Chapter 284: Chapter 187 Clo Lights a Cigarette_4
It’s over!
In the instant he was knocked down by the net, he realized what was about to happen. His body crashed to the ground, but he didn’t care about that at all. All he did was lift his hands high, preventing the medicine box in his grasp from shattering due to the impact.
He tucked the medicine box underneath his body and twisted his head back to look at the guards and Joseph striding towards him.
"You filthy swine, coming here to steal medicine!" Joseph, seeing the man immobilized on the ground, instantly wore a triumphant look, his small mustache quivering again. He didn’t hesitate to kick the man, cursing, "If you’ve got no money, then forget about getting treated!"
"Why don’t you just wait to die, you poor scum?"
"After all, when you grow up, you can only be sold off, might as well die early!"
Joseph kicked the man repeatedly, venting his rage without any restraint.
Just moments ago in the office, when the man had grabbed him, he had actually believed he might die there. He was scared and furious about his fear.
"Give me the gun." Joseph looked at the man who was lying motionless on the ground, even angrier because his light kicking seemed to have no effect. He grabbed a gun from a guard and used it to smash down on the man’s head.
Years of military instinct allowed Kevin to sense the deadly attack, so he instinctively brought his hands up to protect his head.
A dull noise sounded. Even with his hands blocking, Kevin still felt a hammering blow to his head, seeing stars in front of his eyes.
"You pauper!" Joseph spat in contempt, repeatedly stomping on the exposed medicine box beneath the man, crushing it completely. The vials inside shattered and the medicine spilled all over the ground.
"Lock him back up and take him to the police station tomorrow," Joseph said in irritation, as if he was the one who had been kicked.
He turned and went back to the factory building on his own.
"The medicine... the medicine!" Kevin shook his head and then arched his back again, searching under himself for those medicine vials.
Almost all the vials were shattered, the liquid medicine staining his clothes, mixing with blood and sweat to produce an unpleasant odor, but he just kept searching through the glass fragments with his hands, not caring even as his fingers were cut and bled.
"The medicine!" Not until he found two intact small vials did he breathe a sigh of relief, carefully placing the medicine into the inner pocket of his clothes.
The guards didn’t bother to remove the net and simply dragged it with them toward the direction of the factory building.
He was dragged along continuously, feeling his back being scraped by the small stones on the ground, but he paid it no mind, just clutching tightly to the pocket of his clothes, contemplating.
He had to find a chance to break free on the way to the police station tomorrow. As long as he could get home, his daughter would survive.
Or perhaps...
Explaining the situation at the police station might also allow him to go back and bring the medicine to his daughter, right?
With two bottles of medicine, his daughter should be able to recover. As long as he could get through this period, he could find another way afterward.
With that thought, hope was rekindled in his heart.
One way or another...
He could still save his daughter!
"Stay put." The guard threw him into a dark cellar and then "bang" closed the door.
In the darkness, he caressed the two unbroken vials of medicine, feeling somewhat relieved, then he groped around, seeking any possibility of escaping this place in the darkness.
But he quickly sat down in disappointment. This was an almost fully sealed cellar, with no chance of escape.
That’s why the guards didn’t even bother handcuffing him; they just took away the net.
So he found a brick to use as a pillow and closed his eyes.
The only thing he had to do now was rest and gather strength. When leaving the factory tomorrow, he needed to find any opportunity to escape.
But while dozing off, he heard a commotion outside, so he opened his eyes instantly, springing up from the ground. He walked over to the door and peered out through the small window of the cellar door, only to see a faint light coming through.
Due to the angle, he could see nothing.
Just a faint light was coming through.
But soon, he saw several figures walking toward this place.
It was a man, a man he had never seen before.
The man opened the door to the basement.
"Who are you..." Kevin took a wary step back, allowing enough room to counterattack.
"Didn’t expect there to actually be someone here," the man at the door said with a surprised expression as he waved his hand, "Follow me."
Kevin didn’t hesitate and directly followed the pace of these people as they left.
For him, as long as he could leave this place, anything would do.
The group reached the aboveground factory, which was now completely under control. All the living guards and protectors had been disarmed, kneeling on the ground, hands over their heads.
Following this team through the factory, Kevin saw Joseph amongst those holding their heads.
At this moment, Joseph’s head was deeply bowed, his body shaking, pleading non-stop, "Don’t kill me, don’t kill me, anything is fine as long as you don’t kill me, take all the drugs..."
"Take the drugs we need, burn the rest," the lead man ordered a middle-aged man at his side. Then the middle-aged man, following a pre-planned strategy, walked over to a few containers, with a mere wave of his hand, the containers disappeared without a trace. He then moved through the factory with clear targets.
This is...
Kevin was stunned. The ability to make entire containers disappear with a wave of a hand...
Who were these people?
"Who are you?" Kevin asked the blond man who led them.
"Me?" The blond man turned around, smiling, but his eyes held no mirth, "You can call me Clo."
"Thank you for saving me." Kevin wasn’t clear about his details, but his instincts told him that the man before him bore no apparent malice toward him, so he extended his hand, "My name is Kevin."
"Hmm." Clo nodded, "You’ve seen my face, so now you have two choices, join us or end up like him."
Clo pulled out a pistol from his waist and without hesitation, shot and killed Joseph, who was trembling the most.
"I’ll join you, but I need to go home first, my daughter is ill," Kevin said. "I need to deliver the medicine to her."
"No." Clo shook his head and pointed his pistol at Kevin’s head, "You need to prove your worth. I have no need for dead weight."
"I am from the Huang Kong Group’s ninth team, and was formerly a squad leader of the special forces, with extensive special operations experience," Kevin stood firm. "I am willing to do anything for you."
"Take your medicine." Clo nodded his head, turned, and walked away, "I will go to your place with you."
Kevin breathed a sigh of relief. He rushed to Joseph’s body, took his ID card, then dashed toward Joseph’s office to get the medicine he needed.
When he got to the door, Clo had been waiting in a van for quite a while.
"Where is your home?" Clo, sitting in the driver’s seat, patted the passenger seat, signaling for Kevin to get in.
"Moonset Avenue, number ninety-five." Kevin quickly replied, then boarded the vehicle.
The van started, and an explosion rang out from the direction of the factory. Looking back, he saw flames reaching skyward, casting a red glow on his face.
He didn’t ask why there were only the two of them in the van. Right now, all he wanted was to hurry home and give his daughter the medicine.
And Clo didn’t say much more, seeming to sense Kevin’s urgent mood, he pressed the gas pedal all the way down.
Soon, the van stopped downstairs of Kevin’s apartment block. Almost before the van had come to a complete stop, Kevin charged out.
Clo also leisurely disembarked, leaning against the van, staring down at the ground, his expression still calm.
Moments later, he heard heart-wrenching cries coming from upstairs.
Clo lit a cigarette.
But he didn’t put it in his mouth, just held it between his fingers.
