Chapter 206: Make sure to leave your child to a trustworthy babysitter while having your honeymoon
"They’re not going to come out today too, huh?" Opti looked in the direction of the bedroom gallery after they had their breakfast.
The last time they saw the Lord and his pretty bride was during two dinners ago. A whole day had passed and now, as they flew across the rich southern plateau toward the volcanic mountain range, the couple still hadn’t emerged from their bedroom. The servants and Panne, who went there yesterday morning to deliver their Master’s morning drink, found the door--and the whole bedroom itself--clad in isolation barrier.
Well, no need for a genius to know what was going on inside.
"It’s not a rut, right?" Caba asked worriedly; whether he was worried about the Lord or the human-druid, no one knew.
"There’ll be a whole different kind of barriers if that’s the case," Lesta shook his head, before adding with a smirk. "I don’t think they’ll move at all until we reached the volcano."
"Wild," Opti chuckled. "What would happen during their real honeymoon if it’s like this already?"
That remark put the vassals in a sudden silence as they ponder this matter.
"You know...despite calling Young Master his bride, His Lordship never mentioned any wedding plan," Lesta, who was the one accompanying the Lord the most among the vassals, told them with a slight frown. "It wasn’t like him to never prepared for this thing, even if it only happens in the far future."
"Hmm..." Opti leaned back in his chair until the legs of it lifted off the floor, taking advantage of their Lord’s absence to be a bit playful. "Somehow, they’ve been acting like a newly formed couple these past few weeks, don’t you think?"
It was surprising enough when their Lord suddenly told them about taking the Priest of Judgment as his bride. They had steeled themselves to face harsh backlash, confusing themselves about how to face this human. Some of them had been working behind the scene by the Lord’s order to make everything conducive for the human’s arrival; from security measures to public propaganda.
But nothing--nothing prepared them to see their Lord’s eyes filled with so much love and affection, worry and rage. Their cold, calm, unfazed Lord was now pampering his bride non-stop. If they were together, the Lord’s gaze would never leave the human. If his hands were idle, they would almost always touch the human; holding the fair hand, on the small waist, across the shoulder, through the dark, long hair. He wouldn’t touch his meal until he made sure the human ate. He wouldn’t touch his glass until he made sure the human drank. His attention would always be, first and foremost, toward his lovely bride.
Even when they weren’t together, the vassals would sometimes find the Lord making a brooding face, mumbling the human’s name--the new name; Valen. After many decades of serving the Lord, they finally saw him being impatient to finish his work, just so he could see his awaiting lover as soon as he could.
"It’s like they are starting their relationship all over again," Opti laughed. "Perhaps that’s why? Maybe His Lordship wants Young Master to be completely ready first,"
"Right after that long coma, huh," Lesta tilted his head left and right, tapping on his crossed arms. "He’d been acting like he was afraid Young Master will vanish from thin air."
"His Lordship did look like he would end the world and then himself at that time," Caba commented, and their mind automatically conjured up memories from those two days of hell before the Lord decided to whisk himself over to the realm of nature.
Remembering that moment made them shudder again from an intangible cold.
"Stop chatting! We have another problem for now!" Dhuarta, who had been out of the conversation earlier suddenly yelled from the side. In her hands was a plump, colorful elemental bird wailing loudly.
[Jade want to see Master!]
The little bird, who had been waiting restlessly for a whole day and night yesterday, couldn’t take it anymore. It remembered the three days its Master lay down motionless, and now, the Master had also restricted their mind connection for some reason. The little bird could still feel its Master’s soul and life force, but it could no longer send or receive any thought.
Is Master happy? Is Master sad? It was unsettling for the bird to lose that information.
The little bird struggled inside the demon’s hold, and almost managed to escape before Caba helped Dhuarta hold the bird back--they’d be dead if the bird lost its innocence because of their negligence.
"Wait, wait, wait--you can’t go yet, Sir Jade!" the two vassals tried to hold the little bird without hurting it, which proved to be a hard thing to do when the elemental bird started to use mana.
[Jade want Master!!]
"Jade wants to see Valen," the Salamander interpreted from the breakfast table.
"I can see that well enough," Lesta chuckled, and proceeded to call for the little bird. If Jade would listen to someone other than the human, then it would be its candy provider Lesta. "Jade, come here."
At Lesta’s voice, the bird ceased its struggle and flew slowly toward the demon, landing on Lesta’s palm with a sad-sounding chirp.
"Do you want to see your Master?"
[Ung...] It was a pitiful sound akin to an abandoned child.
"Why?" Lesta asked patiently.
[Because Jade miss Master...]
"Jade misses Valen," again, Ignis interpreted for them.
Lesta smiled; a gentle one, unlike his usual smile. He patted the sad little bird on his palm while speaking softly. "His Lordship also the same," he said. "He misses your Master, because he’d been so busy the past week."
The little bird slowly looked up, the beady eyes blinked at the demon’s explanation.
"Isn’t that why you had been able to spend a lot of time playing with your Master every day?"
[Oh...]
The slumped wings slowly gain some strength, and the green eyes no longer look as depressed as before. With a wider smile, Lesta continued. "So now, give a chance to His Lordship, yes? You can play with us instead, alright?"
The beady eyes blinked repeatedly for a bit, and the little gecko hopped into Lesta’s arm, patting the green head. After looking back and forth between Ignis and Lesta, also the vassals who were nodding in affirmation with wide smiles, the little bird finally nodded.
[Okay!]
Finally, the chirping sound was back to its usual high tone instead of the sad whimpering from before.
"Good," Lesta patted the little bird again, before putting the plump colorful ball of feathers on the table. "Young Master will be so proud of you for being so mature."
The bird turned around with a gasp. [Jade mature?]
Leata smirked and nodded. "Yes, like a proper adult."
[!!]
As if there was an exclamation mark on its head, the bird jumped around and, together with the Salamander, huddled and giggled in the corner--almost as if it was already forgotten about its Master’s absence.
Dhuarta let out a long sigh and patted her twin’s shoulder. "You’re a certified babysitter now."
"Bird-sitter," Opti corrected.
* * *
On the third day, the Master emerged. "Jade!!"
[Master!]
A high pitch, mirthful chirping filled the cabin lounge with the emergence of the lovely figure, looking as beautiful as always, and even more energetic than usual. The green eyes shone brightly like a pair of emeralds, and he welcomed the little bird’s tackle with open arms and cheerful laughter.
"Have you been good? Do you miss me?"
[Yes!]
The master and familiar hugged each other as if they hadn’t met for three weeks instead of three days. The elemental bird was on the verge of sulking, but seeing the cheerful Master and the happiness seeping into its soul, the bird forgot all of its loneliness.
The Salamander, who quietly jumped on the human-druid’s shoulder, remarked in a dry tone. "I’m not."
"Yes, yes, I miss you too, Ignis,"
While the Salamander mumbled about how that’s not what it said at all, the little bird was busy bragging. [Jade is good. Jade wait patient like adult!]
"Patiently," the Master corrected.
[Jade wait patiently like proper adult!]
"Yes, yes, good boy!"
With a joyful laugh, the Master had a lovely reunion with his little companions while the vassals watched intriguingly.
"He looks so...energetic," Caba commented with wonder.
"I have to admit this is unexpected," Dhuarta said while glancing at another person who also graced them with his presence at long last.
"That it is His Lordship that would come up looking like he just came back from a battlefield?" Opti chuckled, blatantly smirking at his Lord. "Yeah, that’s unexpected."
The vassals turned to look at the Lord who was leaning on the couch with an arm covering his eyes, listless and clearly exhausted.
"Druids," the Nightmare spoke, the low energy level made his voice sound like a growl. "Have natural rejuvenation,"
When his lovely bride asked for a whole night of sexual activity, Natha was more than excited to comply. Who wouldn’t, when their lover saying it with a blushing face and fluttering lashes out of embarrassment? A lover that until last week was still a total virgin.
They did it until the sun rises, and did it again in the bath chamber. Which was fine and fun. But after a short rest, that lovely, just-graduated virgin lover seduced him again, shyly asking for another round. And another. And another.
Like a new adventurer, his innocent lover was eager to explore everything. Everything. It was the curiosity that Natha remembered from the man’s previous life, from night after night of questions. It was just that the questions now changed into something more physical and sensual.
In front of this eager lover, his pride did not allow him to stop, and when they woke up on the third morning, he felt like he had used up all of the energy he saved for winter. On the other hand, Valen looked extremely refreshed, the druid gene worked wonders in restoring his energy. It was also why the seemingly fragile man could last for many many many rounds with peak excitement.
Unknowingly, Natha had woken up this lovely monster of coexisting innocence and promiscuity.
"Pfft--" Lesta stifled his laugh unsuccessfully. "He sucked you dry, huh?"
With a sharp glare, Natha sneered at his right-hand man. "Yeah? Like it won’t be the same with you once you get back?"
Lesta paused, blinking hard as he was suddenly filled with forgotten dread.
"Mm, a month-long thirst," Dhuarta leaned back on her chair and licked her lips. "Delicious,"
Lesta slapped his twin hard, although his complexion was getting paler.
"Hey!"
"Ugh," the usually calm demon started to sweat and looked pleadingly to his Lord--the Lord he just teased. "Can’t you like...sending me on a mission somewhere, my Lord?"
"And prolonging the thirst? You really want to be sucked dry?" Natha smirked, feeling better now that he had someone else to tease.
With a mischievous giggle, Dhuarta and Opti patted the groaning Lesta in fake consolation.
