Chapter 126: Chapter 126: The Boss’s Identity is Questioned
Wu Yingfan looked at the incessant Lu Zhan with an expression that regarded him as a fool.
He rubbed his forehead, "Superstar Lu, Jiang Man is wildrose!"
"Hmm?" Lu Zhan raised an eyebrow, his lips curving upward, "That’s a good joke, pretty interesting. Here’s to a successful collaboration with wildrose?"
He stretched out his hand, wanting to shake hands with Jiang Man.
Jiang Man chuckled lightly, sparing with words, offering no explanation, and shook his hand briefly.
Wu Yingfan shook his head, raising his voice, "Damn, idiot! Who’s joking? Jiang Man really is wildrose. Jiang Man, maybe we shouldn’t sell the song to him? It’s exhausting talking to him."
"What about the spirit of the contract?" Jiang Man shot him a glance, walked over to the sofa, and sat down, crossing her legs elegantly, "Lu Zhan, I’m quite interested in your love song duet. As for female singers, I’m not very familiar with the domestic ones, but I know a few from abroad. What do you think about JOJO?"
Lu Zhan froze, his first reaction to the name JOJO was to be stunned.
JOJO is a Grammy, Billboard, Brit, and MTV Europe Music Award grand slam winner.
Debuted at 13, she had been famous in the music scene for ten years and, though only 23 now, she was already a household name.
Her status was on par with Taylor Swift and Avril, making her a top-tier global pop diva.
JOJO had sung many popular sweet songs, which stylistically matched well with "Tuber to You".
Yet...
How could someone at her level be approached?
Lu Zhan felt increasingly that the little auntie and her friends were unreliable, boasting any sort of nonsense.
Indeed, the little auntie was just 20 years old, and well, young people tend to love vanity, understandable.
"JOJO singing in Chinese is impossible, He Xiuyan, what do you think about her?" Lu Zhan didn’t outright reject the idea but diplomatically asked.
Upon hearing the name He Xiuyan, Jiang Man looked up, her eyebrows arched, tips sharp as blades, her stare chilling and intimidating.
Lu Zhan couldn’t help but feel uneasy, puzzled about what he might have said to offend her.
"He Xiuyan won’t work, it has to be JOJO," Jiang Man stated firmly, her tone allowing no room for argument.
Lu Zhan awkwardly tugged at the corner of his mouth, offering a placating smile, "Little auntie, I’d also like to invite JOJO, but as you know, though I’m popular in China, I’m simply not on her level."
The entertainment industry has strict seniority, especially between domestic and international stars, with a thick barrier in between.
"I didn’t ask you to invite her." Jiang Man let go of her intense gaze, folded her arms across her chest, and furrowed her brows in thought, "What do you think about letting JOJO sing in English and you in Chinese? The clash of different cultures might spark something novel."
"..." Lu Zhan didn’t respond, letting her continue with her daydreams.
"I’ll revise the lyrics when I get back, let’s settle on that," Jiang Man pondered for a moment and finally solidified her plan.
Lu Zhan tugged at the corner of his mouth, no longer wanting to indulge her fantasies, "Little auntie, I’m serious, let’s not make this into such a fuss."
Wu Yingfan rubbed his temples vehemently, too annoyed to speak.
Yet Jiang Man remained calm and composed, unaffected, "It’s alright, you just focus on the male part, Wu will handle the rest."
"The contract will need to be redrawn, wait for the news," Jiang Man said and then abruptly got up, hands shoved into her trouser pockets.
A vibe of a major boss, cool and defiant.
Wu Yingfan hurried to keep up with the departing Jiang Man, exclaiming, "Jiang Man, why deal with an idiot? Just because he’s your brother-in-law’s nephew doesn’t mean you should give him special treatment."
"I’m not giving any special treatment," Jiang Man said calmly. "The kid has an eye for talent; he was willing to spend 10 million to buy the song rights without knowing my main account. That proves his capability. Moreover, his idea of a male-female duet isn’t bad either."
"Alright, alright." Wu Yingfan was quite helpless, "But that kid doesn’t believe you’re wildrose, which is kind of ridiculous."
"It doesn’t matter." Jiang Man’s expression remained calm. "When the time comes, there’s no need to credit the song to wildrose; just use Jiang Man instead."
"Huh? What do you mean? I don’t get it?" Wu Yingfan blinked.
Jiang Man raised her hand and patted his head. "It’s about slapping Rolling Stone, Liu Pei, and He Xiuyan in the face, isn’t it? The song was rejected by them, right? Let Lu Zhan make it popular, and we don’t need to drag in anything else."
"Fine." Wu Yingfan agreed, nodding.
That Lu Zhan was really lucky, holding on to a big shot’s coattails without even knowing it.
With JOJO’s support, this guy would definitely become a higher-tier celebrity. Soon, he wouldn’t just be a popular young actor in the country but an international top-tier megastar!
...
Huayin Music was just across the street from Rolling Stone.
When Jiang Man and Wu Yingfan drove away, they reached an intersection where suddenly a flashy pink Maserati turned out.
Fortunately, Jiang Man reacted quickly, swerving the steering wheel to the left urgently.
The Maserati braked sharply, barely missing Jiang Man’s large G-Wagon by just a few centimeters.
"What’s the deal?" The vividly beautiful woman inside the car slapped the steering wheel, chewing her gum unhappily.
Seeing that Jiang Man had no intention of giving way, she forcefully honked the horn.
Beep beep beep—the honking infuriated Wu Yingfan in the Lamborghini who immediately got out of his car.
He strode over in three quick steps and tapped on the Maserati’s window.
The owner of the Maserati was none other than He Xiuyan!
Seeing it was just a serving dish type of situation, she presumed the G-Wagon was only worth one or two million, so she dared to honk the horn.
But the Lamborghini behind was worth over ten million, which made her hesitate for a moment before deciding not to offend.
Slowly rolling down the window, she smiled at Wu Yingfan, "Handsome, could you please let me turn left?"
"Let you? You almost hit my Man, come out and apologize to her," Wu Yingfan declared righteously.
He Xiuyan laughed upon hearing this, pulled down her large sunglasses perched on her high nose bridge, and looked down at him, "Do you know who I am? Want me to apologize to her? Is that possible?"
"I don’t care who you are!" Wu Yingfan was impatient and kicked the car, "Hurry up, or I’ll call the police."
"Are you sick? Call the police for what?"
"Running a red light, nearly hitting someone, isn’t that enough?" Wu Yingfan had no intentions of showing any mercy.
He Xiuyan frowned, immediately rolling up the window, and called her agent Liu Pei on the phone to quickly handle this big trouble.
Jiang Man had initially intended to give the other party some leeway, thinking it wasn’t really a big crash.
But when she spotted who the Maserati’s driver was from her rearview mirror, she immediately changed her mind.
Enemies on a narrow road—it was He Xiuyan!
Jiang Man hopped down from her G-Wagon, hands in her pockets, walked up briskly, and kicked the Maserati’s hood.
"Quite the coincidence, Xiuyan Ssibal?"
