The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician -

Chapter 80: Chapter 81 Boki—
"Put on your bomb suit," Wolf said to Kirie, and then turned to Jiang Shu, "Since you’re here too, Jiang, you might as well come along."
"Eh? What does this have to do with me?" With nothing else going on, Jiang Shu had gotten lazy again, "I..."
"There’s more," Wolf cut in sharply and then glared at him, "What else could you possibly have going on? Your theater doesn’t have any magic shows for you lately, and I might as well keep track of your schedule."
"Uh." Jiang Shu stepped back, shaking his head continuously, "Can’t I be busy without doing magic? I got up too early this morning, I haven’t had my nap, I’m tired, I’m drained."
"...Hurry up, let’s go together," Wolf said, no longer wanting to argue with him.
"Fine, fine, let’s go. I’ve never seen an explosion site anyway," Jiang said helplessly, though he thought of something terrible.
There wouldn’t be an explosion during Tuesday’s magic show, right?
A law-abiding citizen was scared.
Behind him, Kirie had already taken the equipment and packed it into a large bag, tossing it to Wolf, "Here, you carry this."
Wolf slung it over his shoulder and walked out of the lab, "Hurry up, hurry up."
---
Sitting in Wolf’s car, the three of them arrived at the scene, which had already been cordoned off by police officers.
Located at a corner of the street, an explosion had occurred inside a shop that had ceased business. Fortunately, it was in an out-of-the-way location, and there weren’t many customers nearby at the time; otherwise, it wouldn’t have resulted in only one death and one injury.
What made this place special was probably its proximity to District EF.
The store was a charred black mess, still faintly smoking, and a strong burnt smell hit them.
The police officers had entered the shop for a cursory search but had fled the scene as quickly as startled birds upon finding an object that resembled a bomb, prompting an evacuation of the surrounding area.
"I’ll go in and check it out," Wolf said, "Help me with the bomb suit."
Kirie nodded, opened the backpack, and started to assemble the parts.
"A bomb suit... Can it really stop an explosion?" Jiang Shu was somewhat skeptical, as bomb suits in his past life were limited in effectiveness and only really helped preserve a body.
"Of course it can," Kirie looked at him with a weird expression, "Otherwise, what would it be called a bomb suit? I made this, and though it’s quite hefty, it can block much of the explosive’s heat and blast wave."
"Okay," Jiang Shu had nothing else to say and watched as Kirie helped Wolf into the bomb suit.
At the police department, only Wolf and Kirie could be considered well-acquainted, and this was not their first time working together by the looks of it.
Soon, Wolf was fully equipped in the bomb suit.
"Uh," Jiang Shu finally understood exactly what this bomb suit was.
It was a massive egg, slim and elongated in shape, white, and seemingly made of metal.
The bomb suit was made up of many shell fragments, which when assembled, formed a complete unit. Metal structures connected the shell pieces on Wolf’s limbs and head.
"The shell has detection devices that will automatically seal the egg pod when high-energy substances are detected. Ordinary explosives can’t destroy the outer shell. Inside, there’s shock-absorbing cushioning to prevent organ damage from shockwaves," Kirie rattled off, "In short, I designed it to military armor protection standards. It absolutely, absolutely won’t explode."
"Yeah, yeah, I get it," Jiang Shu scratched his head; did Kirie say all this to make sure he didn’t call her a goblin doctor again?
"Mhm," Kirie nodded, satisfied that she had made her point clear.
I’m Kirie-chan, I’m very useful!
"I’m going in," Wolf said gravely, taking slow steps toward the shop post-explosion.
Meanwhile, the police officers handed over photos of the explosion site and collected remnants to Kirie for examination.
Gray-white granules...
Kirie opened the bag of residues and took a sniff, concluding, "This is ammonium oil explosives."
"Is there anything special about it?" Jiang Shu leaned over and took a sniff as well, then played along with the conversation.
"Special?" Kirie repeated his question, pondered a moment, "Easy to prepare? Convenient to use?"
"Uh... is that all? Just this?" Jiang Shu said helplessly.
But Kirie was very serious as she replied, "This is critical."
"How so?"
"This is Zone D. Although the control isn’t strict, there’s still regulation. Ammonium oil explosives—the ingredients needed to make it aren’t on the regulated list," Kirie continued to explain. "That means the case wasn’t planned by professionals. Had it been professionals, they would use more powerful, readily-available military explosives, instead of making their own."
"Oh..." Jiang Shu nodded, "So if it was made themselves, does that mean we can find the source?"
"Right, I’ve dealt with many explosion cases like this. Once you find the source of the ingredients, you can follow the clues to find the processing location. The problem will be easily solved." Kirie nodded, then took out a Rubik’s cube-sized cube from her backpack, pressed it lightly, and threw it to the ground.
The cube instantly unfolded, popping out a support structure and a piece of canvas, forming a small stool.
"Sit." Kirie pulled Jiang Shu down onto the stool and then stood beside him, her eyes clear and full of tenderness.
When Jiang Shu came back to his senses, he was already sitting on the stool. He originally thought Kirie had two of these things, but it didn’t seem to be the case.
The male officers nearby had already started pointing here and there.
"Uh..." Jiang Shu stood up abruptly, pushed Kirie down, and seated her on the stool, "You sit, you sit."
"Why?" Kirie was a bit confused. Wasn’t it normal to serve the boss?
"Right, Jiang... Shu, can I ask you a question?" Kirie pinched her clothes’ hem, speaking slowly.
"Ask." Jiang Shu responded.
Then Kirie asked, "What kind of women do you like?"
She thought about asking for Shen Xuwan. Only by knowing your friend and your enemy can you take down this Wizard and then reach the pinnacle of life.
"Uh." Jiang Shu looked at her expectant face and casually replied, "You’re asking what I like, but I... can’t really say."
Beautiful, decent character, I accept all of that.
"But if you really had to say?" Kirie’s eyes were bling bling.
He thought for a moment and said, "Well, I definitely don’t like someone who opposes me."
Right, he wouldn’t want a woman who opposes him.
A: Opposes you?
B: Then... maybe try from behind?
C: If it weren’t for 404, I’d straighten you out today.
D: If not for the Envoy’s ban on writing, I’d write fierce and furious words.
Jiang Shu: "..."
Get lost!
"Oh—" Kirie let out a meaningful, prolonged sound, her cheeks puffed up, cute and adorable.
Miss Shen certainly looked gentle and kind, definitely not the type to oppose him.
Suddenly, a black vehicle rushed up from the side and stopped behind Jiang Shu. The car door opened, and a man with a black hood reached out towards him.
"Be careful!" Kirie quickly stood up, trying to pull Jiang Shu away, but it was already too late.
The hands injected a drug into Jiang Shu’s neck, then dragged the limp Jiang Shu into the car.
"You!" Kirie took out a small gun from her pocket, aimed at the man with the black hood, "Let him go!"
"Aren’t you afraid he’ll die?" the hooded man sneered, then placed a dagger against Jiang Shu’s neck.
"Boki—"
But suddenly, Jiang Shu exploded, turning into several playing cards.
On the playing cards, the joker’s face twisted and winked, as lifelike as ever.
