Chapter 113: Receiving things for granted is included in the bridal pact, it seems...

"Oh!" Arta exclaimed at the mention of moving in.

Jade, who was usually sensitive about this topic, only glanced up from its jelly bed for the loud voice, but immediately focused on the colorful sweetness again. Now that Jade could follow me everywhere, the bird didn’t mind much about it.

The only thing Jade was a little bit peeved about moving here was that it meant the bird would have to compete with Natha all the time regarding sleeping arrangements.

But anyway...right--I was more excited about Jade’s growth that I totally forgot about this. It seemed like only yesterday we talked about it in the greenhouse. "Well..."

"It’s way earlier than planned, huh?" Natha responded to my hesitation. It wasn’t that I had any apprehension about moving here, it was just...everything felt like it was happening so fast? It was only two weeks ago that I stepped foot in the Castle for the first time. "You underestimated the brat’s growth...or rather, its appetite."

[Jade no brat!] the little bird chirped loudly within its jelly fortress, before continued munching on the seemingly endless jelly.

"Hmm...it’s because Jade was being naughty and eating all the purified mana," I poked its bulging cheek that was filled with jelly. "You glutton. You greedy glutton."

"Well, I have no objection to you living here as soon as possible," Natha replied with a shrug. Was that why he treated Jade to an endless amount of jelly? Was that the reward to make it possible for me to completely move here? He shifted his gaze to the vassals with a smile. "That’s fine, right?"

"Of course!" Arta replied swiftly, with another cheery, loud voice that jolted Jade in surprise. Caba echoed her answer with a quieter voice that didn’t match his image.

"Why do you act like you even care about what we’re going to say, my Lord?" Lesta replied with a mischievous smile. "You’ll make Young Master stay at all costs, anyway."

"I’m trying to be civilized,"

"You just want to look good in front of Young Master and avert his sight from your unsavory trait, don’t you?"

"You just want to be sent to the borderland, don’t you?" Natha raised his brow with a cold smirk, prompting Lesta to press his lips and hide behind a glass of wine with a grin.

Too bad...I would like to know more about that unsavory trait.

"We haven’t finished the training ground and the research chamber, but other than that, we’re ready, my Liege," as usual, the only one we could count on to give a serious answer was Malta. "Young Master’s dressing room should be finished tomorrow."

My what--no, wait, there was something else there. What did she say again? Training ground? Research chamber?

Looking at my confused face, Natha immediately gave me an explanation. "Didn’t you say you need somewhere to train with weapons?"

"Oh...you’ll provide me with that?" I replied with brows raised in surprise.

[!]

I looked at my left arm which suddenly vibrated slightly. It had been a while since Alveitya made a fuss, so I was slightly surprised. Jade, too, who seemed to be able to perceive the Spear now, looked up and jumped into my left hand, nudging the mark on my palm as if trying to talk with the Spear.

Naturally, the other demons stared at me in interest. "Does it get excited?" Natha asked with a smile, and I only nodded affirmatively, because the Spear wanted to get out and I didn’t think a dining room full of demons was a good place to take out a tool that was used to slaughter demons, so I had to suppress this sentient weapon.

"What is?" Arta asked curiously, even leaning to the table, looking at me with sparkling eyes.

Natha, with a mischievous smile, answered casually. "The Spear of Judgment,"

"Hiek!" Arta pulled herself away from the table--away from me. Caba widened his eyes and even though it was subtle, I could see Lesta and Malta tensed up.

But when I blinked my eyes in surprise at their reaction, Arta immediately scrambled to wave her hands and shook her head, looking panicked and apologetic. "N-no, I didn’t mean--it’s not...It’s just a name that invokes fear, Young Master--no, I mean...I’m not saying you’re scary, it’s just..."

She stuttered, much like Caba when he thought I left the Castle because of him. "It’s fine, I understand..."

I mean...I also hated the Spear at first, when I knew it was the one who caused Natha’s wound. So I understood their instinctual aversion. After all, Caba even tried to kill me the first time because of it.

Talking about the bald demon, he was lowering his gaze, although I could see his hardened eyes. Even though he no longer kept resentment toward me, it probably still hard knowing the weapon he hated was essentially in the same room.

"No, it’s not fine," Malta shook her head. "We shouldn’t be surprised about your sacred weapon. It seems that we still lack training, so forgive us, Young Master."

"...uh, okay?" I nodded, but also made another mental note to avoid taking out Alveitya in front of friendly demons.

Natha patted my arm, and nudged Jade away so he could take my hand. "It’s quite unfortunate, but that Spear does have a lethal property for those designated as ’enemy’ by the Master," he rubbed the ownership mark on my palm. "And it has such... a dark history with demons, so..."

"So it means, as long as the Master doesn’t see us as an enemy..." Lesta smiled across from me, letting his words hang in the air.

"It’s not like I’ll just swing it around willy-nilly," I pursed my lips slightly. Yeah, their reaction toward the Spear was understandable, but what made me surprised before was that it felt like they thought I’d just take Alveitya out and let it rampage in the room.

Natha chuckled and caressed the back of my hand. "I know," he smiled sweetly, "You have better control of the Spear too now, so it wouldn’t move by itself even if it has sentience--unless you’re in danger, that is."

Right--I nodded in agreement. Even the Spear’s appearance had changed, looking more like a scepter with a deadly tip. It had been very nice and quiet inside my mana core, unlike the boisterous Jade.

"Anyway, I decided that you’ll need a special place to train, so you won’t have to mind people’s stares," Natha explained to me further. "As for the research room..." he pressed his thumb on my finger pads, stroking them gently. "You’ve been busy tinkering with that weird inventions."

I gasped. "That too?" what other reaction could I give besides that?

But is it alright to provide me with that much space? I could just do that kind of thing anywhere though; in the living room, or bedroom, or my little corner in the greenhouse...

Although I guessed it would be inconvenient if I made a mess in those rooms, huh? That might be why. Even so, preparing all of those just for me...surely there were other things those rooms could be used for--something more substantial than a single man’s hobby.

"Isn’t that rather excessive?" I looked at Natha with a slight frown.

"Hmm...it seems like our Young Master still doesn’t know what kind of person His Lordship was," Lesta suddenly said, looking at me with a deep smile and curled eyes.

It wasn’t just Lesta though; Arta was grinning widely, and even Malta let out a subtle smile. Caba was the only one whose face didn’t change--but it was because the bald demon was suddenly having a staring contest with the little elemental bird, that had been feeling neglected for the last few minutes.

I tilted my head in confusion, and Natha relieved it with a soft chuckle. "I’m not using taxpayer money, don’t worry," he patted my head in reassurance.

"That’s...good?" I replied slowly, still perplexed by the situation. I mean...yeah, it was good that he didn’t use taxpayer money, but that wasn’t really my concern.

I just realized suddenly how much money he must have used just to facilitate this move, just for me to stay here. From the construction of the portal gate to all of these rooms...how much would it cost?

"Yes, don’t worry, Young Master. His Lordship built everything with his own money!"

"Mm, it’s just a chump change for His Lordship," Caba finally decided to give his voice to the discussion.

Chump change, huh--perhaps I should ask Natha how wealthy he actually was one day.

"That’s an exaggeration," Lesta shook his head and sighed. "It’s not just ’chump change’, but it’s indeed not something that will hurt His Lordship’s finance. More importantly, it’s money well spent--right, my Lord?"

"Mm,"

Natha hummed with a casual smile, looking at me with every intention of telling me that the money he spent for me was never a waste.

Gods--I wasn’t a Rapunzel anymore, but a freaking Cinderella, huh?

Here, in this Castle, I was just his bride. His...possession. It felt weird knowing that I would have my own private room; a room I could call my own, built for me. Because even when I was the only one who use the suite in the Lair, it was essentially still Natha’s space, right?

But now...how do I put this; I could have my own mancave?!

Wow...I wouldn’t lie; I was actually so happy that I would kiss Natha if there was no one else at the table.

That being said, it was kind of weird to receive something when I practically did nothing but eat, play, and sleep. It was hard to think that I deserve such treatment, even though I knew Natha did it out of affection.

"Irregardless, there’s nothing excessive about it, unless you decided not to use those rooms," Natha brought my hand up and kissed my knuckles. "Which would mean they become useless."

And then he leaned down, whispering to my ear. "Just learn to get used to receiving something for granted."

"You’ll turn me into a spoiled man..."

"Just as how I want it,"

Damn.

Uhh...well, then...I had no choice but to accept them, I guessed.
