Chapter 507: Chapter 506: One Year Later (Starting Daily Life of Raising a Child)

He Qingyun never saw Ren Yushi again after that, receiving only a postcard of Mount Jizu in prison, tears falling onto the card.

Until the day she died, He Qingyun had no sentimentality for this world, only endless words.

But now she had someone she cared for.

Having lived once more, He Qingyun believed that there really was something to the idea of gods and Buddhas.

In the moment before her death, He Qingyun was still thinking that she would tell the Buddha she had taken on all of Ren Yushi’s sins; from then on, Ren Yushi should be healthy, should be happy.

He Qingyun did not know that on the day she died, Ren Yushi had taken a whole bottle of sleeping pills in the home they once shared.

Before he met He Qingyun, he always felt life was meaningless, aware of his psychological issues, which is why he chose psychology.

Perhaps it was true that doctors can’t heal themselves; he still found life meaningless.

Not until he met He Qingyun did he, for the first time, feel a real desire to live.

But his Ayun was gone, leaving him alone.

Ren Yushi was never a strong person; he couldn’t live without Ayun, so he decided to go find her.

Ayun, you didn’t keep your promise, and neither did I.

So we’re even now, please don’t be mad, okay?

Looking through the window, Ren Yushi saw the heavy snow outside; a faint smile formed on his lips. Ayun would definitely be mad, but it didn’t matter; he would just have to coax her.

...One year later...

After the New Year, Shen Yi went back to work at the company. Even though Shen Yi had delegated authority and Assistant Chen could make most decisions, there was still much that required Shen Yi’s direct involvement.

Close to the end of the workday, Shen Yi pressed the intercom, asking someone to go downstairs to the coffee shop and pack him a milk tea and cake.

By the time Shen Yi finished his last task at hand, it was exactly six o’clock. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he took off his glasses and set them aside as there was a knock on his office door.

"Come in." Shen Yi said, standing up and reaching for the coat that was draped over the back of his chair.

"Director Shen, your milk tea and cake." A secretary placed the bag on the office desk.

"Thank you." Shen Yi had no recollection of this secretary, likely a new recruit, but he thanked her politely nonetheless.

Once he was dressed and had taken the bag, ready to leave, and noticed the secretary hadn’t left, Shen Yi’s brow furrowed slightly, "Is there something else?"

The secretary shook her head repeatedly, a touch of panic in her voice, "No, no problem."

"If there’s nothing else, please leave." Shen Yi said coldly.

"Sorry, I’ll leave right away." The secretary bowed and stepped back a few paces before quickly exiting the office.

Shen Yi didn’t linger in the office either; he took his things and left straight away.

During the evening rush hour, regardless of traffic, the journey was never swift.

It was seven o’clock by the time Shen Yi got home. As he entered, he saw Zhouzhou sitting on the play mat in the living room, holding Taozhi in her arms and combing its fur with a pet brush.

"Zhouzhou," Shen Yi called softly.

Zhouzhou heard the voice, looked back, but only glanced for a moment before returning to her grooming of Taozhi, as if she had seen someone unimportant.

Shen Yi changed his shoes, hung up his coat, and then went to wash his hands in the restroom.
