Chapter 399: Chapter 233 Massacre Paradise_2
Could it be that a misalignment between the mind and body is the reason those modified maniacs evolved into cyberpsychotic?
Similar to the cause of the Mutants?
In just a few seconds, Jiang Shu found his thoughts drifting off to a strange place; he felt a moment of embarrassment within himself, then turned his attention back to the small Paperman.
The Paperman was silent, head bowed, showing no reaction.
This was the secret hidden deepest within Tang’s heart, unknown to anyone except the two Fake Bodies, but now Jiang Shu had casually brought it to light; that Tang could quickly regain composure was commendable under such circumstances.
Moreover, the fact that Tang wasn’t as shocked by his transformation into a Paperman as he was by the failure of the plan indicated that, in his mind, the significance of the plan outweighed his own safety.
"Why would I want to gas everyone in the Fifth District? Have I gone mad?" Tang quickly soothed his emotions, scoffing as he countered Jiang Shu, "Why would you think I’d do such an absurd thing?"
"You might have gone mad," Jiang Shu seemed to receive a signal that everything was proceeding smoothly; he replied with a smile, "Ever since that... hiss—flower seller, sorry, I’ve forgotten her name, you’ve been mad since her death."
"Aishania, her name was Aishania," Tang suddenly interjected, yet his demeanor remained steady, not fluctuating with Jiang Shu’s disrespect for the woman, but instead settling down completely.
Like flipping a switch, Aishania was the baseline that kept him from spiraling into insanity.
"Yes, you’ve been mad since she died, it’s just that you are a rational mad man," Jiang Shu continued, his tone relaxed, "like I said in that movie ’Minor Character’..."
"To humans, the most troublesome are never the Devils in Hell, but the imps by the Devil’s side; they’d sacrifice others for the most unfounded reasons, far more bottomless than those Devils," Tang clearly had watched this movie closely, quickly quoting the line that Jiang Shu was alluding to.
"Right, and what’s enabling these imps to run amok is actually the completely collapsed legal society in the movie," Jiang Shu said, surprised by how the conversation was unfolding, seemingly taking full control of the rhythm, "So what you truly wish to do is to completely change Lonely City."
"Exactly, I want to change Lonely City, so what? I want what’s best for Lonely City, why would I annihilate its people?" Tang instantly retorted, thinking he had caught a fallacy in Jiang Shu’s words.
"Your Plan A is to create a just nation imagined by you through the ’Shubao’ device and the new Black Wall, employing violent and coercive measures to reduce crime and whatnot," Jiang Shu activated the Simulated Light Screen, "Under such circumstances, perhaps your legal society could indeed become a reality."
"You’re not wrong," Tang readily admitted, responding directly, "That’s exactly it."
"You missed mentioning another tool, the APP named ’Exchange’ is the key," Jiang Shu smiled slightly, "This thing is crucial; you claim its underlying logic is encrypted, that all user data are unusable, but in reality, your artificial intelligence can use it at will."
Tang’s expression remained calm; he didn’t object to Jiang Shu’s words.
"Crime follows patterns, and so do criminals," Jiang Shu continued, with analyses of the ’Exchange’ app usage appearing on the Simulated Light Screen before him, "Aside from the truly chaotic crimes of passion, most criminal cases have signs beforehand."
"Locations, message records, browsing history, purchase history... these pieces of information can all aid artificial intelligence in making judgments about cases," Jiang Shu explained, "I’ve gone through all the cases you’ve handled, and you excel in analyzing criminal psychology from these details; you’re also adept at imaginative crime detection patterns."
"To achieve true rule of law, sacrificing some freedom is acceptable," Tang voiced his view coldly.
Jiang Shu simply shrugged, "I don’t want to debate this with you; I’m not good at persuading others, nor at being persuaded."
"Then what’s the point of saying all this? Do you think my approach is wrong and that you want to stop me?" Tang pressed on, trying to extract answers from Jiang Shu’s words.
"Keep on analyzing, just making conversation. You know, I rarely express my true thoughts around others," Jiang Shu said nonchalantly, his smile gentle, his gestures effortlessly casual, but his eyes seemed to hide sharpness, "Weren’t you in the same state when you were analyzing how to turn Mu Jin against us?"
Only now, their roles had swapped.
This was something Jiang Shu didn’t articulate but was understood by both of them.
In a corner, three Tablet Spirits were watching the man at the table, covertly exchanging messages through their screen’s danmaku.
A: Sure enough, Master is the most vengeful person in this world.
B: I pity my little Diller, please die quickly, do not fall into the hands of old Jiang the weirdo.
C: Actually B, you’re the real old devil, suggesting the resurrection of Tang and also wanting Diller to die. Isn’t Diller only in Jiang’s hands after death? If Diller dies, won’t he just end up in the basement with Rebirth Technique?
