Chapter 19: Chapter 19 Work
Shen Yi saw she had stopped crying and continued to soothe her patiently, "It’s okay now."
"Mhm," Ye Wanwan mumbled in response.
Then the two of them sat in silence for a while, Shen Yi getting ready to stand up and go to the bathroom to fetch a wet towel to wipe Wanwan’s face.
It was at that moment Ye Wanwan looked up at Shen Yi and suddenly said, "Shen Yi, I want to start working."
Just as he was about to rise, Shen Yi paused and sat down again. He didn’t respond immediately, as if carefully pondering something. After several seconds, he asked, "You’ve been preoccupied lately. Is there something going on?"
Shen Yi believed he understood Ye Wanwan fairly well. Ever since the last incident when she had fallen into the pool, he had sensed that something was not quite right. He had also noticed that Wanwan seemed to be avoiding him.
But he had no idea what was causing all of this.
He had wanted to ask yesterday, but he was too sleepy and accidentally drifted off, never finding the chance.
Today, he had also carefully reflected and the only recent event was Wanwan’s attendance at a birthday party.
Shen Yi thought he made her feel awkward because he knew she had gone to the party.
After all, she had gone to the party probably looking for trouble.
The woman who came out of nowhere, he didn’t even know her name, yet she insisted on linking herself with him.
He, as a married man, did not manage his personal relationships well— that was his fault, but the woman’s attempt at throwing herself at him was also problematic.
And it was quite normal for Ye Wanwan, his wife, to feel uncomfortable about it.
He didn’t think Wanwan’s behavior that day was excessive; on the contrary, it prompted an investigation into who had pushed his wife at the party.
Yet, it wasn’t until now that he realized Wanwan’s unease might have nothing to do with that woman at all, and that something else must have happened.
The person who pushed Wanwan still hadn’t been found...
Ye Wanwan shook her head, sniffing and speaking with a muffled voice, "No, it’s just too boring staying at home. I want to find something to do for myself."
Ye Wanwan herself was not a career-oriented person. After all, in her previous life, she never worked a moment, just like the majority of girls from wealthy families.
Attend school when it was time for schooling, marry when it was time to marry, have children when it was time for children, and then live as a leisurely, affluent housewife.
Now, living her life a second time, she was too afraid of repeating the tragedies of her past life, so she knew she had to make a change.
Back in her past life, when she later saw a psychologist, the doctor had suggested that she engage in things she found interesting, whether work or leisure, as long as it could divert some of her focus away from Shen Yi.
But by then, she had become extremely obsessed, directing all her attention to every move Shen Yi made.
Shen Yi frowned slightly. Although society had long embraced gender equality, he, like Wanwan, grew up in the same wealthy family and received the same education; subconsciously, he too believed that his wife should be a full-time housewife.
Suddenly hearing Ye Wanwan express a desire to work, Shen Yi truly did not know how to respond.
In the midst of this strange silence, Ye Wanwan seemed to have understood Shen Yi’s thoughts. She lowered her gaze, concealing her emotions.
