Chapter 183: Chapter 150 So, the Game Continues
"Tap-tap-tap—tap-tap-tap—"
The rhythmic bursts of a light machine gun resonated in the hallway, the continuous suppression from the bullets forced Wolf and his two companions to take cover behind sandbags, not daring to poke their heads out.
Partner: I’d be dead the second I stick my head out!
"Wolf, what do we do now?" Jiang Shu asked from behind the towering sandbags, lying on his side, "Do you think these sandbags will hold out if he keeps firing like this?"
Although he asked, he knew there shouldn’t be any problem because the Card he had secretly shifted into the sandbags hadn’t felt the impact of the bullets, and it was clear that the friction between the sands was enough to stop the bullets.
"No worries," Wolf shook his head, "Bullets can’t really have both lethality and Penetration. Usually, the ammo chasing after lethality is of this type."
Wolf, not knowing where he scraped it from, pulled out a deformed bullet and tossed it in front of Jiang Shu, explaining while peeking out to check the situation, then the "whoosh" of bullets forced him back.
"Such bullets can’t penetrate standard sandbags that are 50 centimeters thick; the sand’s friction easily dissipates the bullet’s kinetic energy and destroys it. You would need armor-piercing bullets meant for penetration, like those with steel-hardened tungsten cores, and he’s not using those right now."
Jiang Shu nodded and then smirked slightly, timely reminding Wolf, "Actually, I just asked casually, you don’t really need to explain all these military trivia to me, it uses up too much of my brain’s storage space."
"Pfft," Wolf felt somewhat disheartened, he shouldn’t have shared basic knowledge that a real man should know with someone like Jiang Shu.
"Stop talking, he’s changing his bullets," Kirie suddenly spoke up.
Wolf looked up in surprise. Devil Wind had disassembled the lower part of his right arm, revealing the magazine slot inside. He removed the empty drum there and then took another from his waist and loaded it.
Devil Wind’s mask was tightly worn, making his voice sound somewhat muffled, "The next rounds aren’t regular ones, they can easily penetrate sandbags and cover. I suggest you step aside, we just want to kill those three people."
"Yes, he’s right," Fox concurred, glancing at the police officer not far from him, then suddenly smiled, "How about this, let’s play a game."
Wolf and his teammates were in the middle of the defense line, suppressed by Devil Wind’s gunfire, they hadn’t managed to move some anesthetized police officers to a safe place, so now three officers were at the front line of defense.
Fox slowly walked to the front of the line, sat on a sandbag while looking at the officers collapsed in the "trench," and casually said, "Three criminals’ lives in exchange for three police officers’. How about that? Pretty good deal, huh?"
Wolf startled, then angrily fired several shots at Fox, but just like earlier, the transparent shield in front of Fox stopped the laser.
Unfazed by Wolf’s laser blasts, Fox just looked at him while pulling a small knife from his waist, gesturing near an officer’s throat, "I can give you three minutes to think."
"How dare you!" Wolf stood up in anger, two Mantis Blades extending from his forearms, at the same moment, Devil Wind pointed his gun at him, but he showed no fear and just stared down Fox, his muscles tensed up, ready for a desperate fight.
Even though he felt Fox wouldn’t actually kill the officer, entrusting others’ lives to someone’s mere interest wasn’t his style.
Ten meters.
His Prosthetic Eye gave out the data. At ten meters, if he urged the active verb...
He could take down Fox in an instant.
With this thought, he held his breath and readied himself to strike.
Even if it might fail, even if he might get hit by a bullet that got the jump on him, he was Wolf, a man adept at creating miracles!
Having walked this path step by step since more than a decade ago, he survived every life-and-death crisis without fail, and this time would be no exception!
Suddenly though, Fox, seemingly disinterested, tossed away his dagger, jumped off the sandbag, and walked back towards the group of mechanical Disciples, turning his back to Wolf without fear of an attack from behind, waving his hand dismissively, "Boring, getting all excited and rushing in without thinking. Seriously dull, let Jiang Shu come and play with me."
"Uh?" Wolf got completely thrown off, having already imagined a whole personal heroism blockbuster in his mind, and Fox’s capricious style of handling things made his emotions incoherent for a moment.
Meanwhile, Jiang Shu nudged Kirie with his elbow and whispered teasingly, "Believe it or not, he had already imagined himself saving the world just now."
"I believe it," Kirie nodded. That was typical of Wolf, once he got impulsive, nobody could stop him.
Then, she glanced at the Black Card hidden in Jiang Shu’s palm; only a small corner of the Card was visible, but she was sure this was the one she had made.
You’re quite the same yourself.
Kirie thought to herself.
Then she also put down the delicate small handgun she was holding.
At the same moment, Jiang Shu tugged at Wolf from behind. Wolf paused, his attention drawn to a small armored gadget on the ground with a message displayed on its screen.
