The Crown's Seduction -
Chapter 119: Vulcan
Chapter 119: Vulcan
Mineah had a lot inside her mind as she started her day with the same routine. As usual, she made her way towards the private room in the throne hall where Nikolai was currently waiting for her before they could have breakfast together.
"Good morning, Mine," Nikolai greeted her with his usual charming and handsome face.
She simply smiled as she sat on her chair. There were still a lot of things on her mind, but it would be best if she kept them close to her chest for now. At least until she had more information and things were clearer.
"You seem bothered," he commented as he sat close beside her and started filling up her plate with some bread, eggs, and cheese.
Mineah bit her lower lip and creased her forehead as she blankly stared at the plate before her.
"Is it about Abel and Lady Dani?" Nikolai murmured.
Mineah simply nodded. Of course, it wasn’t all about Dani. If only she could tell him everything... Unfortunately, things were not that simple.
"Here," Nikolai hummed as he grabbed a piece of bread and hovered it over her mouth. "Open up."
She turned to him, her expression slowly blanking out even as he hummed to her with a smile. He was about to feed her, and she didn’t know whether to feel happy about it despite all the bad news piling up inside her head.
’I wonder if the news had already reached him about the dragon’s appearance...’ she inwardly sighed. ’It should be impossible that it hadn’t reached him yet... Why hasn’t he opened up about it?’
Regardless, she obediently opened her mouth and accepted him feeding her like that. Although she was optimistic about everything, the fact remained that she still felt out of the weather that day.
"Do you want me to talk to Abel about this?" Nikolai offered. "Although, I strongly believe that his decision to take responsibility is the appropriate course of action."
"Dani will talk to him," Mineah murmured. "She said she will handle the situation. Either way, I’ll support whatever decision she might come up with."
Nikolai hummed as he continued feeding her. "By the way, I received news from Darius," he casually informed her. "He will visit our Kingdom after your sister’s training at the Miran Ocean and Valcor Island so that you and your sister can reunite."
Mineah’s face lit up at the sudden news. Stretching her lips wide, she hummed, "That’s so nice of him! That’s after only a few days, right?"
Almost immediately, she started counting down the days since her sister started her training. Judging from when she started, it would probably take around eight more days before she could see her sister. That was something to look forward to. But then... she remembered something.
"But the Midnight Sun Waiting..." she sighed as her shoulders slumped. "Will they allow me to go out? I mean, it would be nice if my sister and I can stroll around outside the palace too while she’s here."
"Don’t worry, the Midnight Sun will soon come, Mine," Nikolai firmly stated.
"How do you know?" she snorted with a pout "I’ve been monitoring things from the Bureau of Astronomy, but none of them could give a reliable estimate."
"You’ve been monitoring it?" Nikolai asked her with his sparkling eyes.
She blushed hard as she defended, "What are you even thinking? Of course, I’m monitoring it since I can’t wait to be out and be free to roam around whenever I want!" She scoffed as she chastised, "Stop thinking silly things!"
Blinking at her, Nikolai quickly sported a teasing smile as he humored her. "Hmm... Silly things such as? Can you enlighten me more?" he humorously asked. "What is it that I probably thought that would be silly?"
Mineah inwardly clicked her tongue. This man was teasing her again. "I’m sure you’re thinking that I can’t wait to be with you," she challenged with a raised brow. "That’s what you think why I was monitoring when the Midnight Sun would come."
"Aren’t you?" he pondered with a pout.
Mineah squinted as she stared at Nikolai. She didn’t know whether to laugh or ignore her husband as he stared at her intently with a pout. He looked so adorable like that, but it was also laughably childish for someone of his standing. Not that she cared. He still looked adorable.
Eventually, she let out a sigh and looked straight into his eyes as she confessed, "Fine, I can’t wait to be with you."
This time, she was the one who was blinking rapidly at him. She couldn’t believe that he would blush from what she just said.
"Did I just make your heart flutter, Lai?" she excitedly inquired.
If this was the case, then maybe she should be more vocal and make his heart flutter like this. Who knew that saying sweet words like this would be effective?!
Shaking his head, Nikolai chuckled before quickly changing the subject. "Have you received the news about a dragon that had been spotted near the Ebodian Camp?"
Mineah swallowed the bread she just ate and quickly drank the tea in front of her. It was only inevitable that this talk would happen, and she cleared her throat as she replied, "Yes. The news came to me just this morning."
"I see..." Nikolai murmured.
She bit her inner cheek as she contemplated on whether or not to ask Nikolai more about his take on the news. She was aware of the story of how dragon souls tried their luck in merging with all kinds of beings...
In particular, they lingered more around powerful vampires that so far had managed to withstand housing their spirit within them longer than any other beings that ended up dead as soon as they were inside.
"My father died because of a dragon soul, Mine. Not just my father, but a lot of our kind as well," Nikolai opened up. "Something must have happened in the Forbidden Forest for a dragon spirit to escape. A golden dragon was spotted, and there is only one golden dragon out there, Mine. It’s the King of the Dragons, Vulcan."
"Vulcan is the dragon that merged with your father, right?" Mineah murmured.
"Yes, and he ended up as ash after barely more than a day," Nikolai answered in his lowest tone.
She stared at him with worry. There, she saw how his eyelids drooped at the memory of the incident. Letting out a soft sigh, she gently cupped his face. Biting her inner cheek, she now stared straight ahead at those downcast eyes of his.
"I’m sorry..." she whispered. "It must have been hard."
Nikolai forced himself to smile. "My father and I were so close, Mine. I have great respect for him, and while he might have a reputation for having many mistresses, but as a father... he’s been very good to me," he sincerely stated. "He has been the best father for me, Mine. So when he died, it felt like I just lost the greatest pillar in my life."
He gritted his teeth as he growled, "Vulcan... I will definitely destroy him no matter what."
Mineah couldn’t help the sudden tightness in her chess as the sinking feeling of dread settled in her stomach... Vulcan was the name of the dragon that her dear brother was being merged to right now.
’This can’t be... I won’t lose my brother, nor you, Nikolai,’ she firmly thought, determined to do everything in her power to save the two men that she loves.
