Chapter 198: No Ordinary Human

Chapter 198: No Ordinary Human

’Was it my blood? Or the divine dagger inside of me?’ Mineah wondered, her gaze fixated on the now-lifeless rogue that lay before her, which had transformed back into its original form. She absorbed the dark magic from the lifeless rogue wondering what changes it would do to her body.

She looked around blinking several times when a shiver crept down her spine.

"Red..." she whispered her voice barely more than a breath, her attention captured by the crimson luminescence emanating from the bodies of the infected soldiers.

"Can you see it Lai?" she muttered as she eyed every infected soldier.

"Mine, we have to secure you and the rest. Come now," she heard Nikolai’s shaking voice. "I have already ordered a lockdown in this province. This infection must be contained before it reaches the Capital."

"I can still save some of them, Lai. Their aura is still red. If I’m right, then that means I..."

"Milady," Niran called. Only then did Mineah notice that Niran had already cast a protective barrier that separated the uninfected from the infected.

"We need to move now!" Raul’s reminder cut through her thoughts.

"But what about the rest?" Mineah asked. They couldn’t simply abandon the situation in its current state. The infection would only spread further affecting many innocent lives inside the province.

The little girl she held in her arms continued to sob as she stared in a particular direction. "Please save my mother," she begged through her cries.

Mineah followed the girl’s gaze, her heart clenching as she spotted the child’s mother, now succumbing to the infection. The dark veins marred her once-pale skin, her eyes a void of black as she moved like a rogue.

’Red... She’s still alive and can be saved,’ Mineah realized. The red on her body was still overpowering the black that was slowly taking over her body.

"Niran, can you shift the barrier to block the infected instead?" Mineah asked to which Niran nodded.

"Do it now!" she said. With practiced skill, Niran started chanting, transferring the barrier around them to cover all the infected with some of the soldiers inside fighting them.

Mineah stared at the open wound on her arm caused by one of the rogue’s claws.

’A drop of my blood,’ she mused.

Releasing the divine dagger inside her body, Mineah slashed her hand and started chanting as droplets of her blood fell on NIkolai’s sword.

"Take this sword and wound our people that got infected. I’m not sure if this will work but it’s worth the try," Mineah instructed, ignoring the frown on her husband.

She knew he had many questions inside his head but now was not the time for it. They had to act fast now or else it would be too late to save those who haven’t transformed.

"Go, now!" Mineah commanded. Without hesitation, Nikolai moved within the protective barrier and executed the unorthodox plan, wounding the little girl’s mother.

Mineah watched carefully for any sign of change. A collective gasp swept through the air as a dark wisp emerged from the woman’s form, a visual manifestation of the dangerous infection being expelled. The transformation was almost surreal as color returned to her eyes, her body shedding the sinister hues and becoming normal.

"It’s working, Milady!" Niran gasped. Without wasting more time, Mineah turned to Raul and shouted, "Your sword!"

Despite his initial daze, Raul responded with haste, offering his sword to Mineah. She allowed her blood to mix with the blade, casting a spell that coated the entire blade with it.

"Help my husband now!" she instructed the Prince, her focus unwavering even amidst the whirlwind of events.

"Swords and arrows now!"

Niran’s eyes widened as every soldier put their weapons in front of Mineah. "Milady, you must not deplete your energy!" she reminded.

Mineah managed to just give Niran a reassuring smile.

As soon as drops of her blood fell on the weapons, Mineah cast a spell in it. She almost slumped by the time she was done and said, "Hurry and save the others."

The soldiers quickly grabbed the sword and did what needed to be done. Unable to stand after losing so much blood, she swayed and had to be held up by others.

"Are you alright, Your Majesty?"

Mineah nodded weakly with a smile. One of the women quickly wrapped her wounds and said, "The scent of your blood is affecting the other vampires, Your Majesty, except for us Melds, Your Majesty..."

Mineah looked around and gulped when the Curbs around her gulped while drooling at her. Their red eyes glowing, she could tell they were struggling and fighting off their urge to attack and drink her blood.

Mineah cursed her luck. Her blood’s scent was different from human blood which might be that much more enticing to them. Nikolai even described it as heavenly.

[Mine, cover your scent!] Nikolai cautioned her through their bond.

With a whispered chant, she masked the scent of her blood, a last-ditch effort to thwart the primal instincts of the vampires around her. Beads of sweat dotted her brow, but she didn’t know if it was because she cast a powerful spell using her blood or because of the dark energy she had absorbed from the infected a while ago.

Nevertheless, she was glad she managed to do so much. If it was before, she probably would have collapsed after casting a spell on Nikolai’s sword alone.

She watched as Nikolai and the rest cleared all the infected. They stabbed them with weapons that had her blood in them. As the final threat dissipated, Niran’s barrier fell, leaving her visibly drained and breathless.

"Ah, I miss Dani and the rest, Milady. But I’m glad I was at your side and was able to be of help like old times," Niran weakly humored.

Mineah chuckled and thought it would indeed have been nice if all her shadow maidens were there. "They missed all the action," she jokingly replied.

She was still smiling when her eyes darted to Nikolai who was approaching her. [Look at you frowning when we succeeded in saving our people,] she teased through their bond. She knew there was no escaping now, she had to tell Nikolai that she was no ordinary human being...

’Oh Big Brother, I’m sorry... I messed up...’

But for some reason, Mineah’s focus faltered as her surroundings began to blur. She knew Nikolai was trying to say something through their bond but she could no longer understand what was it. Still, even in her weakened state, she managed to whisper, "We did it, Lai."

Before she knew it, everything faded and turned pitch black as her body totally gave in.

"Your Majesty!!!!"

"Mine!!"
