Chapter 144: Chapter 144: Wanwan is clearly fine
Afterward, the doctor and the housekeeper stepped outside, leaving only Ye Wanwan in the room to accompany Shen Yi.
Initially, Shen Yi would murmur softly, and every word he uttered was calling out for Wanwan.
Later, perhaps due to the medication, Shen Yi slept very deeply, even the hand that had been gripping Ye Wanwan’s began to loosen gradually due to lack of strength.
Ye Wanwan, however, was looking at Shen Yi the whole time, thinking about how he had previously clung to her, refusing to let go and the words he had said to her.
What on earth was going on?
Why did Shen Yi suddenly possess memories of his past life?
Had he, like her, been reborn, or was there another reason?
But no matter what the reason was, she couldn’t imagine how she and Shen Yi were supposed to get along after he regained his memory.
Ye Wanwan was very puzzled.
In between, the doctor came in to change Shen Yi’s IV twice, and by the time all the IV fluids were administered, it was already beginning to get light outside.
The doctor took Shen Yi’s temperature again, which had decreased to a normal state.
Ye Wanwan let out a sigh of relief and then couldn’t help feeling tired. Although her mind was still clear, the lack of sleep was giving her a headache.
Ensuring that Shen Yi’s fever had subsided and after the doctor left, Ye Wanwan went to the bathroom to take a shower before returning to bed and lying down.
*
Perhaps because she was troubled, Ye Wanwan was very sleepy yet had trouble sleeping well, waking up twice in just a couple of hours.
Each time she woke up, she would frown and endure the headache while checking Shen Yi’s forehead temperature to make sure he wasn’t running a fever again, then lay back down to try and sleep.
When she woke up for the third time, Ye Wanwan glanced at her phone, noting it wasn’t even nine o’clock yet.
She then checked her WeChat messages; she had messaged Tang Xiaorou before she went to sleep to ask for leave. Tang Xiaorou had approved the leave, telling her to take good care of Shen Yi at home and to be careful herself not to catch a cold.
Ye Wanwan didn’t reply and put down her phone; she gingerly got up and went to the restroom.
When Ye Wanwan came out of the restroom, she saw Shen Yi getting down from the bed, but as soon as he stood up, his legs gave way, and he fell onto his knees on the floor.
His knees hit the ground hard with a "bang," a sound that made Ye Wanwan’s heart skip a beat.
"Shen Yi!" Ye Wanwan exclaimed in alarm, quickly running over and crouching down to check on him.
Upon hearing her voice, Shen Yi instinctively looked up at Ye Wanwan, confusion filling his eyes as he called out in a daze, "Wanwan?"
"Are you okay? Is your knee hurt?" Ye Wanwan wanted to check his knee, but she couldn’t because he was kneeling on the floor.
Ye Wanwan could only help Shen Yi get up and sit him down on the bed’s edge. "Why are you moving around like that? Don’t you know that you have a fever?" she scolded.
Shen Yi’s eyes were still filled with confusion as he looked at Ye Wanwan, his brow furrowed slightly, with a face full of worry.
Shen Yi couldn’t explain why, in the instant that he had woken up, his subconscious had thought that Ye Wanwan was already dead.
Wanwan is clearly alive and well, so why would he harbor such a terrifying thought?
"How are you? Does it hurt a lot?" Ye Wanwan asked worriedly. The sound of his knee hitting the ground had been so loud, it must have been injured.
Shen Yi didn’t speak and just stared blankly at the very much alive Ye Wanwan in front of him.
Without waiting for Shen Yi to say anything, Ye Wanwan squatted down and rolled up his pant leg to check his knee.
