Chapter 175: I didn’t ask for this weird big sister
"Now, Honey, let’s go have some tea with my friends," she said with a very nice smile, pulling me gently but insistently after we were done bidding goodbye to Natha who had to meet with the important people of this city.
It wasn’t like I had anything to do, so I just let her bring me further into the mansion. "Ah, the one who lived here too?"
"Uh-huh," she replied with a small chuckle, and I could hear Arta let out a sigh behind me, which got me even more curious.
Who exactly were these people? It seemed like Natha used to visit them in the past, but for what purposes? Business?
She brought me through the hallway, into what seemed to be a wide drawing room. Though the weather had grown colder as the winter was approaching, the door connecting the room to the garden was opened. I took a chance to observe the room, and if I didn’t know better, I would think the house owner was this fox, whose name turned out to be Rubha. It was decorated in a way that someone with a minimalistic style like Natha wouldn’t like. It was pretty though, somewhat eclectic, and felt warm.
"Honey, come quickly before the tea gets cold," the fox waved and pulled me again since I was stopping right before the door.
I hurriedly followed her and stepped into the field of neatly trimmed grass. There was a beautiful white rotunda surrounded by autumn flowers, beneath the shade of a big tree that was towering over the yard. Even from the distance, I could see a number of demons, and heard the sound of their laughter.
Since it seemed like we were going to gather in a small space, I told Ignis and Jade to go have some adventures by themselves around the estate, because the Salamander’s body heat might caused problem for the others.
As we were getting closer, the laughter stopped and was replaced by a sudden sound of squeal. I saw them waving, six demons in total; two had animal ears just like Rubha, one was a succubus, and the other three I couldn’t identify. But there was something in common that they share; just like Rubha, they were all pretty and alluring, both male and female alike. Some wore thin, quite revealing clothes even though it was cold. But even the one who wore a fur coat had them made in vibrant colors and intricate design--very vocal, if I must say.
"Oh-ho, so this is the sweetheart," one of them, the one with cat ears and tail, commented the moment I was closed enough that I could pick them apart easily.
Uhh...it was embarrassing enough when Natha called me that in front of others. But hearing it came from another’s mouth? Awkward.
"Uh-huh," the succubus leaned sideways on the chaize she sat on. "He does look like a sweetheart."
How was a sweetheart even looked? I was too overwhelmed as they all looked at me and cluttered around that I stood speechless. One of them, a short male demon, looked at me and let out a long sigh before sitting back in his chair.
"Haa...I wanted to whine so much, but I can’t do it now."
"Well, yeah," another one with fluffy-looking rabbit ears said as she hopped on the rotunda’s railing and leaned into the pillar. "I mean, I understand why His Lordship never visits us again if this cutie pie is by his side."
More and more similar comments were getting thrown as I listened to them in a daze. They talked about how clear my skin was, how lustrous my hair was, how brilliant my eyes were, and other things that I didn’t want to divulge because it embarrassed me so much. They only stopped when Arta scolded them and told them to back off while leading me to one of the chairs.
I, who was still in a daze, suddenly had this thought as I gasped a little bit; was this...actually...Natha’s harem?
At my little gasp, Arta leaned down and whispered in my ears. "Whatever you’re thinking right now, it’s not true, Young Master, I can assure you."
How could you know that it wasn’t true when you didn’t even know what I was thinking about? I tilted my head and looked at Arta dubiously. I mean...it was very fitting, wasn’t it? I remembered that at some point, I did think that Natha would have a harem somewhere while putting me in the Lair. I was actually more surprised that he didn’t have one because I knew polygamy was normal in this world.
When Arta whispered that at me, I vaguely realized that the table, which had some tea and snacks prepared on it, went quiet for a while. When I shifted my gaze back at them, I felt like I caught some of them smiling mysteriously. But it might be my imagination too because it has immediately gone just a second after.
"Ah...how long has it been?" when I was pondering about this, someone suddenly said from the side, making a drawn-out voice as they looked up as if trying to recall something.
"Isn’t it during his last rut?" another one followed.
They were talking about his rut? Natha visited them the last time he was in a rut?
"Ah...yes, should be about three years ago, right?" the cat-girl replied with a playful smile that was very suitable with her face.
Oh, if it was three years ago, then that was not his last rut, right? Since the last one happened just a few months ago, the one where he almost ’attacked’ me.
Arta, who had been following the conversation with a smile, spoke out. "Hey--"
"Oh, gosh--how many people had to serve him that week?" this time, it was the tall male who seemed to be a half-demon. "It was so chaotic--"
"Hey!" Arta called out louder, harsher this time, and tapped into the armrest to make more emphasis.
They stopped talking then, but still giggled in a coquettish way, looking at each other and glancing at me as if they were waiting for my reaction. Perhaps they did?
"Umm, so..." I started to respond because they seemed like they wanted me to. "You’re the ones who’ve been helping him with his rut?"
The rabbit girl giggled. "Well, someone has to, right?"
"I see..."
I looked down at the steaming tea in front of me, pondering this new information. Arta, meanwhile, shifted closer to me and touched my arm.
"Umm, Young Master, it’s not--" she paused, thinking for a bit before starting another sentence. "His Lordship had never visited them again after meeting you. Even in his last rut--"
"I know," I told her as calmly as possible, because right now, it seemed like it was Arta that went into panic.
"Hmm? His Lordship had a rut again? It’s not the time yet, though..." Rubha, who had been keeping her silence with a deep smile earlier, now commented in surprise. And then, the hazel eyes turned to me and her lips curled. "Oh, my..."
Ah, it seemed she realized--perhaps from my lack of confusion--that the last time Natha had rut, I was there to witness it. Although...I had a feeling that her ’oh, my’ contained something more.
"Young Master..."
"It’s hard, isn’t it?" I looked at the giggling demons, who were instantly stopped when I talked to them. And then I looked at Arta, who was raising her brows in surprise. "He looked so miserable the last time,"
"Well..." Arta shifted awkwardly in her seat. Since Natha didn’t spend his last rut in this mansion, he must have been in the Lord Castle at that time.
No, no, I wasn’t suspecting her or whatever. But, from Natha’s brief iteration about it, his rut seemed to make him almost lose his rationality. He was so afraid he would hurt me that he looked as if he was just waking up from a nightmare when he pulled away that night. I recalled how feverish he felt, even though normally, he couldn’t even reach my normal temperature.
I searched about it for a bit after he told me, but all I could find was the fact that the more he suppressed it, the more it would feel painful.
So I guessed, these people helped him relieve that urge, which would multiply tremendously during his rut that it would hurt him physically and mentally if go unfulfilled.
I looked at the demons again, including Rubha, whose gaze had changed to amusement as she looked at me. "Thank you, for helping him go through his rut."
It was already quiet before, but after I said that, it almost seemed like even stopped breathing. Brows raised and eyes widened, they looked at me with flabbergasted looks, until the silence broke by the fox.
"Pfft--ahahahaha!" Rubha laughed in her chair, so much that her whole body was shaking. "Oh, God--seems like you guys failed."
"Truly..." the halfling sighed. "The Lord’s sweetheart sure is different," he said while looking at me with a smile--warmer now, and felt more genuine.
I realized then that the way they smiled and looked at me was now different, as if they were all had been acting to deceive me or something. Wait...could it be that they deliberately talked about Natha’s rut to see how I would react? To bait me?
I had no idea whether they did it to test me, or if they just wanted to mess with me, but either way, I pursed my lips and huffed.
"Honey is such a cutie pie," Rubha, who sat beside me, leaned closer and cradled my face, rubbing my cheek they way I usually did to Jade. "You make this big sister want to spoil you."
"No spoiling!"
