Chapter 383: Chapter 227: Magic: Impure World Resurrection!

"Hello to all the viewers in front of the screen, good afternoon, this is the 56th outdoor interview special of ’Koichi Kojima Chronicles’," Koichi Kojima began, his face adorned with a somewhat stiff official smile, "This edition is proudly sponsored by the ’Swordman’ brand herbal toothpaste, nurturing your every day with the essence of herbs."

The script was a bit boring, but he didn’t care much, as his commission wasn’t much to begin with. After all, the advertisers were stingy, and the pitiful advertising fees, after the TV station had taken its cut, wouldn’t leave much for him.

And Ooishi, used to this routine, was just carrying the camera, aimed at Koichi Kojima, with his other hand giving a thumbs-up, signaling that Koichi could confidently continue.

In front of Koichi was a Simulated Light Screen, its projection emanating from his wristwatch, but it wasn’t influenced by the movements of the watch, instead remaining fixed about forty centimeters in front of Koichi’s chest.

It was a multifunctional display board, but other functions like checking the network speed or measuring picture stability were not key. What mattered most were the features showing the number of viewers and the public chat.

Right, and the audience retention rate as well.

Koichi glanced at it. As he started the broadcast, about three hundred people had entered the livestream, but after he finished reading the advertisement, only one hundred and fifty-eight remained.

One hundred and fifty-eight?

He was slightly startled. Based on past experience, there should be around one hundred and fifty left at this point, those who were regular viewers of his program, always present once the broadcast started. But now there were eight additional people.

Hmm?

Am I about to hit it big?

"Right now I am outside a hospital, and this is where our street interview will start today," Koichi declared rapidly in front of the camera, his lips turning up slightly, revealing his good mood, but he deliberately suppressed his excitement, instead exuding a mysterious air as he elongated his intonation, "And our first interviewee is—"

At the same time, photographer Ooishi expertly panned the camera towards the end of the hospital corridor, focusing on Jiang Shu.

There he was, calmly reflecting on something while looking at an object by the window.

Dressed in the classic magician’s makeup, the combination of a black suit and a white shirt was rather formal, but the black suit jacket was of a rough tweed material, giving it a rugged handmade feel in stark contrast to the refined business suits, therefore this textural change made Jiang Shu appear more relaxed and comfortable.

This angle was perfect. The sunlight streaming through the window illuminated Jiang Shu, with the golden contours elevating his elegance instantly. Photographer Ooishi even suspected that the magician had intentionally chosen this spot and angle knowing they were filming.

He clicked his tongue in wonder and turned this snapshot into the cover for this episode of the program.

"That’s right, Mr. Jiang Shu, the magician," Koichi Kojima continued speaking, his voice echoed outside the live broadcast, yet the mere sound of it allowed the audience to envision his anticipatory state of mind, "the man who once foretold Past Life and Present Life, trimmed shadows, controlled cards at will, opened Hell’s Gate, achieved Complete Invisibility, commanded the Spirit Monster, and controlled Thunder, the man living in the myths of Lonely City!"

"And today, we might just confront this legend," Koichi’s tone deepened with solemnity as if indeed narrating an epic.

Setting aside other things, this monologue was both stirring and well-organized, with a closing that filled the interview with great anticipation, showcasing Koichi’s solid foundation as a formally trained host.

But as excited as he was to hype up the moment, Koichi felt a tinge of nervousness and unease. He had already put himself out there; what if Jiang Shu simply couldn’t be bothered with their interview?

As he pondered, Koichi’s stride suddenly halted, regretting that perhaps he had spoken too soon.

He looked towards the Simulated Light Screen, where the audience’s comments were displayed.

As he finished his introduction, the viewer count suddenly skyrocketed to over a thousand, and the chat was furiously scrolling.

"Holy shit, Jiang Shu? Is that really Jiang Shu?"

"Yeah, yeah, that’s Jiang Shu, wasn’t there talk of him committing murder a few days ago? He’s also in Fifth District, right?"

"The murder was fake, nobody from the Dick family is dead."

"This program managed to get Jiang Shu as a guest? That’s insane."

"But does anyone recognize which hospital this is? It looks so familiar."

"Of course it’s familiar, every hospital in Fifth District looks like this."

As the chat continued to scroll rapidly, the number of viewers grew at an astonishing rate, reaching three to four thousand within mere seconds—a number previously unimaginable to Koichi.

The peak viewership for his program had only been just over a thousand, and that was with the TV station providing some traffic.

Thus, Koichi took a step forward, his mind made up.

What if Jiang Shu rejected the interview?

What else to do then?

He’d deal with it when it happened—even if it meant botching the segment. Could it be worse than before?
