Tears slid down from Ye Wanwan’s eyes. She raised her hand to wipe them away with the back of her hand and then walked towards the emergency exit.

It was quiet in the emergency exit, but it was also cold. Ye Wanwan looked around, sat down on the steps, and then called Shen Yi.

While waiting for the call to connect, Ye Wanwan took deep breaths, trying to calm her emotions, hoping to be more composed when she spoke to Shen Yi.

It took a while for the call to be answered, and then Shen Yi’s low and gentle voice came through the phone, "Have you eaten?"

"Not yet." Ye Wanwan replied.

Shen Yi continued, "The hotel today..."

"Shen Yi." Ye Wanwan interrupted him.

The line went quiet for a moment, followed by Shen Yi’s voice, now slightly anxious, "Wanwan, what’s wrong?"

Initially, Shen Yi hadn’t noticed anything amiss with Ye Wanwan, but she had suddenly cut him off, and her voice seemed to carry a sob when she called his name.

Ye Wanwan pursed her lips, struggling to maintain her composure as she didn’t want to be like this, but she was truly scared.
