Chapter 223: Chapter 223 Like a Heartbreaker
Ye Wanwan had been accompanying Shen Yi in D Country for four days, and on the fifth day, it was time for her to return to their home country with her parents.
On the day of the return, Shen Yi went to the airport to see Ye Wanwan off. Although he was trying hard to hide it, his unusually quiet and reticent demeanor made it apparent that he was in a poor mood.
Seeing Shen Yi looking as if he had been abandoned by her, Wanwan couldn’t help but comfort him, "How about I come to visit you during the May Day holiday?"
"Think about it, it’s only a little over two months away until May Day. By that calculation, it seems to come around pretty quickly," Wanwan added.
Shen Yi just silently looked at Ye Wanwan. He would, of course, be delighted if she could come for May Day, but clearly, he was not satisfied with just that.
He wanted to drop everything and go back with Ye Wanwan without a second thought, as nothing seemed particularly important to him right now. He only wanted Ye Wanwan.
It wasn’t until the boarding announcement came over the loudspeaker that Su Xiangyi, who was sitting on the other side, came over to remind them, "We need to go."
"Okay, Mom," Wanwan replied, as she stood up.
Shen Yi also stood up and then turned to Su Xiangyi with a serious expression, "Mom, since I won’t be in the country, I’m entrusting Wanwan to your extra care."
With a smile, Su Xiangyi said, "She’s my daughter, how could I not take good care of her?"
"Alright, alright, it’s really time to go now," Su Xiangyi remarked, witnessing the couple’s affection and especially Shen Yi’s reluctant look, she felt extremely moved.
She used to think of Shen Yi as humble and orderly, who, no matter who he faced, always maintained a sense of cool detachment. She never expected him to show such tenderness in Wanwan’s presence.
But this was good. Wanwan had met someone who truly cared for her, and Su Xiangyi was happy for her daughter.
Shen Yi accompanied Ye Wanwan all the way to the boarding gate, holding her hand and finally, he cautioned, "Take good care of yourself."
"Mm-hmm," Wanwan nodded eagerly.
Then, glancing around and seizing a moment when no one was paying attention, she tiptoed up to Shen Yi and quickly pressed a kiss to the edge of his lips.
"You take good care of yourself," Wanwan said softly.
Seeing that Shen Yi was about to reach out to hug her again, Wanwan truly worried that if this dragging on continued, she couldn’t bring herself to leave.
So, Wanwan quickly took a step back, causing Shen Yi’s attempted embrace to miss its mark.
"I’m off, goodbye," Wanwan said, waving vigorously to Shen Yi.
With a tight throat and a hoarse voice, Shen Yi said, "Goodbye."
As he watched their group enter the boarding gate and Wanwan’s silhouette gradually disappear, Shen Yi let out a slight sigh of helplessness.
Shen Yi returned to the office that afternoon, and it was clear to anyone with eyes that President Shen was in a bad mood.
Someone whispered in hushed gossip, "What’s up with President Shen today? Wasn’t he in a good mood these past few days?"
A colleague, with an all-knowing look, responded, "President Shen was in an especially good mood these past few days because of Mrs. Shen. Now that Mrs. Shen has left, naturally, he would be in a bad mood."
"Mrs. Shen left?"
"Yeah, didn’t you notice President Shen didn’t come in this morning? He went to send her off."
"Then I better not go and provoke him today. Let Assistant Chen handle anything that comes up."
Upon hearing this, Assistant Chen, who was passing by, paused and turned to glance at the two who had just been speaking.
