Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Want to be my little aunt?
"So you’re giving this hand back to me?" Jiang Man got straight to the point.
Lu Xingzhou immediately understood what she meant and smiled, "It’s just a minor injury, nothing to fret about. Let’s go back."
Although he came for Jiang Man, he couldn’t treat his task as an instructor as child’s play.
"Alright, then let’s head back."
About fifteen minutes later, the two returned to the training camp.
Seeing Lu Xingzhou’s right hand wrapped in gauze, the students looked at one another, puzzled.
Teammates suggested he rest, but he said with a smile that it wasn’t necessary.
Shooting training soon continued. Jiang Man stood at attention, then at ease, leisurely watching Lu Xingzhou teach the students.
She quirked an eyebrow as if she’d noticed something.
When Lu Xingzhou had been teaching her earlier, hadn’t they been quite close?
Close enough that she could see his distinct eyelashes and feel the warmth of his body.
Yet now, from the perspective of an onlooker, she saw him keeping his distance, a good half meter from the students, sometimes even more.
Zhang Ziqi, with her keen observation, also noticed the difference.
She glanced curiously at the cool and tough girl beside her and whispered, "Manman, do you know that instructor?"
"Uh?" Jiang Man lifted an eyebrow, thought for a moment, "A relative of mine, an elder from the family."
"Wow!" Zhang Ziqi’s eyes widened in astonishment, "Manman, that’s amazing! You have a relative who’s a special forces soldier?"
Jiang Man pulled at the corner of her mouth but didn’t respond.
Zhang Ziqi didn’t mind and turned to tell Mao Lili the news.
The two girls whispered to each other.
After a while, Zhang Ziqi tilted her head with a beaming smile, "Your relative is really handsome! What’s your relation to him?"
"My uncle... I suppose?" Jiang Man paused, settling on that title.
"Wow!" Zhang Ziqi’s eyes sparkled with interest, "Then, Manman, can you give me your uncle’s contact?"
"Why? Want to be my auntie?" Jiang Man raised an eyebrow, the corner of her mouth curling up, her words teasing even as her eyes held a trace of coldness.
Zhang Ziqi felt intimidated and immediately laughed awkwardly, "No, no, let’s not."
Only then did Jiang Man withdraw her chilly smile, her gaze returning to Lu Xingzhou.
The morning’s shooting training continued until twelve noon.
The cafeteria was packed, and Jiang Man felt thirsty with little appetite.
She grabbed a bowl of shaved ice, a bowl of mixed-vegetable noodles, and a bottle of soda.
Holding her tray, she saw Zhang Ziqi, Mao Lili, and Wen Rui had already found a spot and sat down.
Jiang Man walked over and saw that Wen Rui had only taken a bowl of white rice and a serving of stir-fried bok choy, causing her to frown.
"Is that all you’re eating?"
"Uh, I don’t eat much..." Wen Rui said, masking her embarrassment.
Jiang Man reached into her pocket and handed her meal card over, "Go on, get yourself some meat dishes."
"No need..." Wen Rui’s face flushed red with embarrassment.
Jiang Man understood the girl’s sentiment, feeling ashamed of charity.
With an impatient edge to her brow, her voice left no room for argument, "I’m lending it to you. You can pay me back when you start working."
"Okay, then..." Wen Rui’s pride wasn’t hurt, and only then did she nod and head toward the food serving area.
Zhang Ziqi watched her walk away and couldn’t help saying, "She’s been pairing white rice with plain veggies these past days, Manman, we have some dishes we can share with her, but she insists on not having any."
"Yeah, right." Mao Lili quickly chimed in, proactively bringing out her own servings and placing them in the middle of the table.
She had a small bowl of braised pork, one of Kung Pao chicken, and a dish of cold seaweed salad.
Zhang Ziqi brought her own dishes to the center and glanced at Jiang Man, "Manman, why are you eating so little?"
"I’m not really hungry," Jiang Man grumbled as she took a sip of mineral water.
Her phone rang at that moment.
She placed the mineral water on the dining table and fished out her phone, only to realize she had set it to silent mode.
Phones weren’t allowed during military training, and even if you snuck one in, you had to keep it on silent.
She glanced at the caller ID and remembered she had made plans with Nan Juefeng today.
"Hello, Feng bro?"
"Hasn’t your military training ended? I saw a lot of people heading to the cafeteria; where are you right now?"
Hearing the noise on Jiang Man’s side, he added, "Are you in the cafeteria? Which one?"
"The second cafeteria," Jiang Man said blandly, "Sorry, I forgot about our dinner plans."
"No problem, I’ll come to you."
"That works."
After Jiang Man hung up the phone, Zhang Ziqi and Mao Lili both showed curious looks.
"Dinner," she said, sweeping a glance over the two girls.
As Wen Rui returned with a fresh plate of food, a commotion suddenly erupted at the entrance of the cafeteria.
Zhang Ziqi loved a good fuss and craned her neck to see, "What’s going on outside? Feels like some big celebrity is coming."
Mao Lili, looking at her phone, suddenly exclaimed, "The school forum says the CEO of Nan Corporation is visiting our school today for a success seminar!"
"Seriously?" Zhang Ziqi lost interest in her food, putting down her chopsticks, "Then I’ve got to check it out!"
The CEO of Nan Corporation was one of the top eligible bachelors in North City!
"There she goes again," Mao Lili said, unsurprised.
Although she hadn’t known Zhang Ziqi for long, her roommate’s tendencies to fawn over every male and flirt were well-known to them all.
To be precise, to flirt with any man she saw.
"The CEO of Nan Corporation, that’s someone at the top of the pyramid, surrounded by bodyguards. Qiqi won’t even get to touch a hair on his head."
"What? We’ve got such an important visitor at our school? Inviting a business mogul to an arts school? That sounds pretty incongruous," Wen Rui commented, as he placed the meat dishes on the table and shared the food he had brought with everyone.
"Don’t know much about it, they said it was decided at the last minute. He usually speaks at Peking or Tsinghua University, it’s his first time at our Northern Conservatory," Mao Lili said.
"I... I also want to go see," Wen Rui bit his lip and looked up at Jiang Man.
Jiang Man gave her a sideways glance, "Then go."
What’s the deal?
The girl seemed quite afraid of her. Why did she need her permission to go somewhere?
"I’m going too!"
Seeing that Wen Rui was joining the crowd, Mao Lili couldn’t sit still either.
Suddenly, Jiang Man was left alone at her table, facing more than a dozen small bowls of food.
The entrance to the cafeteria was packed, with female students making up ninety percent of the crowd, the remaining ten percent being boyfriends who had accompanied them.
Over twenty bodyguards stood in two rows, shielding a man in a suit and leather shoes as he walked inside.
Surrounding him were the gasps of female students and the flashing of many cameras going ’click-click.’
Besides the bodyguards, university officials accompanied him, inviting him to dine in a private room on the second floor as they entered the cafeteria.
Nan Juefeng hesitated as he was about to go upstairs, glancing back at the cafeteria hall.
It was crowded with students; he couldn’t spot Jiang Man at first glance.
He stood still, stubbornly searching.
Finally, his gaze landed on a lone, cold figure.
Though everyone was in camouflage, he recognized her at once—it was his Manman...
