Chapter 133: I doubt a world that let kids go to war would have pshyciatrist
"Why? I thought it was a pretty legitimate question,"
I threw my confusion to the people on the research floor, which had become kind of our meeting point now, rather than the library. Why? Because we could bring food without getting side-eyed by the Master Librarian. Lesta also liked it because he could sleep here, although Eruha didn’t care much--but the vampire did appreciate the possibility of sipping his tea while teaching me.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I couldn’t fathom why those lust demons looked at me as if I wasn’t right in the head. Granted, I never saw this Lord of Lust who was supposedly the best-looking demon there was, but still...
"Natha is very handsome," I muttered in slight annoyance. It felt like they were judging my taste by that reaction, and I had a mind to criticize Zia later; how dare she talked about true love and whatnot with those judging eyes.
Izzi, still scribbling the enchantment tool design, just looked up slightly from his notebook before going back to his work. Fortunately, Lesta had a bit more interest in responding to me.
"Objectively speaking...I couldn’t say anything about that," he shrugged, which wasn’t really helping my confusion at all.
"Why?"
"Because, Young Master, only you can witness His Lordship’s...full glory," Lesta gave me an awkward smile at his struggle to find the right words.
And I was still confused. "What do you mean?"
"Because he shields you from his inherent trait," Eruha kindly explained, as usual. "It’s hard to see someone’s attractiveness when you’re constantly sensing your fear in front of them."
And then, Lesta also added with a smile. "So, even if His Lordship turned out to be the most beautiful creature in the world, it’s hard to discern him as so."
"Huh..."
"On the other hand, Lust Demons in general had the opposite trait; they had an inherent trait that makes them appear to be very charming...alluring--making them more desirable, basically," Lesta continued. "So even the most basic incubi would appear to be attractive."
Ah, I see. It was like...magic makeup? Glowing aura? It was like a charm stat in video games, huh?
So that was why they looked at me weirdly? Because they couldn’t understand how I found Natha attractive. Or rather, they could see that Natha was handsome, maybe, but they couldn’t see why I thought no one would top him. Especially because I compared him to the Lord of Lust, who was supposed to be the most charming of them all.
I had no idea if I should feel bad because they could not comprehend how great Natha was in the looks department, or if I should be glad that I was the only one who could see it. I guessed it was kind of nice, that I could feel a little bit special.
But then again, it wasn’t like I never saw his scary side. And I had seen him being scary to other people. And it didn’t make me think he was less attractive. Should I...be concerned that I found his scary side to be attractive too? Should I seek someone? Was there a psychiatrist in this world?
As I struggled with this sudden horrid thought, Izzi suddenly chimed in. "Where I come from, there are people who found scary people to be attractive," he stared at me, lips forming a cheeky smirk and brow wiggling suggestively. "Maybe you’re one of them, Boss."
I had to admit I gasped slightly at that prospect. Were you exposing my kink?
"What are you talking about? You came from Etherziel," Lesta turned around and looked at the elf strangely. "Your King is still scared of Lord Natha to this day."
Welp--what are you gonna do, Elf-boy? You almost exposed the fact that you weren’t actually from this world.
When I was wondering what Izzi would say, the elf actually took the best approach; ignored the slip-up completely, and proceeded to do his favorite activity: dissing the elves. "It’s because that King is a coward!"
"That’s your King,"
"I’m an exile," Izzi scoffed. "I have no King, thank you very much."
Solid argument, not gonna lie. But it got me wondering about another topic that I had been curious about: Elves.
"That’s the first time I heard about the Elven King being scared of Natha," I looked at Lesta, the one who mentioned it. I remembered then that he actually used to live in Elven territory. "Is there where you used to live?"
"Yep," Lesta nodded, and for a while, his gaze became distant, probably because he was reminiscing about his past. He smiled, and then smirked as he shifted his gaze back at me. "You remembered that His Lordship was visiting the palace, right?"
I nodded, pulling a pillow into my chest as Lesta continued his story. "His Lordship was yet to be crowned a Lord at that time, so what reason would a King easily accept a demon to his palace and even treated him like an honored guest?"
Hmm...interesting. I leaned forward and whispered in response. "Blackmail?"
Lesta winked as an answer. "Imagined getting blackmailed by someone who radiates fear like His Lordship,"
"Sounds traumatizing..." I nodded in understanding. Although, the real question was probably on why did Natha need to blackmail an elven king in the first place. "Does it sour their relationship?"
"Not really," Lesta shrugged. "Just that he doesn’t really want to meet His Lordship if he can help it."
"I see..." I nodded again, before pausing as another question popped up in my mind. "What about the elf delegations?"
"Ah, the ones who’ll meet you tomorrow are from different Elvendom," Lesta explained. "Etherziel is situated in a mountainous area. The ones who you’ll meet tomorrow are from Sarteriel."
"Ugh--Sarterian..." Izzi groaned from the side, shuddering slightly in disgust.
"Why? What’s wrong?"
Lesta laughed before answering with a smirk. "Izzi only has a debt problem with his hometown, but the one who accused him of blasphemy is actually Sarteriel."
"Overly devout bastards!" the elf grumbled.
I parted my lips in shock. "You had beef with two kingdoms?"
No wonder this elf had to run away from the realm of nature. And if I knew anything, religious beef had always been more complicated and headache-inducing than financial one, because they were harder to be reasoned with.
And how bold it was, that Natha took Izzi here while entertaining Sarteriel delegations at the same time. I found this hilarious; I couldn’t decide whether he wanted to screw Izzi or just wanted to secretly mocked the elves.
"So...were they behaved differently from each other?" I turned around to face Eruha, who was most likely to give me an accurate, educational answer.
"In some way," the vampire took off his glasses--those intellectual aesthetic thingy--and closed my homework book. "Etherziel, while situated in a mountain, is a borderland kingdom. They see more traffic from other races, and generally more...open."
"Generally," Izzi made quotation marks with his fingers, sneering mockingly.
As I threw an inquisitive stare at Eruha, the vampire explained accordingly. "Elves are generally a devotee of the Goddess Apheriel, and very proud of it, like a preacher," and then, out of nowhere, he fished out a rather thick book and sent it to my lap. As expected, it was something about the Elvendoms. "There’s a sense of superiority in them because Apheriel, while being a deity in charge of nature, is also known as the Sun Goddess."
"Ah...because the mark of the sun is an elf’s symbol?" and by that, I meant the light blonde color of their hair and the golden eyes.
"Exactly," Eruha waved his hand and the book in my lap opened to a certain page talking about elf’s history. "They have a profound sense of beauty that is very specific to their race, so it’s rather hard for them to accept other cultural differences, because they are very strict to their own acquired standard."
"In conclusion, they are just a bunch of stuck-up elitists," Izzi scoffed.
"You have a very low evaluation for your own kind," Lesta chuckled amusedly at Izzi.
"They’re not my kind," Izzi mumbled disgruntedly.
Boy, you really weren’t trying to be subtle, huh? Why didn’t you just tell us that laser thing came from another world while at it?
"That being said, Sarterians lived closer to the forest, so they are rather fond of the druid tribes," Eruha continued, ignoring Izzi’s suspicious remark. I felt like they decided to just gloss over whatever Izzi said and chalked it up as him being weird. At this point, it was such a nice trick, like hiding in plain sight. "Which is why they want to meet you, Young Master."
"Because I’m part druid, huh?" I recalled their enthusiastic face when they saw Jade, and how it seemed like they were eager to talk to me that time. Perhaps because of that, they didn’t feel as stuck-up as Izzi complained. They just looked...solemn and elegant, I think.
I looked down at the book that Eruha gave me and lightly skimmed over the content. "What do you think they want to talk to me about?"
"Well..." Lesta hesitated for a while. "Just how you’re faring, generally? His Lordship did ask them about providing a connection with a druid to look for your teacher, so maybe that too,"
"Or maybe they just want to see if you’re not being brainwashed by the Lord," Izzi said with a chuckle, and would probably be funny if it wasn’t for Eruha and Lesta responding to it with silence.
Both Izzi and I looked up to see their wordless, suspicious smile, and raised our brow at the same time.
"For real?!"
