Chapter 61: Chapter 62: Attending a Startling Banquet in the Human World
A buzz of discussion arose from the audience, slightly excited, but before the audience could start a more heated debate, the woman on stage had already placed her hands on the keyboard.
The concerto had almost no introduction, and after a heavy "thud," notes poured out like a storm, transitioning from the dull low tones to the crisp high tones, the woman’s slender hands even casting afterimages.
The music, the person on stage, and the scene melded together, creating a dream-like experience for the audience below, every keystroke seeming to press on the audience’s hearts, driving their emotions.
"Is this... is this really Shen Ting?" someone couldn’t help but exclaim.
Such a high intensity of playing frequency was essentially showing off, unleashing powerful techniques right from the start. This demanded unimaginable precision from the pianist, each press needing to be exceedingly accurate, even at incredibly high speeds.
What was even harder was that this style of playing lasted for two minutes, which also demanded physical endurance, difficult even for male pianists to achieve.
Thus, back then, Shen Ting had become famously known for this piece, acclaimed purely for her technical prowess.
"It’s been many years since I’ve heard her pieces."
"Yes, time flies so quickly, it’s been ten years since Master Shen Ting passed away."
These older audience members felt an endless sense of emotion, couldn’t help but converse quietly with their friends nearby.
This piece was supposed to be accompanied by other instruments, but it was currently a solo, the woman’s actions on stage causing the sheer sleeves of her black evening dress to flutter, yet her upper body remained perfectly straight, motionless, like an elegantly melancholic queen.
If you asked Jiang Shu to understand the emotions contained in the piano piece, he probably couldn’t make it out, but show him a performance flaunting technique like this, of course, he understood perfectly, and he was in awe.
"Such beautiful hands..." Jiang Shu, blessed with keen eyesight, had of course noticed those exquisite hands, and he couldn’t help but exclaim, "It’s a pity not to learn magic."
On stage, the piano music gradually softened, and the woman’s lips slightly parted to sing along with the music.
There were no lyrics, the singing sounded like meaningless "ahs," but surprisingly they were extremely soft and beautiful, complementing the piano notes perfectly.
After the piece concluded, the whole venue immersed in the music, and after a moment of silence, applause erupted, lasting for half a minute before slowly fading.
"Impressive."
"She must be the daughter of Master Shen Ting, looking at her, she and her mother are cut from the same mold."
"So young but with such high musical accomplishment."
"So this was it, this was the surprise the curator promised us. It really is a surprise, taking us back through that performance from years ago."
"These earrings, haha, he finally decided to bring them out, these were Ms. Shen Ting’s most treasured possessions. The curator has never displayed them before."
Jiang Shu listened to these comments, then suddenly realized something was amiss. He turned to find Wolf, but saw Wolf about ten meters away from him.
The target of the Deception Group...
Was likely not the music box, but those earrings!
Just as this thought occurred, Jiang Shu saw the lights above flicker and then abruptly go out, plunging the entire venue into darkness.
Without hesitation, he flicked his hand, and a playing card appeared instantly.
Cries of alarm rose, and merely from the sounds, it was clear that the venue had descended into chaos.
"Don’t panic, don’t run, stay where you are!" Wolf jumped onto a glass pillar and loudly called out to the panicked audience in the dark.
"Where’s security, security! There’s a backup power supply in the power room!" the curator’s voice boomed from the darkness, "Go turn on the backup power!"
The security guards at the door swiftly left to switch on the backup power.
"Ah!" Suddenly, a sharp female voice rang out, and everyone turned to look at the stage at once.
There, the black curtain suddenly rose.
Due to the large glass windows, the faint light outside shone into the hall, which was still barely visible.
However, when Jiang Shu looked up at the stage, he only saw profound darkness, a completely non-reflective black.
He needed light, so he turned to look at the Tablet Spirits beside him.
Ding: Venturing into the human world for a startling banquet, when the ghost knife strikes, nothing is seen.
Jiang Shu: "..."
Crazy, turn on the lights!
It seemed as if they heard his inner voice, the Tablet Spirits turned on flashlights and shone them on the stage, and Jiang Shu quickly rushed towards the stage, but he was unable to move due to the crowded people.
"They are on the stage!" he shouted loudly, but at that moment, the lights suddenly turned on and the venue became bright again.
After regaining his sight, everyone looked towards the stage, where Shen Xuwan had already disappeared.
——
"Disappeared," Wolf said with furrowed brows, "How can such a big living person just vanish like that?"
"During a power outage at New Moon Hall, the system automatically checks the status of the regular power supply. If it cannot resolve the fault by itself, it immediately activates the backup power," the director said, equally worried. "The entire process takes at most three minutes, and during tests, it was within two minutes."
"So, you’re saying that within three minutes, Shen Xuwan was abducted?" Jiang Shu stroked his chin and then began measuring the distance with his own strides.
He walked from the door to the stage, estimating the distance to be about twenty meters. The running speed of an average adult is about seven meters per second, but the stretch was dark and had obstacles such as glass displays. At that rate, five meters per second was already considered fast.
"When did the security personnel go out?" Jiang Shu asked the Tablet Spirits beside him, knowing these little devices had the bad habit of recording audio and secretly taking photos or videos.
To this, they confidently called it data collection.
Tile A: At thirty seconds into the darkness, the director spoke.
Tile B: At forty-two seconds, the security personnel left the venue.
Tile C: At one minute three seconds, Shen Xuwan screamed.
Tile D: Two minutes, the lights came on.
From the videos recorded by the four Tablet Spirits, A, B, C, and D, it was possible to clearly understand the timing of each event after the lights went out.
"Their actions were so quick..." Wolf felt troubled as well. In just two short minutes, Deception Group had snatched Shen Xuwan right under their noses.
"And, why didn’t anyone see them?" he continued, "Even though it was dark at the venue, there was still some light. I could see people ten meters away, but I couldn’t see anyone from Deception Group."
"Wolf, Police Chief!" At that moment, a police officer ran up quickly.
When Shen Xuwan disappeared, Wolf had immediately sealed off the entire New Moon Hall. The supporting officers had arrived swiftly and were responsible for searching the interior of New Moon Hall, including places where robbers might be hiding and checking the guests.
However, those who held New Moon Hall membership cards generally held distinguished social statuses. After a brief investigation, nothing unusual was found, and they were let go.
"What is it?" Wolf looked at the officer.
"We..." The officer came running and caught his breath as he spoke.
"We’ve found Ms. Shen Xuwan!"
