Chapter 414: Chapter 239: I want to make you the God of the new world!
Three rounds of coin guessing hadn’t solved Jiang Shu’s problem; instead, they made him realize something.
This Red Clo was no less difficult to deal with.
Compared to Black Kler, Red Clo’s thinking was a bit more unorthodox, and even Jiang Shu had been fooled by his performance.
"What’s the game rule? Tell me about it," Red Clo fiddled with the coin, apparently trying to replicate Jiang Shu’s earlier coin rolling technique, but didn’t succeed even once.
Fortunately, he’d been catching the falling coin with his left hand underneath each time, and wasn’t continuously spilling and picking up coins like a mentally challenged child.
"Hide the coin first," Jiang Shu said, watching Red Clo’s constant dropping of coins, he frowned slightly and spoke rapidly.
What puzzled Jiang Shu was that Red Clo actually obediently "Oh"ed, then put his hands behind his back and started hiding the coin.
"First, I need to know, what are the rules for overtime?" Jiang Shu didn’t directly state the rules he wanted to add; instead, he first asked Clo.
Clo answered without hesitation, "At the end of each round, whoever is leading in points is the winner."
He didn’t want to go through another three rounds, as the longer it dragged on, the easier it was for Jiang Shu to see through all his mental tricks, and he didn’t have a stable way to score, so continuing would be disadvantageous to him.
"Alright, the added rule is you can’t use magic props, but you can ask questions, and..." Jiang Shu said, his speech starting quickly and then slowing down slightly.
By now, Red Clo had also completed his coin hiding, and he extended his clenched fists.
Jiang Shu quickly pointed to his left hand and continued at a fast pace: "Now we are both lying, is it in this hand? Quick, quick."
Red Clo hesitated for a moment then immediately answered, "No."
Then Jiang Shu pointed to his right hand and asked, "Now we are both saying ’no,’ is it in this hand? Quick!"
"No," Red Clo responded instinctively.
"Good, it’s in this right hand," Jiang Shu pointed at the right hand again and provided the affirmative answer.
"Huh?" Red Clo was also slightly stunned, he seemed not to have figured out what had just happened, but before he could think it through, Jiang Shu interrupted his thought process again.
"Quick, is it the right hand or not?" Jiang Shu kept urging Clo, not giving him the chance to think deeply.
Clo still looked a bit confused, but he opened his hands nevertheless.
The coin was indeed hidden in his right hand.
In the fourth round, Jiang Shu repeated his trick; he transferred the extra coin in the same way to between his fingers, a place invisible from Clo’s perspective.
Jiang Shu didn’t need to stand in the opponent’s position to know this, as he had perfected his concealment technique during his past extensive mirror training.
And so, unsurprisingly, Clo guessed wrong this round.
With the round ended, Jiang Shu also won the game with a score of 2:1.
The tension in the hall immediately dissipated, and the hostages all breathed a sigh of relief; though the process had its twists, it ended without danger.
Jiang Shu let out a long sigh.
His method of coin guessing had succeeded again. Perhaps it was hard to describe the intricacy of the whole process just by words, but in actuality, the process of guessing the coin was not only intricately cunning but also despicably clever.
Or perhaps, it was simply unfathomable.
The trick started when he spoke about adding new rules; first off, he needed to confirm how many rounds the game would actually go, as this method could only be used once or twice before becoming noticeable.
A sharp and quick respondent like Red Clo could only be tricked with this ploy once.
He briefly confused Red Clo with the new rules he casually mentioned, then he linked the "new rules" with his "questions" using "and also..."
"And also" is a very cunning word; because of this word, Red Clo subconsciously found it hard to determine whether "Now we’re both lying, is it in this hand?" was a question or a new rule.
So he just answered instinctively, and by that time, Red Clo certainly hadn’t figured it out.
With the left hand negative, naturally the right hand was affirmative.
By this point, Jiang Shu already had the answer for this round, but he had to prevent Red Clo from understanding this fact within a short time, as it would aid in concealing his subsequent coin hiding and the possibility of guessing correctly again.
Thus, what came next from Jiang Shu was critical.
Due to the existence of echoic memory, Red Clo would soon recall the recent statement; therefore, Jiang Shu had to quickly dispel the information in Red Clo’s mind about "lying."
This resulted in the phrase "Now we all say ’no’," which modified Red Clo’s memory—he would only remember that Jiang Shu asked him to say "no" both times, not once lying and once not.
It might be difficult to grasp the principle of this magic with words alone, much like the perplexing left-left-right and right-right-left, but that was the fact. Jiang Shu had also used it to bamboozle some of his magician friends, and without exception, it was successful each time.
The outcome was that these knowledgeable magician friends all thought he had used some sophisticated magic prop and were puzzled for a long period of time.
