Chapter 230: The bed of snow always contained a lot of wonderful things

I felt like the rest of Eruha’s lesson before the year’s end revolved around Natha’s assets.

After the overview session during that first one, he went to explain each one each day. I even had a feeling that if Natha wasn’t in his separation anxiety mode, Eruha would bring me to the companies or banks Natha owned.

But Natha didn’t want me to go anywhere again, so we even had the lesson in the small library beside his office that was accessible through a connecting door. And if we got too quiet because I was concentrating on his flabbergasting wealth, he would peek his head into the room to check up on me.

It was kind of excessive, right? But don’t you think it was endearing too?

Natha had always been this imposing, perfect figure in my eyes. He was handsome and older, wealthy and could do anything. He was like a prince charming, your dream billionaire-CEO boyfriend that could manhandled you one second and coddled you in the next.

But the more I knew him, especially after everything was revealed that he was indeed that doctor I met in the past, it was like...his hidden side came up more. No, no--not his hidden side. His...youthful side? His personality when he was young; the one who was stubborn, petty, curious, and filled with insecurity.

Rather than feeling stuffy because of his clinginess, I found that it made me feel less like a child in front of an adult. It made me feel like we were equal; equally silly when we were in love. Equally worried, equally hopeful.

It was wonderful.

Oh, Natha was also there when I had to go through another fitting with Arta and the seamstresses.

Thankfully, this time, it wasn’t as long as the one before the banquet. They already had my basic measurement; they just need to make a change on some of my widening area. Hmm...it was only two months but it seemed like I already gained weight.

Anyway, the clothes also simpler this time. After all, it was for the blessing ceremony. As a half-human half-druid, I wouldn’t participate in the ceremony, since the blessing was only for demons. But I would still participate in the community banquet and all the meetings Natha would have, so I should still looked the part.

It would be a ceremonial robe in simple black color and thin line of embroidery on the hem. No elaborate pattern or style, because it was supposed to be a humble event. The only thing that was sort of luxurious-looking would be the sash to fasten the robe; it would be gold in color and adorned with a brooch and cords with tassels. I was told that the sash represented the status of the people wearing it, so it was important to wear the color that matched their status.

Which made me rather blush since they gave me the same color with Natha.

Unbeknownst to me, Natha had prepared two kind of brooch for us from I don’t know when. One of them had a silver diamond, and another one adorned with a green jewel. It was like he wanted to tell the whole realm that we were engaged or something.

Wait--perhaps he was?

Eruha stopped the lesson three days before New Year, just in time when the snow in the Castle’s yard was thick enough for us to play with. I waited like a good boy all morning, and the moment lunch break came, I beg Natha to go out and play with the snow.

Yes, I knew we played before. But it was just playing with falling snow, and I only got to do it for a short time before he proposed. It was wholly different from this beautiful bed of piling snow!

Well, it was beautiful for me. Probably not so much for the gardeners who had to work hard clearing the walking path.

But snow!!

"Jade, let’s make a snowman!"

[snowman? Master make snow alive?]

"No, no, we’ll just make a doll," I explained. I mean...that was it, right? I never made one before, so...

I crouched down and made a snowball big enough for Jade to stand on top of it, and told the little bird to stand there. "Jade, ride this ball to that shrub and come back."

[Jade run on the ball?]

"Yes, yes, run backward, okay? Push the ball forward--go!"

The little bird was confused, but still did what I told it to do. Moving the tiny feet on the ball, Jade ran and the ball rolled on the bed of snow, getting bigger and bigger. [Master, ball get bigger!!] Jade chirped loudly when it realized.

"Yes, Jade! Good child! Keep going! Go go go!"

I watched Jade run on top of the ball excitedly, laughing and chirping because it felt like a game to the little bird. In fact, Jade was so excited that when I told the bird to come back, it didn’t do it right away. [Master, this fun! Jade will make it bigger!]

And the little bird truly trying to make it bigger--bigger than I intended it to be, until it was almost a meter wide. No, no, not too big, Jade, not too big! Come back now!"

I had to yell a few times and ran after the little bird until Jade finally turned around and I stopped the ball from moving. It was more than a meter wide now, almost as big as me. Jade was looking like a miniature decoration bird above the ball--I had no idea where did this little bird had the strength to move the ball.

[Big Ball! It’s fun!] Jade jumped energetically on top of the giant ball, chirping cheerfully.

Well, seemed like the little bird still had more strength to make another ball.

This time, I followed Jade to control the size of the ball, and we brought the smaller ball to the bigger one, sticking it together. The bird’s green head tilted in confusion at the structure, and I laughed while going into a hunt for branches and scattered seeds. As I started to put the ’eyes’ and then the ’hands’, Jade jumped and chirped loudly.

[Snowman! Snowman!]

"Yep, yep," I nodded in satisfaction and took out a long scarf I fished out of the closet this morning the moment I saw the bed of snow after waking up. After wrapping the scarf and adding some big seeds as buttons, I stepped back and stretched out my arms. "Tadaaa!"

Jade chirped joyfully and we ran around the big ass snowman that was bigger than me. It was crude and simple, but it was my first-ever snowman, so it was the best snowman ever in my eyes.

"You like it that much?" Natha caught me mid-run and I giggled against his chest.

"Of course!" I laughed and reached up to press my palms on his cheeks. "I had been dreaming of doing this for a long long time!"

"Good for you," He smiled and stroked my arms, kissing my cold palm. No, I did not wear gloves. The contract with Ignis--who chose to perch atop the garden lamp to prevent itself from melting the snow--kept my internal temperature balanced.

I giggled again and looked around at the relatively empty yard. "Hmm...what do people in demon realm do with the snow? Do they make snowmen too?"

"No," he said, reaching out his hand toward the untouched bed of snow. "This is what they do,"

"Oh..."

I followed his hand and gasped as the snow swirled and started to turn into tangible shapes of rabbits, squirrels, hedgehogs, and other animals I didn’t know the name of. And it wasn’t just statues; the figures wriggled and started to move!

All hail world of magic!

"Oh, Mother!" I slapped my cheeks and sighed as those small snow animals hopped and scampered all around the field, and Jade shrieked excitedly as one of the rabbits came to me and nudged my legs. I crouched down and scooped the rabbit, which continued to nudge my hand. "Nat, they’re so pretty..."

"I’m glad you think so," Natha patted my head. He watched me poke the rabbit’s cheek silently, and when he opened his mouth again, his voice was rather distant. "There were days, in the past, when I got frustrated because I was unable to do this."

I blinked and looked up, staring at his bitter smile as he continued. "I wanted to make the rabbit hop into the ledge of your window," he waved his hand and the snow swirled again up to the air, prompting Jade to gasp when they turned into birds--

"I wanted to send the bird,"

--and waved his hand more and this time, beautiful white butterflies flew around me--

"...and the butterflies to come inside and play with you,"

My eyes fluttered at the bird that landed on my shoulder and the butterfly perched on the tip of my finger.

"You couldn’t go out, so I wanted to bring them in," Natha said. "But I couldn’t. I was inside a human with no magic power."

I turned to look at him, biting my lips. "I’m...I was happy enough I could talk to you," I told him.

He smiled and kissed my forehead, before shifting his gaze to Jade who was chasing the flying snowbirds. "But I was also glad that I was just a human," he said.

"...why?"

"Because at that time, I was no one," he shrugged, lips curled in smirk. "I had no past, no history, no baggage. I had no magic, and I couldn’t even read your mind to know what you were feeling,"

Oh, right. It must have been weird. He probably felt powerless without his magic, itchy without his mana, defenseless without knowing what people think after living all his life with that. But at that point, he probably wanted to escape that life; to stop hearing people’s thoughts, to stop hearing people’s scorns, to stop being a pure-blood demon with alpha seed that made some chase after his life and some coveted his future.

He took my hand and we started to walk with all the small snow animals following us. "I was just a man, who always wondered what you were thinking about me, wondered if you liked me too," he looked at me and flashed a cheeky smile. "I keep thinking of things to say to make you laugh, to make you blush, to make you pout..."

I smacked him--just lightly--and he laughed before looking forward again, exhaling in contentment. "Honestly, it was all...liberating," he smiled. "And so, so wonderful,"

He stopped and turned toward me, holding my cheeks and stroking the flesh beneath my glazed eyes. Because I had no idea if I should be flustered or crying or both. With a sweet smile, he whispered. "You are so wonderful."

The butterflies on my shoulder scattered as I wrapped my arms around his neck and tiptoed to kiss him, and kissed him, and kissed him again. By Gods--yes.

Yes. It’s wonderful.
