Chapter 177: The Most Powerful Tool
Chapter 177: The Most Powerful Tool
Mineah slowly opened her eyes, and once again, the solemn and worried face of her husband was the first thing that greeted her. For the first time, she had used the newly awakened energy in her body, and she just hoped that she hadn’t overdone it. She wasn’t aware of its full capacity and how much she was allowed to use of it just yet, and there was no telling what it could do to her.
"How are you feeling?" Nikolai asked as he helped her get up from bed
"I’m feeling better," she sluggishly reassured him. "How long did I pass out this time?"
"Almost a whole day, Mine," Nikolai replied.
She nodded in slight relief. That didn’t sound too bad. However...
"What about my brother and Tarah?" she hastily asked as she stared closely at her husband. "Wizard Lurio? Did they all make it out alright?"
"They’re all safe, Mine," Nikolai smiled. "You don’t need to worry..."
"I want to see my brother and Tarah then," she whispered as she quickly moved to get out of bed.
"Have something to eat first. All of them are well, although Ezekiel is still unconscious and Mother is closely monitoring his condition as we speak," Nikolai sternly stated. "For now, let me feed you first before I let you out of this bed."
Mineah blinked as she then watched her husband grab the nearby tray of food and sat on the edge of the bed. Letting herself relax, she let him feed her to his best efforts.
Although, the more she observed him, the more she noticed that he was sulking. She would’ve pointed it out immediately, but she was starving, so she decided to eat first before discussing with him why he had such a gloomy expression.
"Drink the milk," Nikolai told her after the last piece of meat they had was shoved into her mouth.
Without a word, Mineah accepted the glass of milk and drank it. Blinking in satisfaction, she gave him a look as she finally found it in herself to ask him what was wrong.
"Are you mad at me?" she directly asked. "Why are you sulking?"
His brow wrinkled, Nikolai sat on the bed as he blankly stared at her. "Yes, I’m mad. How could you just appear like that out of nowhere right in front of danger?" he ground out. "Do you know how much you’re killing me every time I see you in danger?!"
Mineah sighed. Instead of arguing with him, she decided to pounce on him, hugging him tightly as she whispered, "I’m sorry, Lai, but can you blame me? I love my brother and he’s very dear to me. I would do anything just to save him."
There was a deafening silence as she hung from his neck, and all Mineah could hear was her husband’s exasperated sighs.
"Nothing bad happened, right?" she reassured him with a pout. "And besides... I’m healthier now, and I can feel the strong power growing inside of me. I’ll be able to protect myself in no time."
"That’s not the point here, Mine. That power isn’t safe to use. Didn’t you say that it would cause chaos if you’re unable to control it?" Nikolai reminded her. "It’s much better for you not to use it at all because of the danger it can cause to your body..."
"That’s true, but this power I now have in me can also be an advantage once I properly learn how to control it, Lai," she reasoned. "I will work hard in that direction so that instead of bringing chaos... I’ll be able to use it to save the people I love instead."
Besides, for some reason, she felt confident that she would succeed in breaking her curse and controlling the chaos in her. She was just that determined to succeed no matter what.
She gently pushed Nikolai away. "How about instead of scolding me, can you at least let me see my brother?" she pouted. "I need to speak with Tarah regarding some important matters as well."
Seeing his wife’s stubbornness, Nikolai shrugged in resignation. "Alright then. Come and I’ll walk you to his tent.."
With that, the couple quickly left their tent and promptly headed to Ezekiel’s tent. Inside, Mineah saw Tarah and her mother talking. She then turned to Nikolai whom she gave a knowing look. Understanding what she was trying to say, her husband wordlessly excused himself and went outside.
"How are you feeling?" her mother asked as soon as they were alone. Like Nikolai, she had this gloomy expression on her, and Mineah could only bite her lower lip knowing that she would receive yet another batch of scoldings.
"I’m doing good, Mother," she answered with an awkward smile as she readied herself for her mother’s inevitable nagging.
"How can you recklessly make a move like that without consulting me?! Didn’t we agree not to use the power inside of you since we’re not sure how your body will react to it yet?" her mother scolded with narrowed eyes.
"And that’s not to mention that with only one wrong move, the chaos inside of you might start consuming you. You’re not even waiting for the bloody moon to appear anymore, Mineah! Must I remind you that you will be the one who will bring that bloody moon into this world?!"
’But I can’t just stay idle and let Nikolai see Ezekiel in his dragon form. There are too many possibilities, and everything is worth the risk if it meant Brother would be safe,’ Mineah inwardly retorted. ’We’re lucky that Ezekiel’s in his human form when Nikolai saw him, but then Helion’s men tried to capture him, and...’
Just thinking about it all was making her eyes well up. But just before she thought she was going to cry, her body stiffened as she felt her mother’s embrace.
"I’m sorry, my daughter. It’s just that... I was so worried," her mother sobbed into her shoulder. "Everything is just so messed up. Ezekiel fighting Vulcan inside of him... your sister Xenia now fighting to survive her trials in the Element Forest... And then you... with your Chaos awakening and threatening to fulfill the curse."
She took a deep breath as she fought through the tears, "Just that.... Oh, I’m so sorry, dear. I didn’t mean to scold you like this. You did great in helping to save your brother, but please... Next time, don’t put yourself at risk anymore like this..."
Feeling her mother’s love and affection, Mineah finally burst out crying as well. "It’s alright, Mother. I’m sorry too," she weakly apologized. "I know you’ve been through a lot of emotional turmoil recently, but please... Trust me. I know my capabilities."
While it might have sounded arrogant to others, it was anything but as Mineah flashed her mother a confident smile. She had a strong faith in the heavens, and her will to survive whatever trials might come her way would surely see her through.
Smiling, Mineah looked at Tarah who was currently sitting on a chair beside her brother’s bed. The seer was staring closely at her brother as she murmured, "Helion will not stop until they get a hold of the dragon inside Ezekiel’s body. It is the most powerful tool Devon can use to conquer the world under his feet." Tarah then looked up at them and gravely said, "With the dragon alone, he can easily take down both Cordon and Valcrez and whoever stands in his way."
