Chapter 250: Chapter 250: Who Am I Here to Commemorate?
Shen Yi was busy making sure all his work was handled and had arranged everything else.
By six in the afternoon, Shen Yi had signed the last contract and, closing it, handed it over to Assistant Chen, "You’ve worked hard during this period."
"Not at all, President Shen can rest assured," Assistant Chen said respectfully.
Shen Yi glanced at his wristwatch, "It’s about time, I need to head to the airport."
"Okay," Assistant Chen, holding the documents, left the office.
Before long, Shen Yi came out of the office. Assistant Chen personally drove Shen Yi back to his apartment, where Shen Yi picked up his luggage and then went straight to the airport.
On the way, Shen Yi glanced at his phone and sent a message to Ye Wanwan, telling her the time he would land in the country.
Ye Wanwan didn’t reply on the other end, but Shen Yi didn’t mind. It was already the middle of the night in China, and Wanwan must have gone to sleep.
At nine in the evening, Shen Yi finally boarded the plane heading home.
*
Shen Yi abruptly opened his eyes, terror still not yet faded from their depths.
What had he just seen?
What had he just seen in his dream?
A tombstone?
Had he just seen Ye Wanwan’s tombstone in his dream!
Shen Yi’s eyes were full of horror; why would he dream such a thing?
It was terrifying!
In the dream, he watched himself from a third-person perspective, dressed in a black suit, holding a bunch of white bellflowers, and carrying a black umbrella that didn’t serve much purpose, taking steps towards Xishan Cemetery.
The cemetery was the Shen family’s private graveyard, chosen especially when the Shen family repositioned their graves.
Having been there countless times since childhood, he recognized at a glance that it was Xishan Cemetery.
However, the "himself" he saw now seemed older than he was, appearing middle-aged, even slightly beyond that.
So Shen Yi began to doubt whether the person he was looking at was "himself."
Full of confusion, Shen Yi could only watch from the third-person view.
At first, he did not know why "he" was going to Xishan Cemetery, only that the person he saw seemed too detached, as if there was nothing left in the world that could warm his heart or soul.
Shen Yi watched him take each step up the stairs, so heavy, and for some reason, Shen Yi’s own heart couldn’t help but feel the weight.
Shen Yi wondered who he was there to pay respects to.
The rain was too heavy, and the umbrella in "his" hand was practically just for show. Shen Yi didn’t understand why one must make it there on such a day.
Perhaps it was someone very important to "him," otherwise he would not have made it there in such a torrential downpour.
Shen Yi followed "himself," all the way up to a tombstone halfway up the hill where he stopped. He was quite a distance from "himself," and "his" body blocked his view, so he couldn’t see whose tombstone it was.
Shen Yi saw "himself" squat down, place the bunch of flowers in front of the tombstone, and then prop the umbrella over it.
The tombstone was no longer being wetted by the rain, while "himself" was completely soaked on the back. It made no difference, really; "he" had been wet from the start of the ascent.
Shen Yi wanted to go closer to see, when he suddenly heard "himself" speak.
"Wanwan, I’m here to accompany you, don’t be afraid," the man’s voice was filled with indescribable tenderness.
