Chapter 100: The Truth (2)

Chapter 100: The Truth (2)

Predictably, the servant started crying.

"Queen Mother, I’m not lying. You can investigate everything and how close I am to Lady Rosela," the servant pleaded, her voice shaking as she did her best to defend herself.

"I... I practically owe h-her my everything and my life... So even though I was scared, I followed what s-she said. She promised she will take care of me and give me everything I-I want as soon as she becomes the new Queen... She thinks that she deserves to be the rightful Queen..."

While everyone was busy and Rosela was trying to explain herself and pointing the blame to the servant, Mineah took her time to recharge herself. She might need it soon, so it was better for her to fill her energy reserves now while everyone was distracted.

She usually did it while meditating, but lately, she discovered that she could easily get energy from Nikolai without much effort. It was probably because of their bond and his mark on her that made it happen no matter where or when she needed it.

Done with her quick recharge, Mineah turned to the Queen Mother and said, "Queen Mother... If you’ll allow me, I want to suggest a better way to find out the truth."

"Tell me then..." the Queen Mother all but demanded.

Mineah inwardly smirked. She didn’t know why no one was bothering to bring it up, but she might as well be the one to do it. "Please compel Lady Rosela to tell the truth about this incident," she suggested.

"I’m not sure if she can be compelled since I heard that vampires develop abilities once they’re turned, but it wouldn’t hurt to try. Even if Scions most commonly have resistance from hypnotism and compulsion, doing so might reveal things relevant to the situation."

Right away, Mineah clearly saw the hesitation in the Queen Mother’s eyes.

[Rosela has been here with us for so many years... She’s like a daughter to me. And while I won’t support her actions if she’s guilty, as much as possible, this case should be dealt with discreetly. After all, Rosela had contributed much to not just the Ichor and Ivanov Clans, but to Nikolai personally as well.]

Mineah inwardly sighed as she read the Queen Mother’s thoughts and worries. It would seem that she still had work to do to try and change her mind about Rosela.

"We must follow the proper protocols," Minister Haman interrupted after a curt bow to the Queen Mother. "Queen Mother, please let me take over this case. This is not the proper place to do such questioning."

[These women... Do they not see that I’m here and I’m the one in charge?!] Haman annoyingly thought.

Hearing the man’s thoughts, Mineah promptly turned to Rosela, whose sharp and dangerous eyes still lingered on the servant as she tried to see what she’d do next.

"Get the witness and have her locked up," Haman instructed the guards.

"What about Lady Rosela? If the witness is right, then that only means that she is involved with dark magic," Mineah authoritatively stated. "And as we all know, the use of any kind of dark magic is forbidden and must be dealt with by the law of Valcrez. We cannot let her roam around and coordinate with any more of her possible accomplices."

Seeing Rosela was about to speak, Mineah quickly continued, "As much as I don’t want to impose, we shouldn’t take these kinds of things lightly especially if someone is trying to frame me to replace me as the new Queen."

She let out a firm sigh as she declared, "I must find justice not just for the innocent servant that died here, but also for myself and my position as this kingdom’s Queen."

"I understand, Your Majesty," Haman answered. He then instructed the guards, "Get Lady Rosela and escort her to the dungeon prison as well."

"Queen Mother, please help me!" Rosela hysterically protested as she was grabbed by the guards. "I didn’t do anything! It’s I’m the one being framed by the Queen! I’m innocent!"

"If you’re truly innocent, then let’s follow the procedure, Rosela," the Queen Mother calmly stated with a blank expression. "Let the system prove that you are not guilty of this mess..."

Mineah watched as Rosela cried and sobbed while the guards dragged her away. She almost felt pity for the woman... Unfortunately, she still hated her too much to even care for her.

"We’ll conduct a further investigation on this matter as soon as possible," Haman informed her with a reassuring smile. "Once that is done, Lady Rosela will stand on trial, Your Majesty."

Then he added, "Also, you can come to my private chancery anytime if you wish to inquire about the proceedings of the investigations, Your Majesty."

[We can have so much fun inside my private chancery together. I will-]

Mineah blinked as she immediately stopped reading the man’s lewd thoughts. He probably believed that he could easily hypnotize and compel her to do his bidding.

Grating her teeth, she managed to give the Minister a half smile as she replied, "I’ll be looking forward to whatever results of this case then, Minister."

With that, the man soon bid his farewell and left the area. Likewise, the Queen Mother was turning to leave, but not before she asked, "Will you be alright here? I will need to return to Corvus Palace as well. If you need anything, you can call for me."

[This is a mess. I feel like my head will burst out open soon.]

Mineah curtly bowed as she filed what she just heard from her mother-in-law’s thoughts in the back of her head. "I will, Mother," she answered

It was understandable that the Queen Mother was conflicted about this mess with how close she was with Rosela. Then again, the latter obviously did everything she could to get close to Nikolai and his family.

"Milady," Dani called to her from behind as Mineah watched the retreating back of her mother-in-law. "What now?"

"We need to find out everything we can about this," Mineah began. "Ask help from Taro and the rest of Nikolai’s shadow knights if you can to gain more access to this investigation."

She then sighed as she stated, "You can start now, Dani. I can take care of myself alone. Our top priority is this case, and we must not let Rosela get away with what she’s done so easily. The witness will need a lot of protection. Surely, the woman will try everything just to silence the poor girl."

"We’ll do everything we can, Milady," Dani hummed.

"I will need to see Rosela alone," Mineah added. "Find me an opening in my schedule to visit her as soon as possible."

"But milady, that can be very dangerous," Dani retorted. "Especially if Rosela has bad intentions..."

"Don’t worry, Dani. Rosela won’t be able to do anything against me," Mineah hummed. "I won’t be getting myself inside her prison cell any time soon. Just talking to her face to face will be enough for me..."

Either way, there was no other choice. She had to find out the truth about Dahlia no matter what.
