Chapter 219: Look at me enjoying my sugar baby life

Since I had told them anyway, I let Izzi and Zia stay when Angwi called for Doun and the twin guards to the lounge.

Might as well; made it easier for me to hand out the souvenir I got from the trip. I took out the boxes I had sorted out with Angwi’s help, and laid them all above the rug in the middle of the room, as if we were having an indoor picnic.

Which wasn’t so wrong with how many snacks I brought here. The pile of snacks, for now, had become Jade’s bed as the little bird rolled around the packaging. If there was something crushed there, it was all this bird’s fault.

The twin guards, Urhe and Arha, still stood by the door even though I told them this was a casual meeting. But they were still adamant about their guarding role, which reminded me of the Chief Guard back in the Lord Castle, Haikal.

So, with a sigh, I took out a small box. It was thick and secured well, because the content was quite fragile. "So you don’t want the souvenir I got for you?" I pursed my lips and opened the box, where two identical vials were lying snuggly inside. "I put so much care into ordering this back in U’nung..."

After a second delay, the twins almost came sliding in front of me, sitting on their knees like obedient children waiting for a treat. "We’re sorry, Young Master! Please bestow us your gift!"

In an exaggerated manner--at least it was exaggerated in my eyes--they raised their palms in front of their bowing head. I put the vials in their hands, one for each twin, and when they raised their head, they stared at the vials without blinking.

"This is..." Urhe parted his lips, but nothing came out of his mouth anymore.

"Are you sure...we can accept this, Young Master?" Arha asked slowly, carefully, and they both looked at me with worry, but also anticipation.

I could see that they really, really wanted this vial--or rather the content inside. It was an essence of three thousand different ingredients, mixed and brewed and aged for a couple of years before it was ready. Not many were produced in a year, but there were some in the auction that I visited with Arta in the western city of U’nung.

The effect was simple; it amplified one’s physical and magical abilities. It was like a dopping that gave you a permanent buff with no side effects. In a game term, it was like getting a potion that increased your stats and skills proficiency permanently.

So, of course, they would want it.

But they also act so carefully, perhaps because it was that precious. They probably think it was just a test to see how greedy they were.

Pfft--so weird. Weren’t they working for the Lord of Greed anyway?

"I put them directly in your hands--is it likely that I thought you can’t have it?" I told them while crossing my arms, and they clutched the vials as if they were worried I would take those back from getting offended.

"It’s...so expensive, though..."

Well, yeah...it was a limited-quantity concoction that could only be acquired through auction, or if you knew the maker personally. I had to say it was one of the most expensive things on my shopping list, but you know what--you had to invest in your security to strengthen your home.

"It’s fine. Just look at it as your end-of-the-year bonuses," I told them. "Besides, who do you think I am?" I patted my chest and raised my brow. "I’m the Lord of Greed’s bride. This much expense is nothing."

And I truly meant it. I bought all the gifts with that card Natha gave me which contained my ’allowance’ money, which always received new funds every ten days, even if I didn’t use it. I already purchased a lot of materials for Izzi’s research, and bought all of these gifts, but it hardly made a dent in my account.

Perhaps because all the expenses that were made for me--my clothes, accessories, even books and other necessities--were being paid by Natha’s personal account instead of the card in my possession. Although technically, both were Natha’s money.

So...what else would I use this allowance money for if not for this?

I gave them a scoff and got attacked from the back by Zia’s hug. She laughed and tickled me--when I was trying to act cool! How traitorous!

"Oh my, oh my--look at you proudly announcing yourself as his bride," she tickled my waist and pinched my cheek until I laughed and squirmed on the rug. "You used to think his gifts are too much too, didn’t you? Look at you enjoying spending his money now~"

"Aah--stop it!" I twisted my body and squirmed away from the succubus’ mischievous ministration. "What’s wrong with that?"

"Nothi~ng," she grinned widely, but still poked at my side. "I just want to say it’s nice seeing you embracing your life like that," she giggled.

"Embracing your sugar baby life, more like..." Izzi remarked.

I looked at the elf and asked him with a raised brow and a smirk. "Jealous?"

"Who doesn’t want money?" the elf shrugged, and I threw him a box, which he caught with a start.

"It’s not money, but..."

Izzi opened the box impatiently, and raised his brow at the pocket knife inside. It wasn’t just a pocket knife, though; it was made of mithril and could change shape to a myriad of tools. As someone who tinkered with a lot of things, Izzi recognized its function immediately, and stared at it without blinking.

"I got it from the drows I met in the northern Oasis," I told him, and Ignis perked up when a place close to its origin was mentioned. "Talking about drows--here, Doun," I pulled out a big package and called for the gardener to take it.

The twins shuffled back to admire their vials, and Doun took their place. It truly had been a while since I saw him, and we were high-fiving first before I put the package in his hands. "As I said, I met several drows there, and they made their own tools for adventuring. I asked them if they could make another set for me to buy, and they accepted my order."

Doun widened his eyes, but different from Izzi, he peeled the package carefully, as if he didn’t want to damage even the wrapper. There was a leather vest there--identical to what the drows wore. The vest had a lot of hidden compartments. And fitted with tools they would use to traverse hard terrains, since most of them lived in underground caves.

When I heard the story of their adventures after all those dancing and merriment, I was reminded of our gardener back in the Lair. Doun was a half-drow, but he never visited the realm of nature, since it was his grandmother who decided to go over to the demon realm and have a new life here. In a sense, he was just like me.

"Oh..." Doun stroked the leather vest adoringly and looked at me with glittering eyes. "Thank you, Young Master."

Ah...perhaps I should bring him with me when I visit the realm of nature in the future.

"I’m glad you like it," I grinned widely. "I really can’t thank you enough for your notes regarding the druids. It helped me so much, you know."

The gardener laughed cheerfully, clutching the drow’s vest close to his chest. "I’m glad I could be of help to you, Young Master."

"Me! What about mine? Where’s my souvenir?" Zia hugged me from the back again, hanging over my shoulder.

"Here, I get you all the romance books I could get that came from other realms," I dragged a box to my lap. "I want to get you some clothes, but I couldn’t find any for succubus."

"Oh, it’s fine, I always made my own clothes anyway," Zia laughed merrily. Well, clothes with slots for wings weren’t common outside the realm of lust. "Thank you, Val."

She pecked my cheek and grabbed the box and excitedly rummaged through the books. I made sure to take any titles that I hadn’t seen in the library or Zia’s bedroom, so they all would be new for her.

"But I bought a lot of pretty fabrics so you can make new clothes with Angwi for the New Year," I told her with a grin. The fabrics were also my souvenirs for Angwi, and I had told her this before when she was helping me sort the stuff. Zia looked up, blinking, before jumping to squeeze my cheek while laughing again.

"Aww--why are you being so generous, huh? Do you want to bribe me or something, you cutie?"

I groaned and shook my head to escape her hands, but Jade jumped into the fray and snuggled against my cheek too, thinking we were playing around. Well, we did play around, and we ended up rolling on the rug, making a mess of the piling snacks and other trinkets I bought as decoration for the Lair, giggling like children.

Haa...it was fun. Seeing the smile on their faces was fun. This was why people gave gifts, wasn’t it? To see other’s smiles? It was nice knowing that I could make them happy in some way. I had never realized how happy it made me feel to be surrounded by smiles and happy faces; things I couldn’t quite experience in my previous life.

Well, money might not be able to buy happiness, but it sure could buy things that make us happy. And even then...you had to have the people you want to make happy first. I would say I also had a lot of money in my previous life, but people...friends and close relatives...they were almost a foreign concept for me.

Was this why Natha insisted on paying for my stuff even though he had already given me a generous allowance? Did it make him happy? The thought of that put another smile on my face and made me giggle.

"So, is this a bribe or not?" Zia flipped to her stomach and poked my cheek.

Looking at the ceiling, I took a deep breath and kept this swelling happiness in the precious corner of my heart--the corner filled with bright and delightful stuff that kept getting bigger and bigger.

But now, we had to talk about something serious.

"Well...it’s not a bribe, but..." I turned my head toward the other demons in the room. "I do need your help."
