Chapter 480: Chapter 264: I Just Said He Couldn’t Resist

At 6 a.m. sharp, Jiang Shu opened his eyes.

His gaze fell upon the stone ceiling and the orange hue of light.

He crawled out of the sleeping bag spread on the ground and looked around, finding the entire cave had become starkly empty.

The consoles, display screens, and weapons had all vanished.

They had all been taken by the Rift.

But all of this hadn’t happened without Jiang Shu’s awareness, for he had been awake when the Rift moved the belongings, merely pretending to sleep.

Because Jiang Shu also thought that since the Rift wanted to leave in the middle of the night quietly, he certainly didn’t want to be watched by a pair of eyes in the dark.

After all, that’s how it’s always portrayed in movies and TV: leave with everything in the dead of night while the other person slept soundly, leaving behind just a vast, empty cave, and upon waking, the person would feel a profound sense of loss.

If the Rift had called on Jiang Shu in the middle of the night to help move, it would have completely ruined his aura.

Jiang Shu was very clear on this, so he chose to feign sleep.

"Let’s go, it’s time to leave," Jiang Shu also stood up, calling his four Tablet Spirits.

In the corner, four black-screened tablets lit up, limbs extending from their bodies, then floated lightly towards Jiang Shu...

Some even donned tiny shoes and trotted over.

Together with his four spirits, he walked out of the room and then traveled back through the tunnel to the surface.

The sunlight was slightly harsh, so Jiang Shu stretched his hand out to cover his eyes slightly.

Morning mist lingered amongst the ruins, on what could perhaps be called roads between abandoned buildings, three or four figures emerged from various paths.

Lang Tai.

The Painter.

Ancient Snake.

The Fox.

All wearing their masks, either leaning against the wall or standing upright, focusing on a piece of rebar jutting from the wall or standing on a large rock bathing in the orange sunlight, they all waited for Jiang Shu in these ruins.

This was the agreed-upon time, the moment for several members of the Deception Group to meet.

Jiang Shu didn’t plan to go straight back to the station yet; using this opportunity, it was a perfect time for a brief meeting of the Deception Group.

His gaze swept over those figures in the ruins and he nodded slightly.

Yi: All villains, assemble!

In the previous week, the Fox and Lang Tai had gone with Jiang Shu to the Fifth District, while the Painter and Ancient Snake dealt with escapees in Thirteen District.

"You’ve been staying in Thirteen District, so you must be very aware of what’s been happening there recently," Jiang Shu looked towards Ancient Snake and the Painter.

Although Jiang Shu always kept up with the news from Lonely City and its districts, many things were never reported in the news.

"Nothing unusual," the Painter adjusted the mask on his face, always uncomfortable wearing it.

But seeing the others still wearing their masks, he did not take his off, instead straightening his posture; his white suit stood out among the rest.

He recalled in his mind, "Evon Garcia and the Taigong Dynasty were disputing territories, and we, along with the Rift, were hunting those escapees. However, those escapees are very good at hiding; if they don’t commit crimes actively, it’s hard for us to detect their presence."

"The Rift... did he ever discover you?" Jiang Shu asked.

Given the character of Rift Gary, the Deception Group would also be a target for him, especially since the Deception Group had already been wanted back when Gary was still a police officer.

"He found us and confronted us," Ancient Snake continued, "But for some reason, he left without saying a word."

"Is that so?" Jiang Shu frowned slightly.

At that moment, the Fox seemed to recall something and softly said, "It must be because of Devil Wind. We encountered the Rift during the war in Thirteen District."

"Hmm?" Jiang Shu turned to look at the Fox.

Not just the Fox, the Painter also turned his head to look at the Fox, having been present at the scene, but he thought back and couldn’t find the reason.

"You left quickly and didn’t see," said the Fox, speaking to the Painter, "That day when we encountered the Rift, Devil Wind repelled his attack, and the Rift fell into a loss of control from Cyber Syndrome. That good-natured Devil Wind left him a bottle of sedative."

He said hauntingly, "Perhaps because of this matter, the Rift didn’t make a move on you, fellow members of the Deception Group."

"I thought he was just wary of us," Ancient Snake shrugged indifferently when he heard this.

His close-quarters combat skills were not bad, plus the Painter’s unique Key Master ability— even if the Rift had complete control over his Prosthetic Body, he could not guarantee a victory.

If it were reminiscing over old ties with Devil Wind, that was rather dull.

And the Fox’s gaze also shifted into the distance; he didn’t achieve the outcome he desired on this recent trip to the Fifth District.

Though he had destroyed Tang’s entire influence and efforts, in the end, he hadn’t managed to kill the man personally; instead, that man had simply disappeared.

However, what the Fox didn’t know was that Jiang Shu had indeed accomplished what he had envisioned.

At this moment, Tang, in his Paperman state, was locked in Jiang Shu’s basement, and those two twisted bullets kept him company perpetually.

"Besides that, we also infiltrated the Special Prison to get a list of escapees," Ancient Snake continued, "I haven’t mentioned this to you yet, but with the list, searching for those escapees has become much more convenient."
