Chapter 181: What to Do

It was already dark out, but Dahlia couldn’t fall asleep despite her best efforts. All the revelations Zoran just told her kept on plaguing her mind. How could she sleep when she felt like her head would burst from all of the information she just received?

Sighing, she restlessly got up on her bed and stared at the small bottle on her bedside table. Zoran gave her a choice now on whether or not she wanted to continue drinking the potion or not... A choice on if she wanted her memories to return or not.

Her face darkened... Thinking about it, she interpreted it more as Zoran wanting her to choose between him and her past lover Nikolai.

For five years, she had been with no one but him. She may have lost her memories, but that didn’t mean she was dumb. She was aware of Zoran’s feelings for her. He had been with her every step of the way, helping her recuperate and get her back to her full strength. He...

Dahlia bit her lower lip as she fought the urge to cry. For some reason, her heart ached for Zoran, but a part of her still wanted to find her true self, and she had to remember her past for that to happen. She had always felt like something was amiss, and it was because she didn’t really know who she truly really was.

Sighing once more, she walked out of her room and made her way to the kitchen area. She wanted to get something to drink to help her sleep. Probably milk or something strong like alcohol.

"Right, alcohol would be better at this rate," she mumbled to herself as she promptly turned around and took long strides toward the cellar instead. She and Zoran lived inside a hidden cave in a virgin forest. It was protected by his magic, and he also used it to expand the cave’s insides so that it would look like a comfortable home for both of them to stay in.

Thinking about it now, she could say that Zoran had been honest with her from the start; telling her everything she wanted to know except for the truth about the potion he was giving her... that it was actually preventing her from regaining her memories.

She was also aware of how he sold himself to Devon to save her life. Well, he didn’t really tell that to her directly, but she accidentally overheard his conversation with the Demon King of the Helion Kingdom. That bastard was threatening Zoran at the time, reminding him of how he let Zoran save her.

Shaking her head, Dahlia shrugged as she stopped to check on the bottles of alcohol in the cellar. Zoran wasn’t aware that she knew about this stash...

"What to get..."

Whispering to herself, her brows raised as she saw a particular bottle positioned in a high rack. Tiptoeing up to reach for it, she was struggling to get her fingers around when the light suddenly dimmed around her. She then felt a familiar warmth wrapping around her from behind.

"You could’ve asked me to get it for you," Zoran’s husky voice touched her ear.

Dahlia held her breath as she felt her heart skip a beat. She couldn’t help but wonder if Zoran was ever aware of her feelings for him. It wasn’t much of a surprise for her to develop feelings for him in the five years she lived with him. He did nothing but take good care of her and cater to all of her demands and needs. They would have arguments, of course, but he would always humble himself and approach her first to try and apologize.

All in all, he was just a good man to her.

"Why do you want to drink this?" he asked. "You tend to snap whenever you get drunk."

Her face reddened in embarrassment as the memory of the last time she drank came to her. She got drunk one time, and Zoran told her that she acted crazy whenever she was like that. She also tended not to remember what happened to her after she would inevitably pass out from her drinking spells.

"I just want to take a small sip to help me sleep," she confessed. "I can’t sleep..."

"I understand. Just make sure you won’t get drunk," Zoran nodded in understanding. "Remember, whatever your decision is, I will always respect it, Dahlia..."

Dahlia smiled even as she felt conflicted with her choices. For some reason, she didn’t like the feeling of him letting go of her this easily. After everything he did for her, why did it sound like he didn’t have any problems with letting her go? Did he not want to hold onto her? Although, if he kept being like this, it would probably make it easier for her to come up with a final decision.

She pressed her lips as she slowly turned around to face him... Letting out a sigh, she stared into his forest-green orbs which complimented his wavy ginger long hair. He was gorgeous, and he could probably attract any woman with just a glance.

Noticing her gaze, he also began staring at her. As if both of them were smitten, Zoran then leaned closer, and Dahlia unknowingly closed her eyes in anticipation.

However, the moment she saw darkness, a face of a handsome man appeared before her. He had this winter gold hair on him that looked so good with his amber eyes. He was smiling as he tucked a peach-colored dahlia flower into her ear as he whispered to her...

"Pretty..."

"Nikolai," she whispered back.

Dahlia quickly opened her eyes as she realized what she did. Snapping back to reality, she could only watch as. Zoran’s face dimmed right before her eyes. He was already close to her, their faces only an inch apart, and that didn’t stop her from noticing how poorly he was taking her slip of the tongue.

"Zoran," she weakly gasped.

Shaking, he backed away before quickly turning around and leaving. Left behind, Dahlia felt like she had just been splashed in the face with a bucket of cold water.

What she did was unforgivable and embarrassing. She inwardly cursed as her knees weakened, causing her body to slump to the ground. Despite this, her mind wandered back to the vision of the man she called Nikolai. There, she felt something sharp pierce inside her chest. She felt like she was losing her breath just at the thought of him.

Nikolai Ichor, the King of Valcrez... That was the man that Zoran told her was the one who killed her. He was her lover who had been feeding on her every full moon, and eventually took her life by draining her of her blood. But then, everything became clear as the truth came out.

"I want to see Nikolai, but I also don’t want to leave Zoran here all by himself..." she weakly murmured.

Dahlia hugged her knees and bowed her head as she started sobbing. She was torn and confused. She didn’t know what to do or how to proceed.

How? Why? Why did she have to choose?
