Chapter 110: Owed Her Life

Chapter 110: Owed Her Life

Mineah was back at Amaranth Palace and wandered through the beautiful garden accompanied by Dani. Although the palace garden was a sight to behold, she couldn’t help but yearn for her own garden back in Ebodia. She liked ornamental plants but she found more solace in the herbs, wild plants, and flowers found in her garden which she could use in most of her potions.

Letting out a sigh, Mineah plucked a single rose stem and held it delicately in her hand.

"Milady, do you miss the solarium in Ebodia?" Dani’s voice broke the silence from behind her. She approached with a tray of freshly cut fruits and placed it on the table and joined her.

"Yes, I miss taking care of plants. I really can’t wait to grow the seeds and the plants we brought from Ebodia," she said, slightly excited. She had carefully collected rare and precious wild plants during her expeditions in various forests and safely brought them to Amaranth Palace. Since she had only one plant of each kind, she had planted them in pots to ensure their survival.

"Once the Midnight Sun arrives, we can finally settle in the main palace and build a new solarium for you," Dani hummed to which Mineah nodded in agreement.

"Everyone in the palace has become too busy after the incident with Rosela," she murmured because it was what she heard from Nik. Nikolai is personally overseeing everything, especially after Rosela’s confession about Helion’s spies infiltrating our kingdom.

"I’m sure they will be able to wrap up everything soon. It’s a good thing that the royal family is not involved in this. I worry about Niran... The last report we received suggests that Prince Raul is being approached by others with offers to join forces in overthrowing King Nikolai," Dani voiced out her concern.

Mineah started eating the cut fruits, looking at the stem of the red rose she had picked out.

"Milady," Dani called out. Mineah released a sigh and said, "Prince Raul seems sincere towards Niran. I’m sure Niran will be able to handle the situation well, Dani. I trust her... You should too. Niran knows what she’s doing," Mineah replied.

"You’re right, Milady. I shouldn’t worry much. Niran has always been the bravest among us. She has a strong will. I remembered her saying that fear has no power over her," Dani commented before eating fruits with her.

As they ate the fruits, Mineah’s thoughts drifted to Krisha and Zaila who were currently outside Amaranth Palace to oversee what was happening and help out Nikolai if needed.

Among her shadow maidens, Niran was the only low-born. When Niran was ten, Mineah saved her from being raped and killed after she ran away from an Ebodian merchant who bought her. According to Niran, her family was killed by outlaws, and Niran was sold as a slave.

Though Mineah was just seven, she was already proficient in using magic.

"She’s owed her life to you. I still remember how much I hated her when you almost died helping her. You were unconscious for a month because you used magic to save her. Krisha, Zaila, Laura, and I looked at Niran with hate all the time, not knowing what she had been through. None of us treated her nicely nor spoke to her until you woke up and scolded us," Dani recounted the past.

"Niran had endured so much pain and hardships at such a young age, and it took all of you a while to understand her struggles. Eventually, all of you understood and she became part of our chosen family," Mineah said.

"I am also worried about her but I respect her decision as much as I respect yours and the others’. I can only hope that she’ll lead a good life with Prince Raul. I have faith in Niran and that she will not let the Prince take the wrong path," Mineah commented. For some reason, she had a feeling that Niran could handle the Prince well.

"But if things don’t go well, I won’t stand by and do nothing. I will save Niran no matter the cost," Mineah declared with determination.

After a while, Krisha arrived and reported, "I already sent word to Laura to gather more information about Zoran."

Mineah nodded and dismissed the two to do their tasks. She stayed in her seat, eating fruits as she waited for darkness to fully consume her surroundings.

Nikolai had told her that they would talk later, which she guessed would be through their bond. She sighed softly as she waited for him to contact her first, knowing how busy her husband would be.

She gazed up at the darkening sky with a faint smile on her face and murmured, "The moon will rise soon." She was glad that the truth came to light. Nikolai was now free from his burdens and it wouldn’t be too hard to break the walls he built around his heart.

[Mine...] Her eyes and face lit up when his voice echoed in her mind.

[Yes, are you available to talk now, Lai?] she asked.

[Yes,] he replied. She was aware that he was waiting for an explanation. Taking a deep breath, Mineah composed herself and started telling Nikolai the truth about her special abilities.

[My eyes have unique powers, Lai. My right eye has the ability to compel, while my left eye can read thoughts. But these powers have limitations as I’m not able to cultivate my inner energy. I’m sorry I kept this from you. No one else knows about it, not even my family or my shadow maidens. You’re the only person who knows about it.] she lengthily explained, her words flowing with sincerity.

[It’s alright Mine. I understand why you have to hide it... Thank you for trusting me enough to share this with me...] he hummed. There was a brief moment of silence.

[I... I want to become one with you, Mine. I wish to be by your side right now and always... It feels so maddening to be apart,] Nikolai murmured with a heavy sigh. Mineah wanted it too but they had to be patient and wait until the arrival of the Midnight Sun.
