Chapter 219: Is He a Good Man?
Chapter 219: Is He a Good Man?
It was almost dawn, and yet Nikolai was still wide awake in their bed. He didn’t know how long he had been staring at his wife ever since she passed out a while ago from another intense lovemaking, but he had no intentions of stopping all the same. In truth, he wanted to go for more, but his wife was simply too exhausted to continue. So instead, he let her rest for some time.
"I’m so weak when it comes to you," he breathed out as he gently caressed her cheek.
He knew he couldn’t just stay mad at his wife for too long time. Just from the brief time that they were apart, it already felt like it was driving him insane. His feelings for her were so strong that he even doubted if there would be anything she would do that he couldn’t forgive. He never thought that he would come this far for someone, but he guessed that fate had other plans.
Beside him, Mineah stirred, and Nikolai quickly pulled her closer into his arms, cuddling her as if he was afraid to let her go.
[Brother.]
Nikolai smiled as he heard Ezme contact him through their sibling bond. He already knew why his sister was calling. He just needed a bit more confirmation.
[Our men are ready to go back home...] she reported. [They will be arriving in a few days.]
He hummed in satisfaction at the news. Helion’s army had retreated, so there was no longer a reason for them to stay in the encampment. Ebodia’s army was getting ready to go back home as well. Still...
[They?] he questioned.
[Well, I...]
[You! Mother was so worried about you that she kept asking me to order you to come back,] Nikolai scolded. [Bring him home. You’re powerful. You can bring him here in a snap in your mist form. Let Mother at least meet that man you’ve been obsessing about!]
He rolled his eyes as he heard her sister start sputtering. Even if he wasn’t present on the battlefield, he had eyes everywhere, and he tasked some of them to monitor his sister. While he trusted her capabilities at war, that didn’t mean he wouldn’t worry about her. Ezme was dear to him, and he wanted to make sure that nothing would ever happen to her.
[But that man’s pretty tough, Brother. Can we give him more time?] Ezme reasoned. [You see, things are complicated right now.]
[You have a duty here in our kingdom, Ezme,] Nikolai reminded her. [Must I remind you that you’re the Minister of Defence?]
There was silence as his sister mulled over her words... Clearly, she was trying to come up with something to get him to allow her to stay.
[But, Brother... I’ve never felt this way in my years of immortality. Can you help me just this once? I want to win his heart, and I promise you I’ll bring him home as soon as I can to formally introduce him to you and Mother,] she insisted. [Besides, the war isn’t over yet. Prince Ezekiel strongly believes that Devon is still on his move and that their armies retreating was just another part of his plan. I want to assist and-]
[You. Get him here this instant so we can talk about your union!] Nikolai ordered, cutting her off using his authority. [I will not allow you to stay there without a proper stand on your current issue. You’re a Princess of our kingdom, Ezme! If you can’t bring him here, then come home. That’s an order!]
It was just the principle of the matter. He refused to let his sister chase some man like that.
There was a loud sigh on the other end of the line before Ezme finally replied in a downcasted tone. [You do know that there will come a time that you and Mother will have to let me go...]
[I know, Ezme, but we have to do things properly. We cannot just let you do what you want. Please listen just this once and don’t break mine and Mother’s heart,] he firmly stated. [We want to send you off properly. I’ll send a formal request to Ebodia if you’re really decided on being with that man.]
[Alright then, Brother," Ezme sighed. [Let me have a few days, then I’ll give you my final decision on the matter.]
From there, their conversation died down as they moved on to more important matters. Once they were done, Nikolai then cut off the connection. And just in time as well as Mineah began to stir in his arms.
Tiredly, Mineah moved and tilted her head to look at him. "You didn’t sleep?" she sluggishly asked. "Is it morning already?"
Smiling, Nikolai kissed the tip of her nose as he replied, "It’s almost dawn, Mine. Rest some more. You need it."
She stared at him for some time, seemingly noticing his expression, and asked, "What’s wrong? You look bothered?"
"This Atlas," Nikolai mentioned in reply. "Is he a good man?"
Mineah’s lips stretched wide as she straightforwardly answered, "He’s a good man, Lai. All of the women in our kingdom are eyeing him, aside from my brother, of course. I also had a crush on him back then, but then I read how his thoughts only involved my Big Sister, so I decided not to look too much into him."
Nikolai couldn’t help himself as he frowned. His wife’s last words left a bitter taste in his mouth for some reason, and Mineah probably realized just what exactly caused it as she quickly caressed his face and leaned forward to give his lips a tender kiss.
"Nothing beats you though, Lai. You’re not just a crush. I love you, and in my eyes, you’re the best man ever," she sincerely whispered into his lips. "I’m really fortunate and blessed to have you in my life, Lai."
Nikolai smiled. His wife really knew how to easily calm him down. Her lips tasted so sweet and intoxicating as ever, and he couldn’t help himself as he felt himself getting hard again. He couldn’t get enough of her, and he was once again lost as he found himself following her lips before she suddenly backed away.
"I need to go to the bath," she timidly whispered.
Mineah didn’t ever bother turning around she got up naked from bed and picked up her clothes. Her eyes narrowed, and she frowned as she noticed her torn clothes.
"You didn’t use magic?" she burst out as she turned to look at him. "I loved this dress."
"I’ll just ask the royal seamstress to make you another one," Nikolai smirked with a shrug. "I was just so carried away that I feel like I forgot that I can use magic to undress you. I guess I went too feral..."
Mineah only let out a sigh as she shrugged. "You did," she mumbled. "I feel sore all over my body."
Nikolai chuckled as he stood up and followed behind his wife. "I will help you heal then," he cooed as he quickly scooped her into his arms in one swift motion. "Let’s have a relaxing healing bath together, Mine. It’ll help your body recover..."
"You know healing spells?" Mineah curiously asked.
"Not much since we vampires don’t need it. You do the spell, Mine. You can get the energy you need from me," he firmly instructed. "Also, don’t ever use your newly-acquired energy inside your body again unless we’ve confirmed that it will not affect the chaos inside of you. From now on, whatever you do... use and get the energy you need from me like before."
