Chapter 172: Unable to Enter Her Dream
"Sister." Mineah beamed while approaching her sister Xenia.
"Mineah, you made it!" Xenia smiled at her.
"I wouldn’t miss it for the world, Sis," Mineah commented with her brightest smile. Her big sister looked stunning in her wedding gown.
A brief second of silence passed between them, their parents seemingly giving them the space they needed before they inevitably hugged one another. Her sister’s warm embrace was a feeling Mineah had also sorely missed. Their brief time together at Valcrez did little to sate her wants of being close to her big sister.
"I’m so glad you’re here," Xenia tearily said. "A part of me thought that..."
"Don’t worry, Sis. Mother and I wouldn’t miss such an important part of your life," Mineah lovingly reassured, the unsaid subject lingering in the air as she spoke aloud. "Big Brother Ezekiel isn’t able to be with us right now, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be here as well."
Mineah was somber even as she smiled, her hands holding Xenia’s as they held one another for comfort. This should be a joyous celebration for her sister but she understood how uneasy Xenia still was since she had no news about Ezekiel. Their mother hadn’t told her the good news of them already finding Ezekiel.
"What is the news then?" Xenia tersely asked.
Mineah looked around to make sure they had enough privacy before she answered, "We have fortunately found him but he’s still unable to fully control the dragon’s soul inside of him," she whispered with a sigh. "It isn’t advisable for him to be around others just yet."
"Don’t worry, Xenia. We’re doing everything in our power to help him," their father reassured her with a smile.
"Indeed," their mother nodded along. "Your sister and I are closely looking after him."
Mineah nodded with a smile when Xenia turned to her, hoping it would be enough to reassure her big sister.
Xenia looked back at their parents, her father’s hand already reaching out to her which she promptly took hold of.
Mineah watched as Xenia walked towards her groom when she felt Nikolai’s familiar hand clasping hers. The two of them quietly walked and sat on the chairs assigned to them.
The wedding ceremony started, and silence reigned as they witnessed it.
[Mine what did you mean when you said that it would be the last time you’ll take energy from me?] Nikolai suddenly asked through their bond.
Mineah closed her eyes in defeat. She knew it was only time before Nikolai started asking her questions.
’I should tell him everything about my curse,’ she thought. This would at least lessen the guilt of keeping things from him creeping inside her.
[My chaos... the strong power connected to my curse was awakened, Lai. It’s slowly making my physical constitution strong as well.] She started. Her body was still adjusting to this sudden change but she was hopeful she can continue to control it no matter what.
[Tell me everything and please don’t leave a single detail.] It almost sounded like he was pleading with her.
She took a deep breath and made up her mind. There was no turning back now. Mineah started narrating every detail related to her curse which she hadn’t mentioned to Nikolai. She openly shared everything about her curse, the nightmare, the premonitions, and Seer Beirut’s vague vision of how she could possibly end it.
Surprisingly, this conversation starter brought a smile to her face. She and Nikolai were there to witness her sister’s wedding, but it ended up with them communicating through their bond.
[Can I look at the dagger later, Mine?] Nikolai suddenly asked.
[No!] she firmly replied. There was no way she would let him lay eyes on that dagger. She made sure to keep it hidden within her body so that Nikolai would never even catch a glimpse of it.
[I just want to have a look, Mine. You can just show it to me and take it back,] Nikolai persisted.
[This is why I didn’t want to tell you about that nightmare, Lai. You’ll never see that dagger so don’t waste your time persuading me,] she strongly remarked.
*******
Nikolai’s mind drifted somewhere else as the wedding ceremony of his dear friend and Mineah’s sister continued.
’So that’s the secret she’s keeping,’ Nikolai thought but deep inside he had a lingering feeling that there was more to the matter which she hadn’t revealed. Still, he was grateful that she had been completely honest about her curse and everything related to it, including Seer Beirut’s last words to her.
Now that he knew about her curse, he couldn’t shake off the worry that it would consume her. Now, he was determined and vowed to be by her side, ready to face all the challenges ahead and find a way to overcome the curse together.
[You’ve been sighing a lot, Lai. Don’t think of anything foolish because it’s not your immortal heart that I need to stab to break this curse. That dream of mine was nothing but a nightmare.]
[A premonition, Mine...] Nikolai corrected.
Mineah turned to him with a frown and whispered, "A nightmare. Period."
He couldn’t help but chuckle as he shook his head, finding her glare adorable.
"Fine, my little swan." He leaned closer and mischievously whispered in her ear, "Next time, I’ll enter that nightmare and turn it into an erotic dream instead."
Her face flushed with a deep red and which delighted him. He was very glad to see her loosen up a bit. Earlier, he could feel her hands trembling against his while she was telling him everything.
He held her hand firmly, gently planting sweet kisses on it as the wedding ceremony was about to end. He wanted his wife to have fun without any worries.
However, his face turned serious as he thought about Mineah’s nightmare. For some reason, he was unable to enter her dream and see what was happening during that time. Now, everything made sense. It was because of that powerful energy that awakened inside of her.
Looks like he can no longer pry into his beloved wife’s dream anymore...
