Chapter 16: 16: Curse

Sue’s pov

"What?"’ I demanded, watching as Adele grew even angrier. She glared daggers at me and wss gripping her son too tight that I was certain it was definitely hurting, telling from the scrunch of his little face.

"Are you stupid? Does he look hurt to you?" I questioned, gesturing at her son who was trying to free his hand from his mother’s tight grip, and failing. At this point, a few people had gathered and were currently watching the unfolding scene.

"My hand hurts, mum." The boy finally mumbled and as soon as his mother feeed his hand, she pointed a finger at me.

"See? Did you hear that? You hurt his hand! How could you be so wicked?!" She thundered and I sighed as I presddd my fingers agsinst my forehead, feeling beyond irritated at this point.

"That was because you were gripping his hand tight, dummy. You can ask him yourself." I snapped and Adele flattered for a moment before crouching before her son who stood awkwardly like he didn’t understand the situation.

"Honey, did that freak hurt you?" She asked softly, pointing at me and I scoffed underneath my breath, already completely over this situation. Her son glanced at me before shaking his head firmly, without any hesitation.

"You didn’t bother to ask me a thing, mum. She didn’t hurt me, she saved me!" He explained, beaming at me and once again, I felt my heart tighten in my chest. Adele remained crouched in the same spot before her gaze flashed at me in clear annoyance before she had to physically turn her son’s head around till he was facing her once again.

"She saved you? How? From what? From a dagger she formulated so that we can be grateful to her or what?" She demanded, staring at her son sternly and he physically recoiled for a moment before carefully responding.

"I was sliding down the stairs railing and almost fell but she caught me." He finally admitted and I watched as Adele gritted her teeth tight, appearing extremely furious right before she screamed for her personal maids and that of her son and they instantly fell on their knees as soon as they arrived.

"Who was in charge of watching him when he was sliding down the freaking railing? What if he had hurt himself? Do you all want to lose your heads?!" She thundered and they all began to beg profusely. As I stared at the unfolding scene, I let out an irritating scoff just as my own maids climbed down the stairs, watching the unfolding scene wearily. As soon as they were at my side, and spun around and motioned for them to come with me.

However, Adele’s next words made me stop for a few seconds.

"No one asked you to save my son. A little fall wouldn’t have killed him, because I know you only did that so that Damon can see you as competent and start to contemplate letting you stay longer than the time he have in mind, but I’d advise you stop wasting your time because it’s pointless. Also keep your freak ass away from my son on moving forward."

I didn’t bother responding to her this time.

The walk was way enjoyable than I expected, for one, and I was experiencing a lot of things I never did back at home.

In this pack, the people didn’t mock me as I walk past, they weren’t laughing at me and calling me a freak, they weren’t pointing at me and telling about me right in my face. They weren’t even glancing st me more than once, they wernt paying my attention to me. For the first time, I was walking through a street and I felt... normal,

I’d have felt even more normal if I didn’t have two fierce looking guards walking right behind me right now, but I guess half bread was better than one, the guards game me some respectful distance so they wouldn’t be able to listen in whatever I might talk about with Iris and Ada, my two personal maids here in this pack. They were the ones taking me on this particular tour and were pointing at certain things for me to see.

"There’s a market that take place every two weeks. We can go together and you’d be able to get a lot of things!" Ada gushed out excitedly and I let out a small huff. Ada’s excitement cute, she had glistening dark skin and a very lethal face card that rivaled that of professional models. As for Iris, she had a rich brown skin and an adorable, oval face. From the way they’ve been sounding, I had a feeling they’ve known each other for years.

"I don’t have any money." I muttered absentmindedly and Iris’s eye’s gleamed as she let out a small grin.

"Since you’re Prince Damon’s mistress, you can just ask him for money and he’d definitely give you any amount you might need." She suggested and I frowned a little, feeling weird to be referred to as that again. I wanted to open up to her and Ada that I wasn’t actually a mistress of Damon but i remembered Damon’s warning and refrained from doing that. If I really wanted to survive here, I have to make sure everyone believes that I’m his mistress and nothing more."

"I might just do that." I finally responded as wa continued to walk. The pack was genuinely beautiful, and way more advanced than my father’s pack. That made me wonder why this pack was still backward in certain things like uplifting women for example.

"What do you know of the princes?" I asked after a little while and the girls exchanged looks before glancing back at me.

"The three princes?" Ada asked and I hummed with a nod.

"Oh, not much. They’re rarely here together since the other two prince’s have neighboring packs that they’re in charge of." Iris began and I listened attentively,

"However, from the little I’ve witnessed, Prince Damon is the scariest, which is ironic since he’s the youngest. They’re all really powerful and have all refused to get married to their betrothed for years, leading the throne vulnerable because their father, the king is already getting old."

Iris paused this time and Ada continued.

"There’s a rumor about them that goes around though," Ada began and my eyes widened as I huddled closer to them, feeling extremely curious.

"What kind of rumor?"

"That the three of them might be cursed," Ada revealed and my eyes widened, mouth falling open in shock. That was the last thing I expected to hear,

"Cursed?" I blurted and Ada nodded vigorously.

"Yes, my lady. The rumor has been around the palace for years, and even around the pack itself. Some believed it’s just a simple rumor but others believed those rumors might really be true." She explained and I hummed.

"What’s the rumor’s speculation?"

"It is said that they turn into monsters and feeds on the heart of rogues every night."

When my mouth fell open this time, I was unable to close it.

~~~
I was walking through the east wing, making my way to my bedroom so I could rest after that enjoyable walk and also process the entire conversation I had with Ada and Iris, and I didn’t notice it before it was too late but I walked right into a hard chest.
I cursed and backed away, already apologizing but on glancing up, the words died on my tongue because the man staring down at me right now looked so good that it took me by complete surprise. He glanced down at me slowly before his eyes brightened. I had thought he’d be furious but he offered me a warm smile
"An angel on earth? Or a fairy? What are you?" He drawled and I felt myself blush a little. He held a hand out to me and I hesitated for a moment before slipping my hand into his larger one, which he lifted up and brushed his lips against, and then he was flashing me another grin.
Before I could attempt to say a thing, footsteps echoed closer and closer till a heavy hand clamped over my waist, tugging me against a hard chest and I gasped just as Damon’s scent flooded my lungs.
"Hello, lovely cousin." The man who I had walked right into drawled and I found myself stiffening even more,
That was Damon’s cousin.
Damon’s face was expressionless and. I glanced up at him, but his touch burned through my cloth to sear against my waist.
"Archer." He spoke gruffly. "If you’ll excuse us, I’d like to have a word with my mistress."
Damon didn’t wait for a response, he just whirled around and tugged me along with him till we were stepping into a large room and he was pushing it shut, and then he dropped his hand, granting me to ability to breathe again.
"That guy out there? Archer? You have to avoid him at all costs."
