Chapter 120: That time I got transmigrated to another world and became a trust fund sugar baby
Unfortunately, the call for dinner prevented me to provide a decent reward for a sequel.
But then again, I only asked about the reason his father was called a traitor, and I already got the answer. Phew...seemed like authoritative scums were everywhere, be it in the human realm or the demon realm.
It was true then, that absolute power corrupts absolutely.
"Hmm...but Natha..." when I stared at the pink and purple jelly on Jade’s plate, something suddenly came to my mind. "Isn’t that mean...you’re essentially the one that puts the current Lord on his seat?"
"No, technically it was the previous Lord, the current Lord’s father,"
"Oh..."
Was that why Zia ran away to Natha’s place? He must have tremendous power over the realm of lust’s household. Thinking about how he screwed over the Lord of Pride and put the lich under constant supervision, and how he was the one who arranged the tournament to pick the new Lord of Wrath...
Why did I feel like he also had his hands somehow on the other realms? Hmm...as I stared at the pattern over his skin, I could feel that fate always found its bearer. All the tales were like the making of a King. I was sure that Lust, Pride, and Wrath would hand over their Lord Keys should Natha ask for them--perhaps not all willingly, but it was hard denying a request from someone who held your debt in his hands.
Hmm...yes--money maketh the world or whatever.
"Ah, right," Natha suddenly exclaimed in the middle of my scenario-making. "Malta told me your personal chambers have been completed."
Personal chambers? Oh--the research lab and training field!
"I would like to take you there myself, but I have a conference with foreign contingents tomorrow," he said with slight disappointment as he took my hand. "Forgive me, sweetheart."
"It’s fine, you don’t have to always baby me, you know..."
He chuckled and brushed my lips in response, tilting his head so he could peer at my eyes better. "You looked disappointed, though?"
"I-I’m not!"
[Don’t bully Master!] Jade jumped off its jelly and pecked the hand that Natha used to hold mine.
"We need to do something about this brat’s behavior," Natha narrowed his eyes at Jade, and they started their staring contest again, hurling insults toward each other in their mind.
I let them be this time, since it diverted the topic and attention, sparing me from further embarrassment from being found out.
Fine--so I was disappointed. Just slightly. I mean...I knew I said that I don’t want Natha to continue spoiling me. It would be unbecoming for the Lord to continuously neglected his governing duty just to indulge his lover. But still...I also wished Natha would be the one who showed me that room, since he was the one who designed and paid for it. Since it was the rooms that he prepared for me.
But, oh well. As I said, I couldn’t keep letting Natha spoil me, or I would turn into a selfish lover that held him back. Nope. Absolutely didn’t want that to happen.
So the next day, I walked out of the Lord’s private quarters with Malta, who would show me the way. I was also followed by three demons; the guards that had been assigned to me from the start, and Panne that officially been appointed as my attendant while I stayed here.
"His Lordship would like to provide you with the utmost privacy, but we also considered the safety risk, so please don’t be too disappointed with the location, Young Master," Malta told me as we walked to the southern side of the castle.
"Why would I be disappointed?" I tilted my head in confusion. I didn’t even expect to have a private room where I could conduct a more thorough experiment on the failed product, so how could I have the audacity to feel disappointed?
"For safety and containment, we have to put all rooms regarding research and development in one section of the castle," Malta replied with a tone of a company tour guide. "So that means your chamber has to be situated with all of the other research rooms."
She pointed to the entranceway leading to the southern tower of the castle, which was reserved entirely for all manners of research, from magic to alchemy. It was the closest this realm had to a magic tower, spanning thirteen floors up and possibly more down. A long bride corridor connected the research tower to the library from the third floor.
"Of course, you’ll have your own room. But it’s inevitable to come across others using the same building, so you’ll have to excuse us for that, Young Master."
That was it? She thought I would be disappointed because I didn’t have the whole building for myself? Because I had to bump into others? I couldn’t help but raise my brow.
"It’s also to make it easy for you in fetching the materials you would need or put on orders for some. Even though you use your own money, any materials for research and development purposes have to come through the same inspection and are stored in this place together..."
She was still going on about the building and the facilities, but my mind was stuck on one thing; what do you mean by ’my money’, Ma’am? I had none you know...
I wanted to ask her more about that, but at that time, we arrived at the tower’s lobby, and I couldn’t proceed with it. Because I felt so many gazes fell on me then, and became too conscious of them.
Of course, the demons we passed through as we walked also looked at me. But it was an occasional thing, and as usual, they instantly bent their waist and trained their eyes on the floor. But here...it was different.
They didn’t avert their eyes, and kept staring with palpable curiosity in their eyes. They also openly whispered to each other while looking at me, and it kind of make me feel awkward. The gazes were intense, but also bore no hostility. It was blatant curiosity that was only being averted slightly when Malta clapped her hands loudly once to disperse the attention. That being said, not everyone ceased their stare, and I had to endure it until Malta brought us inside the elevator.
"As you can see, most of them acted as they wish. The ones working here mostly only care about their project and nothing else--such as others’ opinions and convenience. But don’t worry, they won’t stare as much after a few times. Today is their first time seeing you, so pardon their...enthusiasm."
"I see..."
Malta looked at me and gave that subtle smile of hers. "If they still do and you feel uncomfortable about it, just say the word. A few threats over their research budget never fail to make them obedient."
Hey, do you want to make me into the bad guy here?
"I don’t mind some eyes, it’s just that earlier was a bit too intense," I told her with a sigh.
"Don’t worry, Young Master. Your guards are here to make sure you’re safe and comfortable. So if you feel like they stare too much, just say the word so they can give a warning," Malta said while glancing toward my two guards; Mohan and Laheer. They nodded firmly and give me a determined gaze.
As expected of Natha’s personal knight guards, they looked reliable and dependable. "Thank you," I told them with a little smile that I finally managed to make after being tensed earlier. "Oh, we’re here?"
The elevator was dinged and stopped just then, hissing open with a whirring sound of activated magic formation. The panel above the door told me that we were on the eighth floor. I expected another round of intense staring as the door slid open, but it was actually empty except for two demons with a clerk uniform, who seemed to be waiting for us in the floor’s lobby.
"Welcome, Young Master!" They greeted in unison, like highly trained receptionists.
But wait--this felt like...
"The entire eighth floor of the tower had always been dedicated to the Lord’s personal use," Malta answered my thought immediately. "Everything on this floor is for you to use, Young Master."
Oh, God, so that was true. No wonder there were lots of decorative plants in the lobby. In fact, the lobby looked as nice as a cozy lounge, something that I wouldn’t expect from a research lab.
"There’s about everything on this floor, from alchemy labs to simplified smithy. These two will help you with the floor’s maintenance, storage, and inventory," Malta pointed toward the two staff, who responded by introducing themselves; the female one was called Theemis and the male one was Zuya. Both of them were imps, of light blue skins, cute pointed ears and tails, as well as petite stature.
"If you need anything from the Lord’s storage, you can ask Zuya to procure it," Malta looked at the male imp, who energetically nodded and curtsied. "Or if you need something that’s not available in the storage, he will take care of your order."
Order...right--she said something about money earlier, which meant I would need money to be able to make an order, but...
"Ah, I almost forget," before I could voice my confusion, Malta took out something from her pocket. A...card?
It was black and rectangular, shaped just like a credit card back on Earth. Only, it was definitely made of a light, magic-conducting metal instead of plastic, and had a line of glowing letters and numbers at the top corner.
When I looked at Malta in confusion, she deftly gave an explanation. "His Lordship asked me to put all your money in a new account with our bank. This might be new, since this system wasn’t used in the human realm, but this is your account card, Young Master. You can see your account information and make payments with this."
...huh?
With a dazed mind, I took the black card Malta gave to me and stared at it blankly. She told me to send my mana into the card so I could see the account information. Once I did, the black surface of the card was filled with the card’s information, which stated the owner of the account (me) and the balance.
"..."
I...better not divulged how much was stored in this account I didn’t even know I had before.
I just knew I could make a whole castle from the most expensive candies for Jade with it.
