Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Wanwan, Why Didn’t You Save Me?

Ye Wanwan almost subconsciously threw her phone away, violently sitting up in bed.

But the movement was so abrupt that Ye Wanwan felt momentarily dizzy as if she was about to collapse, so she could only frown and lean against the headboard to recover.

However, at this moment, the sounds from the phone continued, even though she had already thrown it aside, and she hadn’t turned on the speakerphone.

In the silent darkness, the terrifying wails persisted, piercing through the phone into Ye Wanwan’s ears.

The sound of the whip grew more frenzied, and the man’s screams louder, endlessly crying, "Help! Help me!"

Perhaps he was beaten too harshly, the man began to cry and plead while being whipped, "Please let me go! I know I was wrong, please let me go!"

With a "snap," the whip struck the man again, his cries and pleas only resulting in more vicious beatings.

The man was in so much pain that he could no longer cry out, just moan in agony.

Suddenly, laughter came from the phone—it was a woman’s laugh!

The woman seemed to be using a voice changer, making the laughter sound eerie and terrifying, as if she derived pleasure from the man’s suffering, laughing with delight!

But to Ye Wanwan’s ears, it was chilling to the bone!

Ye Wanwan, struggling against the dizziness in her head, abruptly opened her eyes, and her mind buzzed even more loudly.

But Ye Wanwan’s rationality remained intact; although terrified to the point her heart nearly leaped out of her chest, she was clear-headed enough to realize that someone must be trying to scare her.

Clenching her teeth, Ye Wanwan reached out to turn on the bedroom light, and the sudden brightness made her involuntarily squint.

She took a deep breath, squinted her eyes, and looked around the bed, locating the phone she had thrown away in panic.

Ye Wanwan glanced at the incoming call display, which was a string of odd numbers, presumably not from any legitimate channel.

The laughter of the woman and the sound of the whip in the phone continued unceasingly, and the man kept on wailing in pain.

Enduring the discomfort, Ye Wanwan opened the recording and then brought the phone to her ear.

"Who are you?" Ye Wanwan asked as calmly as possible, her voice firm.

The laughter from the phone suddenly halted, leaving only the man’s wails.

Ye Wanwan swallowed hard, her grip tightening on the phone involuntarily, but she still did not move it away and asked in a firm voice again, "Who are you? What do you want to do?"

"Guess who I am?" the woman said in a coquettish tone, followed by laughter that carried a teasing tone.

Indeed, Ye Wanwan had a guess deep down—it was He Qingyun!

But for some reason, she felt it was not quite like her.

Ye Wanwan remained silent, and so did the person on the other end of the line. The man’s wailing also weakened until it seemed like everything was returning to calmness.

Ye Wanwan thought the other party would no longer speak, but suddenly she heard the woman in the phone speak in a grievous and melodious voice, "Wanwan, why won’t you save me?"

In an instant, Ye Wanwan’s eyes widened, her face filled with disbelief.

Her breathing became rapid, her fingers tightly gripping the phone. There was a moment when she felt her heartbeat might stop!
