Chapter 444: Chapter 443: Just Chatting
The aunt-in-law smiled, "That’s true, after all, it is the first baby, whether it’s a boy or a girl, they’re our precious child."
Those were the words spoken, but the underlying implication was clear: Ye Wanwan’s current pregnancy had better produce a son, or else she’d have to keep having more children until they had one.
Ye Wanwan naturally knew that Zhouzhou was a boy, but she still couldn’t bear to hear such words; it wasn’t just her being belittled, but her child as well.
Ye Wanwan smiled, adopting an obedient demeanor, and was just about to speak when a familiar voice suddenly rang out.
"Yes, male or female, they’re the treasure of our family. After all, we only plan to have this one baby, so we must cherish them well."
When everyone heard these words, they subconsciously looked up and were surprised when they saw Shen Yi entering from outside.
After realizing what Shen Yi had said, surprise flashed in their eyes, as if they couldn’t believe what they had just heard.
The aunt-in-law was equally astonished at these words.
Shen Yi, ignoring the few people seated on the couch, walked straight towards Ye Wanwan and sat down beside her.
"Eat less of this; it can cause heatiness," Shen Yi said softly.
Ye Wanwan nodded in agreement.
The atmosphere in the living room had already been somewhat awkward, and Lin Xu’s comment had managed to draw it back, but now it became awkward again.
The aunt-in-law managed a strained smile while sitting there and finally could only laugh and say, "We were just chatting casually."
She had brought it up today because her husband had tried to ask Shen Yi for help several times without success, which left her feeling disgruntled, so she had intentionally looked for an excuse to cause trouble.
She had only wanted to make Ye Wanwan uncomfortable, never expecting Shen Yi to actually come back and, moreover, to hear exactly what was said.
Shen Yi looked up coldly and said, "Some words are not to be spoken casually."
The aunt-in-law was incredibly embarrassed, at a loss for words, her face turning shades of red and white, but she couldn’t say anything, ending up with just an awkward smile.
Because of this little episode, the guests didn’t stay long. Lin Xu went to the kitchen to check on the chicken soup that was simmering, leaving only Shen Yi and Ye Wanwan in the living room.
Shen Yi patted Ye Wanwan’s head and said softly, "Don’t listen to their nonsense."
Shen Yi spoke seriously, as if he was genuinely worried Ye Wanwan would take those words to heart and feel uncomfortable.
Ye Wanwan couldn’t help but laugh, "Why would I listen to their nonsense? Our Zhouzhou is indeed a boy."
Shen Yi continued, "I’m not saying this just because Zhouzhou is a boy; I’ve always thought this way."
No matter whether it was now or before he regained his memory, that was what he believed; he had even hoped for a daughter more.
Yet after regaining his memory, Shen Yi felt a twinge of guilt about Zhouzhou. He regretted having forgotten about Zhouzhou and even wishing he could turn into a girl.
"Yeah!" Ye Wanwan nodded vigorously, "I know, you’ve never been the kind of person to favor boys over girls!"
Shen Yi stroked Ye Wanwan’s hair, smiling tenderly.
...
Mid-month, Shen Yi went on a business trip to D Country, and since Ye Wanwan couldn’t adjust to Shen Yi’s time difference, their opportunities to chat became scarce.
Fortunately, Shen Yi made it back before New Year’s Eve, otherwise Ye Wanwan really would have cried to Shen Yi.
This year, the New Year’s Eve dinner was still celebrated together with both families. Everyone was delighted, both for them and for the new life about to be born.
