Chapter 108: Chapter 109 Sister Ruò? Sister Ruò!
"It’s two in the morning, the middle of the night shift for the prison guards, probably their drowsiest time, I think you can do it," Clo said slowly.
Jiang Shu hesitated for a moment, then slowly nodded.
Then he took advantage of the shadows and tiptoed towards the prison guard. When he reached a suitable distance, a card slipped out of his sleeve.
The face of the playing card featured a cleverly arranged spiral pattern that slowly rotated in front of the prison guard’s eyes, instantly capturing his attention.
Before the prison guard could react, Jiang Shu quickly patted his shoulder and whispered hastily into his ear, "Relax, relax, sleep."
The prison guard slumped, losing consciousness instantly.
Jiang Shu carefully propped him against the wall nearby, sitting by the wall with his head tilted to one side, appearing to be sound asleep.
Then Jiang Shu waved toward Clo to come over.
Actually, using the "Paper Card Technique" could stun more easily and effectively, but it might also leave scars and memories related to injuries. When the guard woke up, it could cause problems. Hypnosis was much more natural.
When the guard woke up, he would only think he was too tired and had dreamed.
Clo hurried over, gave Jiang Shu a thumbs up, then looked at the elevator control panel.
They needed a card to open the elevator door, and they obviously didn’t have an elevator "Door Card."
So, Clo pulled out a homemade disassembling device he carried with him, completely dismantling the control panel beside the elevator door, and used a hook to remove a precise device inside.
He pried open the device, disconnected the connections inside, then took out a small component from his pocket, connected it to the elevator, extended its contacts, and pushed a switch on the component.
"Ding—" The elevator doors opened as he pressed, revealing a spacious interior.
Jiang Shu looked at Clo curiously.
"Just sending a signal to open the door and go downstairs," Clo explained casually, fixed the control panel back, and then stepped into the elevator.
Indeed, the elevator control panel had a button for the subterranean fourth floor.
Jiang Shu felt a slight thrill of excitement, following Clo, but also feeling like they were uncovering a secret.
"Be careful," Clo warned him, "we might encounter someone when the elevator arrives."
"Okay," Jiang Shu nodded.
"Don’t worry too much. I didn’t encounter any prison guards last time I was here. There shouldn’t be any on the subterranean fourth floor," Clo continued, "unless we happen to meet someone from that floor. But it’s two in the morning, no normal person would be here."
"Also, it seems there are no surveillance cameras, probably because they’re worried about recordings leaking or something. I’m not entirely sure why," he added, "so I didn’t bring the signal jammer this time, even though I’ve made them very small... but they are still too heavy."
Jiang Shu nodded, and Clo had explained everything to him.
"Ding—" The elevator doors opened again, revealing a vast, dim space, with only a few faint beams of light coming from afar.
This place resembled a prison, surrounded by a somewhat sci-fi setting, like the corridor of a starship.
Smooth, gleaming gray walls, contoured to form aesthetic hard lines. There was a white fluorescent line at the junction of the wall and floor, extending endlessly into the depths of the corridor.
Clo glanced back at Jiang Shu and gestured for him to follow.
The two of them walked further into the corridor, tiptoeing yet composed, exhibiting experienced demeanor.
As they passed a room, Clo looked inside. No lights were on, so he pulled out his assembled lighting device and shone it into the room.
Jiang Shu was startled by his bold move. Wasn’t he afraid that someone might be inside and discover them?
Thinking this, Jiang Shu also leaned in curiously to take a closer look.
There was no one in the room, which was simply furnished, somewhat like a hospital’s operating room, but Jiang Shu couldn’t make out other details.
Clo walked one by one until a fork appeared.
To the left of the fork was the same corridor, the same sci-fi style, but to the right, there was a distinctly war-damaged style.
Dim and damp, one could still hear the drip of water coming from the depths of the darkness, and the icy walls and small doors divided the corridor into several rooms.
Clo tugged Jiang Shu’s clothes and pointed to the left.
Following the direction of his finger, Jiang Shu looked down the left corridor; at the end, a figure leaned against the wall smoking, emitting clouds of smoke, appearing extremely lazy.
That was...
He felt the silhouette looked familiar. With his excellent vision, he tried to make out the face, but it blended with the dark environment and remained indistinct.
But it resembled Sister Ruo!
Jiang Shu felt his heart thumping rapidly; it was hard to clarify his emotions, unsure if it was excitement or something else.
However, his heart soon cooled a bit as he remembered why he had come here.
Approaching to recognize his sister, if he recognized the wrong person, he would be in trouble.
Jiang Shu gestured and mouthed to Clo, "Do you know her?"
Clo shook his head, turned, and walked towards the war-damaged area on the right, waving his hand to signal Jiang Shu to follow.
The two of them walked deeper along the corridor.
Passing by a room, Jiang Shu looked inside; straw spread on the floor barely qualified as a bed, and the heap of flesh on the bed barely qualified as a person.
His expression turned grave; the scene here made him think of some very bad things.
Someone was conducting live experiments.
In addition, the cells here housed all forms of people, emaciated and twisted in various shapes, and upon closer inspection, it was clear these were caused post-birth.
Occasionally, there were eyes that were open, but without exception, they contained only a dead void within their dim pupils.
Scattered haphazardly along the corridor were worn surgery tables, and the tables held various sharp instruments or blunt objects. Beside them, a medicine cabinet was disorderly stuffed with vials and reagents bearing illegible labels.
On the surgery tables, there was nothing else but dirty sheets streaked with yellow stains and brown blood spots.
There were also two scalpels thrown on the sheets, the blades stained with relatively fresh blood.
A bit further down, a faint light could be seen.
Jiang Shu stopped in his tracks, frowning deeply as he meticulously retraced that brief glimpse, feeling as if he had overlooked some detail.
Xiao Ba and Xiao Wu!
He remembered; he had seen Xiao Ba and Xiao Wu obscured next to that woman, only a small part visible, so he hadn’t noticed them before.
So...
Was Sister Ruo conducting these experiments?
Clo tugged at him again, apparently having discovered something new, while Jiang Shu just stared blankly behind him, behind that corner, where many of his questions might find answers.
"I’ll go take care of something, you explore on your own," Jiang Shu whispered, "If I don’t come back, head back to the dorm by yourself."
Having said that, he turned and walked away...
Walked away...
Clo stared at his retreating figure, feeling a breath he couldn’t quite catch.
