.
