Chapter 50: Shopping With Mother In Law

She wanted to turn around and run again, but this cart was hard to maneuver.

There were quite a few people nearby. She forced a distant, somewhat distorted smile.

Cheng Anya found her increasingly endearing. "Feimo really likes kiwi fruit. Aren’t you going to buy some?"

She looked at Wen Nuan’s cart, which was truly impressive. Could such a small girl carry so much? Back when she was a young woman, Young Master Ye was always the one carrying things. When had he ever let her carry anything?

Wen Nuan oh-ed and reached for a bag to pick out kiwi fruit, then suddenly paused. Wasn’t this a self-admission? She had been thinking that if Cheng Anya asked if she was living with Ye Feimo, she would vehemently deny it. But one sentence from Cheng Anya had already exposed her.

Wen Nuan teared up even more.

Cheng Anya chuckled softly. Wen Nuan gave a ninety-degree bow and politely greeted, "Hello, Madam Ye."

"So well-behaved. And so polite," Cheng Anya said, amused. "I was originally planning to buy some groceries for Feimo, but it seems unnecessary now."

Wen Nuan had a whole shopping cart full of groceries, making Cheng Anya think she was planning a feast.

Wen Nuan didn’t know how to answer. She scratched her head and finally said honestly, "I’ve been quite busy lately, and he doesn’t go out to buy things, so I bought a lot at once. Hehe..."

She gave a silly laugh. She did seem to have bought quite a lot.

"Pick out some more fruit," Cheng Anya suggested. Wen Nuan nodded. "Does he really love kiwi fruit?"

"He eats everything except apples."

"So picky. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, yet he doesn’t eat apples?" Wen Nuan complained.

Cheng Anya’s sharp eyes spotted the carrots, onions, and green peppers. She smiled and said, "He also doesn’t eat onions, carrots, or green peppers."

Wen Nuan blurted out, "I did it on purpose."

Cheng Anya was taken aback. Wen Nuan’s face flushed crimson. How did that sound like she was proudly exclaiming in front of his mother, "I’m torturing your son, come and beat me, come and beat me"? Wen Nuan was mortified.

Cheng Anya laughed heartily, while Wen Nuan felt a bit more reserved. A thought then struck her, and she said, "Madam Ye, how about you pick? I don’t even know what he likes to eat."

"Alright!" Cheng Anya responded cheerfully.

As Cheng Anya selected kiwi fruit, she watched Wen Nuan carefully choosing other items nearby, and couldn’t help but give her a high score in her mind. Feimo’s taste this time wasn’t bad at all.

"Miss Wen, where do you study?" Cheng Anya asked with a smile.

"I’m in the performing arts department at A University. Madam Ye, please just call me Wen Nuan," Wen Nuan replied with a smile. Being addressed as "Miss Wen" by someone so powerful and influential in the entertainment industry felt a little strange.

"Performing arts?" Cheng Anya’s brow furrowed slightly, her smile fading a touch. She couldn’t help but look at Wen Nuan more closely. She placed a few kiwi fruit into Wen Nuan’s bag and casually asked, "Are you signed with Anning?"

"Yes, I am," Wen Nuan answered innocently, oblivious to Cheng Anya’s change in mood. Cheng Anya simply nodded, her smile completely gone.

Wen Nuan didn’t notice Cheng Anya’s displeasure. Tilting her head in thought, she asked, "Madam Ye, Ye Feimo’s stomach isn’t very good. What kind of food should I usually make for him?"

Cheng Anya was taken aback, looking at her intently. "You..."

Wen Nuan assumed that someone of Cheng Anya’s status wouldn’t know about household matters and that she had asked the wrong person. She smiled apologetically. "Oh, you don’t know either? Actually, I don’t really know either. I only know how to cook some simple home-style dishes. His taste is quite strong. Do you think it’s better to eat lighter food if his stomach isn’t good?"

"Yes, it is," Cheng Anya replied with a smile, glancing at the food in the cart. It was all Ye Feimo’s favorites. Cheng Anya thought that perhaps Wen Nuan was different from Han Bi. But having been in the entertainment industry for ten years, she had seen many artists who didn’t cherish themselves in their climb to the top, and she held some prejudice against artists.

This girl seemed nice enough. At least her judgment of people was usually pretty good.

It was just a pity that she had misjudged Han Bi a few years ago. She hoped Wen Nuan was different from Han Bi, otherwise... Cheng Anya’s thoughts turned cold. She wouldn’t allow anyone to hurt her son again.

No one!

"Do you usually do the cooking?"

"Of course! Ye Feimo is so difficult to please."

Wen Nuan mumbled. Cheng Anya chuckled. Indeed, he was quite difficult. She teased, "You must have it tough, Miss Wen."

Wen Nuan gave an embarrassed smile. "It’s okay, it’s okay..."

Despite saying it was okay, Wen Nuan couldn’t help but complain about Ye Feimo a bit. Cheng Anya smiled and joined in, complaining about her own son. Wen Nuan felt that Madam Ye wasn’t so unapproachable after all, actually joining her in saying bad things about Feimo.

"Is there anything else you need to buy?"

"No, that’s everything." Wen Nuan looked at her full cart, then suddenly remembered the lunch boxes. "Oh right, the lunch boxes!"

The two women, one tall and one small, went to choose lunch boxes. Wen Nuan looked at several but wasn’t satisfied with any of them. Cheng Anya, thinking she was packing lunch for herself, suggested a few. Wen Nuan shook her head. "These can’t hold soup. Ye Feimo said he likes to drink soup."

"Buying for Feimo? Is he taking lunch?" Cheng Anya asked, raising her eyebrows in surprise.

"No, he said he didn’t eat much lunch today. He usually orders takeout. Doesn’t he have a bad stomach? It’s not good to always eat greasy takeout. Anyway, my cooking isn’t bad. I’ll make it for him to take to the company in the morning," Wen Nuan said with a smile.

Cheng Anya smiled. This girl had a truly kind heart, so lovely and pure. Ye Feimo’s stomach problems were quite serious. She had long ago instructed Zhang Ling to pay attention to his three meals, and she had even set the menu. Zhang Ling just needed to follow it.

However, home-cooked food was indeed different from takeout. Wen Nuan’s idea was right. Having heard Wen Nuan mention Feimo’s stomach problems from the beginning until now, Cheng Anya thought that if Han Bi had also cared for Feimo like this back then, perhaps even if she had made a small mistake, she wouldn’t have been so ruthless.

Finally, Wen Nuan chose a thermal lunch box that could hold rice, dishes, and soup. Then she selected a more ordinary bento box.

She asked for Cheng Anya’s opinion. Cheng Anya nodded, and Wen Nuan smiled, placing them in the cart.

"Madam Ye, are you here to see Ye Feimo?" Wen Nuan asked as they headed to the checkout.

Cheng Anya nodded. She was going to see Feimo, but looking at things now, she could worry about him a little less in the future.

"Are you and Feimo together?" Cheng Anya asked.

Wen Nuan was taken aback. This question made her very awkward. She didn’t know how to explain the strange relationship between her and Ye Feimo, especially since the person asking was Cheng Anya. She was even more unsure of what to say.

She and Ye Feimo had a contractual relationship, right?

But he hadn’t forced her. Yet, they weren’t exactly lovers either. Saying it was a contractual relationship felt like it lacked the entanglement they had. So, Wen Nuan didn’t know how to answer.

Seeing her difficulty, Cheng Anya understood in her heart and didn’t press the issue.

Perhaps it was because of becoming popular that she was with Feimo, or perhaps it was for some other reason. It was likely one of these two. But no matter what, as long as she was good to Feimo, genuinely cared for him, and truly loved him, she wouldn’t mind.

What their initial motives for being together were didn’t matter.

Even if she was really after Feimo’s money and status, what did it matter? If Feimo liked Wen Nuan, it was his business. As a parent, she wouldn’t object. Cheng Anya understood better than anyone that it wasn’t easy for her son to love again.

If Wen Nuan was his salvation, perhaps she could be more accepting.

At least for now, this girl seemed to care about Feimo a lot, even if she didn’t approve of Wen Nuan’s identity.

"I was just asking casually. You don’t have to answer," Cheng Anya said with a smile.
